07:54found dead in his hotel room earlier today. McMahon offers his condolences to Bryan's
07:59family, and he says this next match is a replacement for Pillman vs Foley. McMahon reiterates that
08:05the WWF will pass on more information when it becomes available. I remember watching
08:10this and being incredibly bummed out about the news, and it doesn't really sink in
08:14either until a few days later. Still, the classic WWF mantra is the show must go on,
08:20and Bad Blood moves forward with a replacement match, it's a minis tag team bout, Tarantula
08:25in Mosaic vs Maxmini in Nova. Nova wrestled not too long ago as Mr Lucky and before that
08:31he wrestled as Masquereta Sagrada. You know what they expect here really, Jerry Lawler
08:35got a bit of revenge for Max taking his crown at ground zero when Tarantula dropped Max on
08:39the announcer's table, the king loved this by the way, poor Max fell over too when trying
08:44to get his wits about him, and Lawler continued to laugh at Maxmini every time he got her.
08:54The last arm drag was botched a little too, as was the three count but you don't go into
08:58these matches caring all that much about the outcome, the babyfaces win and Jerry Lawler
09:03can't believe it. It goes without saying that this is no replacement for Dude Love vs Brian
09:07Pillman.
09:12The tag team titles are on the line next when the Godwins, along with uncle Cletus, challenge
09:18the headbangers. Mosh and Thrasher clear out the ring before the match gets underway, when
09:22both teams get to their corners, Finneas decides to spit in the air and catch it because why
09:27not? Mosh decides to do one better, he spits in the air and catches it in his mouth, professional
09:32wrestling ladies and gentlemen. Mosh sends Finneas out of the ring with the head scissors,
09:37Thrasher does something to Finneas on the outside but the cameras don't catch it, and Mosh
09:41keeps the hog farmer from getting in the ring with a springboard clothesline. A double flopjack
09:46almost goes terribly wrong when Finneas tucks in his chin, and you can see the headbangers
09:51giving Finneas a few seconds and the referee confirms he's okay, this was pretty scary.
09:56As soon as he's back on his feet, Finneas tags out, you can also see he's in a rush
10:00to get out and recover. Henry takes over, the hog farmer talks smack to fans in attendance
10:05before going at it with Thrasher, but a dropkick sends the Godwin out of the ring. Finneas looks
10:10like he's good to go again so he tags back in and almost immediately he gets double teamed.
10:15The headbangers work well together here, Thrasher front suplexes Mosh right on top of Finneas,
10:20and Mosh then applies an arm bar. Henry gets a little payback for his tag team partner when
10:25he gets tagged back in and McMahon comments on Thrasher's unique under attire, that dirty
10:30little shitbag Cletus helps Henry and Finneas, and things aren't looking so good for the tag
10:34team champions. After taking a clothesline from Cletus, Thrasher gets in the ring and Finneas
10:39hits multiple knee drops on the headbanger. Thrasher does eventually cover the hog farmer
10:44but the referee was distracted and the crowd boos. Henry pulls off a nice wheelbarrow face
10:49buster that could have ended the match, but Thrasher gets up and the two collide into each
10:53other. Both men struggle to make it to their corners, the crowd remains relatively silent
10:58as Henry makes the tag and he cuts Thrasher off, Thrasher has no choice but to fight back
11:02but he does well and Finneas goes down after a back suplex. Mosh gets tagged in and he cleans
11:08house, even Cletus gets whacked. Thrasher powerbombs his own tag team partner on top of Finneas
11:13but Finneas kicks out. Mosh then goes for a seated senton from the top but Finneas counters
11:18with a rough sit down powerbomb. Cletus holds Thrasher back and the Godwins win the WWF tag
11:23team titles for a second time. The Godwins and Cletus attack the headbangers after the
11:28match, we see an assisted slop drop and uncle Cletus attacks the headbangers with his lucky
11:33horseshoe. Howard Finkel announces that the Godwins must leave or they'll be stripped of their
11:37newly won tag team titles, and after an argument with the Fink and Vince McMahon, the Godwins
11:42leave. I'm not so sure that fans were ready to see the headbangers drop the tag team belts,
11:47but there you go, Henry and Finneas are the new tag team champions.
