Turkish firefighters battle flames overnight in Antalya wildfire

Firefighters battled overnight to contain a wildfire in Turkey's southern Antalya province on Tuesday (September 8). The wildfire broke out late on Monday (September 7), with teams tackling the flames from the air with helicopters, as well as from the ground. As a precaution, 254 homes in the region were evacuated, state-owned Anadolu Agency said.

Global warming is giving the Mediterranean region hotter, drier summers, scientists say, with wildfires surging each year. Although heatwaves and wildfires are common in the region, their impact on human life along with the scale of destruction have become more pronounced in recent years due to shifting weather patterns.
