00:01Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will serve the rest of his prison sentence
00:06under house arrest after being granted a conditional royal pardon.
00:11The decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board on Friday,
00:16chaired by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
00:20Najib will now serve the remainder of his sentence at home instead of in prison,
00:25running until the 23rd of August, 2028.
00:28The pardon comes with a condition.
00:31Najib must pay a reduced fine of 50 million ringgit.
00:34In an official statement Friday,
00:36the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department
00:39confirmed the pardon stays strictly conditional on Najib meeting all the terms set,
00:44including that fine.
00:46If he fails to comply with any of these terms,
00:48the conditional pardon will be automatically revoked,
00:51and he must immediately serve the remainder of his sentence in prison.
00:56Najib was convicted in the SRC International case linked to the 1MDB scandal.