11:53The WWF want to honour a few names who made St. Louis the great wrestling city that it is,
11:59Jim Ross is going to introduce a few guys from the past and the fans will have a chance
12:03to show their appreciation. Gene Koniski, who won the NWA championship for the first time
12:08in St. Louis, is the first to come down to the ring. Jack Briscoe is next to be honoured
12:12thanks to his rivalry with Dory Funk Jr in St. Louis, and Dory Funk Jr is the next man out.
12:187 time NWA champion Harley Race gets honoured next, Terry Funk then comes out and he gets a
12:24great ovation too, Jim Ross calls Terry the original rattlesnake. And finally, St. Louis natives
12:30Sam Mushnick and Lou Thez get honoured. Mushnick was a sports writer in St. Louis and he began
12:35promoting shows in the region following World War 2, he brought in all the top stars including
12:40all the superstars getting honoured tonight. Michael Cole says in the voiceover that Mushnick
12:45retired after making St. Louis the premier region for wrestling in the entire United States,
12:49and he'll be forever remembered as one of the greatest promoters in history.
12:57Commissioner Slaughter ordered Steve Austin to show up at Bad Blood and Stone Cold has
13:01to present the winner of the Intercontinental title tournament with the IC title. Austin's
13:06been on a rampage, stunning commentators, officials and even Vince McMahon himself, but it all comes
13:12to a head tomorrow night on Raw when Austin picks one of three options. He can bring in
13:17a doctor's note to say he can compete once again inside the ring, he can sign a waiver meaning
13:22the world wrestling federation aren't liable for any serious injuries he may sustain by
13:26coming back too soon or he can leave the company. Before that happens though, he's gonna have
13:31to give the IC title to either Owen Hart or Farouk, it all depends on who wins the next
13:36match. Owen Hart says WWF officials must do their job tonight and keep Steve Austin away
13:41from the ring, all Austin should be doing tonight is handing the king of hearts his Intercontinental
13:46Championship. Doc Hendricks says Farouk may have a trump card and Steve Austin saying his
13:51stone cold seems hellbent on attacking Owen but Farouk says this is nation business tonight,
13:56not horsemen business, nation business. Farouk's gonna show everyone what the nation stands
14:01for by kicking Owen's ass tonight and as for Steve Austin, he's just another name
14:05that doesn't mean anything to Farouk. Before the IC title match begins, Vince McMahon says
14:10there's an update regarding Brian Pillman that just came through, no foul play was suspected
14:15and it looks like a drug overdose ended Brian's life, Vince says it could be prescription or
14:20it could be recreational. McMahon says this is a problem in all sports and all forms of entertainment
14:26but things won't be made clear until toxicology reports have been completed in another 7 days.
14:32It's the part where Vince says it's a problem in all sports and all forms of entertainment
14:36that got people worked up, in a way it felt like McMahon was covering his ass but if you
14:40thought this was bad, just wait until Raw tomorrow night.
