00:22and something with too many teeth is crawling out of a wall behind you.
00:27That's the whole movie, and somehow it might be the most fun everyone's had with this franchise in 20 years.

00:41Today we are talking about Resident Evil, the brand new 2026 film from writer-director Jack Craigor, the guy behind
00:51Barbian and weapons, starring Austin Abrams.
00:55In this video, a quick spoiler light recap of the setup so you know what you are walking into.
01:03Then I am breaking down the tone, the performance, the patching, and how much horror versus comedy you are actually
01:11getting.
01:12And by the end, I will tell you flat out if this is worth your night.
01:18Our lead is brain, Austin Abrams, a medical courier who takes one extra double pay delivery, run to Raccoon City
01:27General Hospital on snow night.
01:30He is also dealing with some of screen relationship drama with his girlfriend.
01:36So, his head not even fully in the job.
01:41Simply guy, simply talks, expect Raccoon City is currently ground zero for the Umbrella Corporation T-Virus outbreak.
01:50And brain has absolutely no idea what he just dropped into.
01:55That's it.
01:57That's the whole premise.
01:59One guy, one city, one very bad night.
02:02Craigor doesn't try to retell a Resident Evil game plot.
02:06He skips Leon, he skips Jill Valentine.
02:10And instead builds an original point A to point B survival story.
02:16And honestly, that choice is what make it work.
02:20Instead of fun service checklist, you get the feeling of playing a Resident Evil game.
02:27Scavening for ammo.
02:28Finding a shotgun on a wall and just knowing you will need it.
02:34Fighting locked doors that require keys for no reason other than video game logic.
02:40It's a horror movie built like a level, not a lore dump.

02:48The movie skips in stage almost exactly like a gay mood.
02:53One infected person on the road, then a house that gives you a brother.
03:00Then the full blown outbreak once brain actually reaches the city.
03:06His stress ramps the danger up a notch before dropping him into the next.
03:12This is entirely Austin Abrams movie.
03:15He plays brain as a genuine everyman.
03:19Not skilled, not a soldier, just a regular guy who's bad at gun safety and oars at decision making under
03:27pressure.
03:28And it's exactly why the movie works.
03:32He's funny almost by accident cracking jokes because he's copying.
03:40Paul Walter Hauser shows up as a umbrella corporation figure and, no surprise, brings some of the film's biggest laughs.
03:50Though his role is limited to a scene or two of exception rather than a full arc.
03:57At around 90-95 minutes, this thing doesn't slow down.
04:02It hits its first infected counter within the first 10 minutes and never really lets the tension drop after that.
04:11The trade-off side characters barely get room to breathe.
04:15Because the camera is good to brain the entire time.
04:19If you are fully on board with him, that's not a problem.
04:23If you are not, you might wise you had spent more time with anyone else in Raccoon City.
04:31Here's a B for you going.
04:33This is rated R for a reason.
04:36Except strong gore, body horror, muted creature design.
04:41That lane straight into lovecraftian territory.
04:45Plenty of blood and language throughout.
04:48It's not just zombies, it's oozing, shrieking.
04:53Why does that thing have that many lips horror?
04:57If gore isn't your thing, this one will test you.
05:01The backup is where the movie gets its biggest grip.
05:06The horror comedy balance that works so well, for the first two acts gets a little ugly bi-finale.
05:13Some of the jokes start cutting into moments that probably needed to just be tense.
05:21An ending itself lands more abruptly, dramatically.
05:26Like the movie run out of road rather than building to a real climax.
05:32Don't get me wrong.
05:34Even with that ending stumbling a little.
05:37This is still one of the most purely fun studio horror movies in the long time.
05:43The punching issues in the third act is real.
05:47And yeah, the horror occasionally undercuts tension it probably shouldn't.
05:53But every time I started to nitpick the movie through another genuinely creative creature design.
06:00Or a legitimately good jump scare at me.
06:04And I forgave it instantly its fluid.
06:08But it never once got boring.
06:10The first time a zombie turns out be something way worse than a zombie.
06:15I actually flints in my seat.
06:18Watching brain try to figure out how a shotgun works in real time.
06:23I was laughing out loud.
06:26Because that would 100% be me.
06:29There's a stairs near the where brain makes one bad call after another.
06:35And I caught myself literally saying,
06:39Bro, come on at the skin more than once.
06:42So, should you watch it?
06:44Yes.
06:45This is not trying to be definitive Resident Evil movie.
06:49And is not trying to please the hardcore lore fans.
06:54It's trying to be a tight, gross, genuinely funny, cyberbull, horror thriller ride.
07:00And on that front, it's delivered.
07:03If you want a fest, bloody, laugh out loud horror movie for a night.
07:09This is one of the better theater picks out right now.
