Northern Fleet group crossed the Vilkitsky Strait and entered the Laptev Sea; operation tests Russia’s ability to deploy and sustain naval forces in one of the Arctic’s most challenging regions

Russia’s Northern Fleet advanced into the Laptev Sea during a long-range Arctic expedition, in an operation that is particularly significant because it involves the Ivan Papanin, the new Project 23550 ice-class patrol ship.

Footage released by the Navy Of Russia channel shows the task group passing through the Vilkitsky Strait, a strategic section of the Northern Sea Route connecting the Kara and Laptev seas.

According to information released by Russian sources, the task group includes combat ships and support vessels from the Northern Fleet taking part in a long-range expedition across the Arctic.
