Escalation is 'on the way' but region must keep calm, Syria's al-Sharaa tells Euronews

Answering Euronews' question at the Arab Media Summit in Dubai, Syria's president said he hoped the situation "remains stable" but admitted "nobody can predict" what happens next, while urging Arab countries to work together.

00:06The Arab Media Summit has opened in Dubai with 10,000 attendees including regional leaders
00:12as well as media representatives from across the board.
00:16The opening session was a fireside chat with the Syrian Arab Republic President Ahmed Al-Shara
00:21who talked about a new Syria.
00:25During the summit, Al-Shara said that people are talking about Syria as a pathway for security and supply chains
00:33and a link between the West and the East, praising the UAE for targeting the right opportunities.
00:40But Al-Shara did not miss to mention a Syria that is facing many challenges after 60 years of destruction
00:47and 17 years of war.
00:49He said he hopes the region remains stable.
00:52The Syrian president marked the fact that Syria is no longer a conflict zone
00:57and that the spreading of peace in the region will help with that and its economic growth.
01:02Al-Shara added that they are trying to find ways to mitigate the damage of the war.
01:09I sat down with him for a private session afterwards and asked him,
01:13how do we create long-lasting peace in a region gripped by the war with Iran?
01:18He said that escalation does seem likely on the way.
01:23That said, everybody should remain calm in the region, work together and ensure its stability.