14:48McMahon says the passing of Brian Pillman could be currently affecting Owen as the King of
14:53Hearts isn't looking too excited tonight on his way to the ring. JR explains that Stu
14:57Hart was like a father to Pillman and this must weigh heavy on Owens mind. After Farouk and
15:02Owen get in the ring, Steve Austin makes his entrance, holding the IC title he has to present
15:07to the winner, he flips Owen off before taking his spot right next to Sgt. Slaughter and
15:11he rings the bell to get the match underway. Austin then takes McMahon's headset, Owen shows
15:21Austin his own 316 shirt and Austin says this is nothing but cheap heat and he calls Owen a
15:26piece of trash. McMahon then gets his headset back and Austin watches on as Owen for it go
15:31to work. Austin then takes Jerry Lawler's headset just for the fun of it, a shoulder block puts
15:36Owen down and Farouk dumps Owen on the mat after getting headlocked, Owen, naturally blames
15:41it on Austin. Austin's on the security radio talking to someone as the match continues on,
15:46Hart slides under Farouk and he performs a spinning heel kick and Owen takes a page out of brother
15:51Brett's book by targeting the left leg and knee. Owen brings it down to the mat as Austin takes
15:56over the Spanish announce table, Austin hears the word local coming from Tito Santana and
16:06he wonders if Tito thinks he's crazy, Tito says just a little bit and Austin says he
16:11knows enough Spanish to know when someone's talking shit about him and Santana says they're
16:15amigos, brilliant. As Owen continues the assault on Farouk's leg, Austin visits the French
16:21announce table, he says he doesn't speak French but he'll smack the French out of Ray Rougeau,
16:26he then orders Ray to tell the French speaking audience that Stone Cold's gonna appear at
16:30Survivor Series in Montreal next month. Farouk fights back and he delivers a backbreaker,
16:35it only scores a two count, he tries a leg drop from the second rope but he misses, Farouk then
16:39has to kick Owen away during a sharpshooter attempt and the king of hearts takes a power slam
16:44before kicking out of two. Jim Neidhart then shows up to give Owen some moral support, he jumps
16:49on the apron as Farouk goes for a leap for all body guillotine but Owen moves out of the way,
16:54and then Steve Austin hits Farouk with the IC title, Slaughter was too busy with Jim Neidhart
16:59and he didn't see what happened. Confused, Owen pins Farouk and Owen wins the IC title
17:04for a second time just like that. The commentators don't know why Austin effectively helped Owen
17:10but it's fairly obvious, Austin wants to beat Owen for the IC title. Farouk's pretty upset with the
17:16outcome but there you go, Owen's the new IC champion, the match was pretty short and Owen did it all
17:22by
17:22himself. Los Bariquas vs the DOA took place and I was just hoping to see a ton of rest holes
17:29here,
17:30honestly you just get kinda fed up with this gang war stuff and you just want to see some humour
17:34in
17:34the matches. This bout wasn't scheduled to take place either, McMahon and Ross confirmed they scrambled
17:40to put this match together, basically they were just trying to fill time due to the cancellation of
17:44Pillman vs Doodlove. The minis tag match and the IC title match didn't go on long at all, so this
17:50was
17:51put together just to extend the show and fill the promised 3 hours. With it being a 4 on 4
17:56match, you
17:56can't imagine much rest holes going on. Eh no, spoke too soon, Jose won't let us down, neither will
18:02Savio Vega. Miguel too? Fuck, why not? All this damage though did not help the Bariquas win the match,
18:09as Crouch picked up the win for the dirty old assholes with a tilt to world backbreaker. Just skip this
18:14one, you don't need to watch it.
18:21Strangely, Jim Ross and Vince McMahon say Vader and the Patriot aren't doing so well today,
18:25Vader had a match against Ken Shamrock in Japan apparently and Vader got effed up, funny because
18:30they said earlier Shamrock couldn't compete due to that spinebuster, and as for the Patriot, apparently he
18:36has the flu. Vader did indeed have a match with Ken Shamrock in FMW, a match that Vader won, but
18:42the
18:42Patriot? Eh, not so sure if it was the flu or something else. He had knee and tricep problems that
18:48need fixed and he was also battling addiction, something Vince McMahon didn't know anything
18:53about, according to Del Wilkes anyway. He'd make a few shotgun appearances after this match and he
18:58wouldn't come back, he said the door was open for a return but he couldn't overcome his problems,
19:03opting instead to retire. With the Brian Pillman news also, you can't imagine Bret Hart and Davey
19:09Boy Smith being in the best of forms tonight, so you go into this one not as hyped as what
19:14you maybe
19:14were after Raw's war on Monday. Bret says he and bulldog are gonna set one more example tonight,
19:20he and Davey are better than any two Americans the World Wrestling Federation can put in front of them
19:25and Davey says the only flag waving tonight is the Canadian flag, the bulldog and the hitman will
19:31be victorious in St. Louis, check it out. Vader says Bret calling himself the best there is,
19:42the best there was and the best there ever will be is a load of bullshit. He and the Patriot
19:46don't
19:46have a lot in common except they don't like big mouth Canadians talking bad about America,
19:51so the boys are gonna win this one for the good ol' US of A.
