00:15U.S. fighter jets have reportedly been damaged in an Iranian strike on a key U.S. airbase in Jordan,
00:23and one of America's most recognizable attack aircraft was reportedly hit so hard that it
00:30lost a wing. Here's what we know. Multiple U.S. military aircraft were reportedly damaged
00:37when Iranian forces targeted Jordan's Muwafik Salty Air Base overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday.
00:45According to sources familiar with the matter, cited by CBS News, roughly eight F-15 fighter jets
00:53suffered light damage. But there is an important detail here. The sources reportedly said those
00:59F-15s were later returned to service. So while the aircraft were damaged, the available reporting
01:06does not indicate that all of them were destroyed or permanently taken out of action. But another
01:12American aircraft appears to have suffered far more serious damage. An A-10 Thunderbolt, better known as
01:20the Warthog, was reportedly struck during the attack. And according to the sources, the aircraft was
01:26left missing a wing. No American deaths were reported in the strike. So why is this attack significant?
01:34Muwafik Salty Air Base is an important location for U.S. military operations in the region. And an Iranian
01:41strike reaching a U.S. airbase in Jordan highlights just how far the current confrontation
01:48has expanded beyond Iran's immediate borders. The attack also appears to be part of a much wider
01:54cycle of retaliation. CENTCOM said U.S. forces had destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers
02:02on September 8th. That came after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly launched ballistic
02:09missile attacks against a U.S. Navy warship. CENTCOM said the American warship successfully evaded those
02:16attacks and that no U.S. personnel were harmed. Iran then announced its own retaliatory operations.
02:24The IRGC claimed it had launched attacks against eight oil tankers and two warships while also
02:31targeting the U.S. base in Jordan. And there is another major development. Iran says it has expanded
02:38a newly declared no-go zone beyond the Strategic Strait of Hormuz. That is significant because the Strait
02:45of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy choke points. Iranian media also reported
02:52that the IRGC had attacked U.S. vessels, oil tankers, and other vessels it described as non-compliant.
03:00So this is no longer simply an exchange of strikes between two militaries. The confrontation is
03:07increasingly involving air bases, warships, oil tankers, and critical energy routes. And that creates
03:14a much wider risk for the region. U.S. President Donald Trump has meanwhile claimed the war with Iran
03:21will end immediately after the U.S. midterm elections in November, arguing that Tehran cannot hold out much
03:28longer. But on the ground, the fighting is still escalating. And with American aircraft reportedly
03:35damaged at a base in Jordan, Iran's latest strike sends a clear warning that U.S. forces across the
03:42region remain within Tehran's reach. The key question now is, will this latest round of retaliation stop
03:49here? Or could it push the U.S.-Iran confrontation into an even more dangerous phase?