19:58The match starts on the outside of the ring with the Patriot getting the better of Davey
20:01while Bret takes on Vader. Vader and the hitman fight at the commentary desk, eventually the heart
20:06foundation begin using flags to do damage to their opponents but Team America take those flags away
20:11and bulldog and Bret need to rethink their strategy here. Vader and Bret move to the entranceway where
20:16the hitman gets pummeled and Davey gets choked out with Patriot's American flag, Bret and Davey get it
20:21together and hard tells the fan to shut up before calling him a fucking idiot, awesome. The bell then
20:26rings, his excellency and his devilency take another few minutes on the outside and we begin with Patriot
20:33and Bulldog inside the ropes. Davey takes a suplex and immediately Patriot decides to go for the stars and
20:39stripes, Bret stops Patriot from winning the match by punching him in his patriotic balls,
20:43but Patriot's right back up and he's delivering a hip toss to Davey, the bulldog takes what could
20:48only be described as a wacky back body drop bump, and then big vader comes in to ruin Davey's day
20:54even more. Davey takes a clothesline and immediately he's like fuck this and he tags in bret, bret tries
21:00to go toe to toe with vader but that does not work, vader absolutely wrecks bret in the corner and
21:05the crowd
21:05loves it, but then we see some good teamwork from bret and Davey and vader goes down after a bulldog
21:11clothesline from the apron, bret goes for the maple leaf but vader punches his butt cheek,
21:16stopping the hitman from going any further, and the hitman then falls victim to the vader teabag,
21:21it can't get any worse for the heart foundation. Vader then pins bret and the referee counts,
21:26wait, the referee counts? Yeah, it was announced that pinfalls and submissions also count in this flag
21:32match, the excuse from jim ross being that vader couldn't climb the flag pole. Anyway,
21:37Patriot and Davey get tagged in and after delivering a dropkick in a body slam, Patriot again tries to
21:43retrieve his country's flag, again bret stops the patriot from the apron and Patriot gets choked
21:47while the referee wasn't looking, vader also stops Davey from grabbing the canadian flag, vader then
21:53comes back in to do some damage on Davey and once again it's bret who has to stop his opponents
21:59from
21:59grabbing the flag. There's a bit of a timing issue when Davey pins vader and the referee's too busy
22:04talking to the Patriot, but the match continues on and yeah, it's been a little messy so far,
22:09but not terrible. Only one thing could make it better… 5 star classic, I love this match.
22:19Brett comes in and vader takes a back suplex, bret locks in the sharpshooter, but the Patriot runs in
22:24and bret breaks the hold after a few shots to the head. Big vader then goes for the sharpshooter,
22:29but Davey's having none of it, Patriot comes in illegally and vader gets out of the ring
22:33and bret finds himself in a figure 4. Brett tags Davey while in the hold and Patriot gets booted in
22:39the face, we see the vertical suplex from Davey Boy Smith, Patriot then makes another unsuccessful
22:44attempt at grabbing the stars and stripes and bret makes the Patriot pay after tagging in. Hart
22:50delivers a suplex and he goes for the maple leaf, vader picks bret up like a baby and he says
22:54not today
22:55champ, vader and Davey are now the legal men and vader goes all the way up for a vader salt,
23:00he almost lands clean on his feet when Davey dodges the aerial attack, some impressive stuff here.
23:05Vader takes it out on Davey though by sending him out of the ring and on the outside bret and
23:10Davey attack vader and bret grabs the ring bell, the hitman takes care of the Patriot before whacking
23:15vader, but back in the ring the big man shakes it off and a double clothesline sends the heart
23:20foundation to the mat, vader tags in the Patriot, bret's now the legal man on team canada and bret
23:26takes the… uncle slam that could have ended the match if it wasn't for Davey coming in to break the
23:31cover. A fan then hits the ring and Mike Kiyota keeps him away from bret and Patriot while Davey
23:35gets a kick in for good measure, it's not quite a Mark Curtis front face lock moment but still,
23:41Kiyota didn't hesitate for a single moment. Vader hits the vader bomb on bret but vader is not the
23:46legal man, he rolls out of the ring where Davey greets him by slamming his head on the steps,
23:51inside the ring bret counters a Patriot rollup, he grabs the tights and the heart foundation win
23:56via pinfall. Patriot, being the big sore loser he is, attacks bret after the bell, bret and Davey
24:03escape the ring though and bret's music plays in the arena, the hitman grabs an american flag and he
24:08tosses it away, the crowd boos and yeah, I've got mixed feelings about this match, it's not a bad bout
24:14at all but it's maybe not a good bret heart match if that makes sense, it's fun but not as
24:20good as
24:20bret vs taker at one night only. The Hell in a Cell begins lowering for the first time ever on
24:29pay per view. This all began at Summerslam when Shawn inadvertently hit the undertaker with a
24:34steel chair, costing him the WWF title, Michaels turned heel shortly afterwards and he formed an
24:39alliance with Triple H in China, Shawn also got himself some insurance in the form of one ravishing
24:45rick rude and this team have managed to stay one step ahead of the undertaker with a series of
24:49attacks. These two wrestled at ground zero in a fun yet chaotic match, too many run ins, too much
24:55outside interference. In order to stop Shawn getting any help this time around though he and the phenom will
25:01wrestle inside a cage that has a roof, the structure we're about to see is the original hell in a
25:06cell.
25:07The winner of this match faces Bret Hart at Survivor Series 1997 in Montreal, so fans are expecting
25:13either a Summerslam 97 rematch taking place on pay per view once again, or the long awaited Shawn
25:19Michaels vs Bret Hart WrestleMania 12 rematch. Either way, this was an extremely exciting time for WWF
25:25fans and the unpredictability of it all had fans hooked. Doc Hendricks interviews Shawn Michaels and
25:31HBK says there's good news and there's bad news. The good news is Shawn's coveted European title is
25:37not on the line in this main event match, the bad news however is that Shawn's stepping inside a 15ft
25:43high steel cage, Shawn tells his boys he's doing this one on his own, no one can get in after
25:48the
25:49door locks and it's thanks to Shawn's wonderful athletic ability, the fact that he's the man and
25:54the fact that he's the showstopper, the icon, the main event, these are the only things that'll get him
25:59through this next matchup. Shawn says there's nobody crazy enough to do this gig except the heartbreak kid
26:05and Shawn's prepared to show everyone why he's the number one guy in the wrestling business today
26:10by entering hell in a cell with the undertaker.
26:18Before the match gets underway, Sergeant Slaughter and Earl Hebner make sure no one's hiding under the
26:23ring, the commissioner confirms there's no one there and he orders the cell to lower further. HBK's out first,
26:29and he's brought his buddies, though these guys won't be allowed to stick around, there's a lot of
26:34bravado as usual with Shawn's entrance and mcmahon wonders if this is gonna change once the deadman hits
26:39the ring and boy does it ever. I've covered this match before and one thing that I think makes this
26:45so good is how Shawn reacts to getting locked inside the cell, the undertaker makes his entrance,
26:51he makes the lights come on inside the arena and that bravado completely leaves HBK. The storytelling
26:57is incredible before the match even begins, Shawn Michaels, the cocky asshole, realises in that very
27:03moment what he got himself into, not too long ago he said his wonderful athletic ability will see him
27:09through this and the fact that he's the icon and the showstopper is more than enough to survive hell
27:14in a cell, but he becomes the walking embodiment of an anxiety attack and he just wants to leave,
27:19the fight or flight response kicks in when Shawn comes face to face with the reaper and Shawn doesn't want
27:25to do this anymore, the cell itself is now a real part of this match without any physicality happening
27:30inside it, it's fucking awesome work. Undertaker stalks Shawn around the ring and HBK shouts at Vince
27:36that this is all his fault, Shawn tries to bait the undertaker into the ring but he takes a big
27:41boot
27:41and Shawn's in trouble already. HBK bumps around the ring as the undertaker remains slow and methodical,
27:48the deadman's gonna enjoy this, the phenom goes for the chokeslam and Shawn realises he has to fight
27:53back so he starts throwing some right hands and he stuns the undertaker. HBK gets a few more in in
27:59the
27:59corner but the undertaker launches the european champion into the opposite corner and Shawn hits the
28:04mat hard after a clothesline. Undertaker softens up the shoulder before hitting michaels with old
28:08school, Shawn gets choked with the undertaker's boot and the undertaker delivers a body slam followed by
28:14a leg drop. Michaels kicks out of the follow up pin showing us he's not prepared to give up a
28:18chance at
28:19the world wrestling federation title, even if it means going through hell with the undertaker.
28:24Shawn's feet touch the cage roof during a back body drop, the undertaker stops michaels from
28:28mounting any kind of comeback with a few right hands and then taker throws Shawn out of the ring,
28:33the cell is now going to be used as a weapon. Taker lifts Shawn up in the air with a
28:37chokehold,
28:38Shawn sticks his thumb in the undertaker's eye but the deadman shakes it off, HBK tries to escape but
28:43there's nowhere to go, so taker pulls Shawn down from the cage panel and the undertaker decides to launch
28:48Shawn into the cell before hitting another clothesline. This happens twice as Jim Ross says the
28:54undertaker is in absolutely no hurry tonight, he's gonna make Shawn pay. Taker goes for a powerbomb in
29:00the corner, Shawn grabs the cage and he punches Taker over and over again but it does no damage at
29:05all and Shawn gets rammed into the corner of the cell, HBKs in a bad way as Taker picks him
29:10up, the
29:11phenom lays in a few body shots and Shawn gets rammed from the ring post of the cell corner over
29:17and over,
29:17the phenom takes a moment to think about what he's gonna do next, he scoops HBK up on his shoulder
29:23but Shawn counters it and Taker goes into the cell but still, Taker shrugs it off and Shawn gets mowed
29:28down again, Michaels hasn't been destroyed this badly ever in his career and the commentators say
29:34Shawn really is in hell right now. Desperation takes over, Shawn dodges another attack at the
29:40cage panel and all he can do is fall down to his knees and throw right hands over and over
29:45again,
29:45the crowd boos as the undertaker's been stopped for the first time in this match. Michaels then gets in
29:51the ring hoping to keep his advantage when Taker tries to follow him but Shawn gets his neck snapped
29:55on the top rope and he's back to square one. Taker tries to step inside the ring but Michaels runs
30:01at him and Taker goes into the cell, a dive through the middle rope helps keep the undertaker down
30:06and Shawn climbs the cell before dropping an elbow on the dead man. The athletic ability Shawn mentioned
30:12earlier continues to come into play with a diving clothesline from the apron to the outside and
30:17Michaels then decides it's time to do some serious damage with the ring steps, the phenom gets hit
30:22twice across the back as Michaels is feeling a lot more confident now, he brings the undertaker to
30:27the base of the steps and Shawn Michaels delivers a pile driver. Sean grabs a chair, it was a chair
30:37that
30:37gets started all of this in the first place and the undertaker takes a shot across the back, Shawn lines
30:42up another and the dead man takes another chair shot, Shawn believes he's done enough damage but the
30:48undertaker kicks out at two. Taker then gets tied up in the ropes giving HBK a few free shots but
30:54a big
30:54boot stops Michaels in his tracks and Shawn takes a back body drop, HBK flies out of the ring and
31:00he falls
31:00on a cameraman and that poor cameraman takes a kickin from the heartbreak kid. Shawn grabs the cameraman and
31:06he throws him right beside the cage door and back in the ring the undertaker's kept at bay with a
31:11flying
31:11forearm, Michaels hits the diving elbow as commissioner slaughter comes down to the ring, he wants to get
31:17the cage door open so that cameraman can get out, Michaels then hits sweet chin music, the dead man sits
31:22up
31:22and HBK sees that the door's opened up and he makes a run for it. The undertaker follows Michaels and
31:29Shawn made a
31:29big mistake here, Michaels gets catapulted into the cell and he's a bloody mess afterwards,
31:35undertaker makes sure the damage is done by repeatedly ramming Shawn's head into the cell panel
31:40and all Shawn can do is hit a low blow to stop the onslaught just for a moment. HBK then
31:46tries to
31:46climb the cell and he gets to the top, the undertaker follows him and both men are now gonna fight
31:52on top
31:53of the hell in a cell structure, the cameraman in the ring can be heard swearing as blood drips on
31:58his
31:58camera after Taker delivers a backdrop and I remember watching this thinking that cage roof isn't gonna
32:03hold those guys for very long, the way it bends is fucking nerve wracking. Taker lifts Shawn up and
32:09he delivers a press slam as Lawler says the steel girders are gonna break at any moment, Shawn takes a
32:14right hand that sends him to the edge of the cage, he tries to climb down but the undertaker catches
32:19him,
32:20Shawn's just holding on with his fingertips right now, and then…
32:27In hindsight, we naturally compare this to the mcfoley hell in a cell fall, and yeah,
32:32the mankind fall was way more shocking but when this happened and when you had nothing else to
32:36compare it to, it was insane. That has to be the match over right, there's no coming back from this
32:42one, Shawn has been destroyed, it's time for the undertaker to put an end to it and go on to
32:46survivor
32:46series to face the hitman. Well, Taker isn't done just yet, HBK gets thrown on the french announce
32:52table, he gets slammed on the broken Spanish table, Jerry Lawler begs for someone to stop the match as
32:58Shawn tries to get to his feet, Taker brings Shawn back inside the cell, the crowd cheers,
33:03and the door gets locked again. A big clothesline puts Shawn back on the mat, the undertaker then sets
33:09Shawn up on the top rope, and the dead man delivers a super chokeslam. The undertaker then grabs a chair,
33:15it's time for some true revenge, Taker lines one up and… The undertaker then signals for the end as
33:24the crowd continues to cheer, one tombstone and that's it all over, but the lights go down in the arena.
33:39A monster of a man wearing a mask comes down to the ring and Paul Bearer walks behind him,
33:44Vince McMahon gives one of his most memorable calls when he says, that's gotta be Kane,
33:49and that's indeed who it was. The undertaker's little brother has arrived in the world wrestling
33:54federation and he starts his path of destruction by ripping the cell door off its hinges before taking
33:59care of Earl Hebner. Paul Bearer hadn't mentioned Kane in weeks and at this very moment Kane would've been
34:05the last person on anyone's mind, but he's arrived as Paul Bearer promised and the undertaker's in
34:11shock. The brothers look at each other, the undertaker seems frozen, Kane raises his arms and flames
34:17fill the ring, and then the undertaker gets tombstoned by his little brother. The undertaker wasn't the
34:23only one in shock, the crowd doesn't know what to make of this, Kane leaves as Shawn Michaels literally
34:28crawls out of a pool of his own blood, HBK covers the undertaker and Shawn Michaels wins via pinfall,
34:35Helmsley and Chyna come down to get Shawn out of the cell, Shawn's an absolute mess, he can't walk
34:40on his own, his face is absolutely covered, but HBK survived hell in a cell and it was all thanks
34:45to
34:45the undertaker's brother. Michaels vs Bret Hart is now official for survivor series, and the undertaker
34:51meanwhile has a big problem on his hands. Bad Blood started off pretty well with LOD vs The Nation,
35:02from there it's a real mixed bag which was pretty standard for WWF pay-per-views in 1997,
35:06but that main event was an all-time classic, nothing but good things to say about the first
35:11hell in a cell match and still to this day, it's my favourite cell match the WWF or WWE ever
35:17put on.
35:17The Kane debut at the end was also done really really well, there were small teases during promotional
35:23videos but the WWF had teased the Kane debut a lot more heavily after Taker won the belt back at
35:28Wrestlemania, from Summerslam onwards it wasn't brought up all that often and it made the debut
35:33at Hell in a Cell all the more shocking. He looked great too, and yeah, it didn't take fans long
35:39to
35:39work out it was Isaac Yankum in there, but the Kane character worked out so well that fans bought in
35:44and they accepted the gimmick. Even without the big debut, the match was still incredible and as
35:49mentioned, the storytelling was absolutely on point, not only one of the WWF's best matches of 1997,
35:56but in my opinion, one of their best matches of all time. So, Sean and Hunter now go to war
36:02with
36:02Bret, Steve Austin's coming after Owen, and The Undertaker now has to figure out what to do about his
36:07little brother. You'll probably want to tune in to reliving the war next week to see what happens next.
