00:01Former Prime Minister Datuk Siri Najib Razak will remain in Kajang prison until the RM50 million fine is paid to
00:09the court.
00:09In a statement issued through his lawyers, Shafi and company, on Sunday, Najib said he and his legal team were
00:17studying the conditions attached to his conditional pardon.
00:20The statement said a significant portion of Najib's assets, bank accounts and properties remain subject to freezing orders and enforcement
00:30proceedings by the government.
00:32It said this means his ability to fulfil the condition is partly dependent on matters beyond his sole control.
00:39Najib is also seeking legal advice and considering his options on how best to meet the condition.
00:45He expressed gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO President Datuk Siri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the party's Supreme Council
00:55members and supporters, as well as Malaysians who had offered assistance.
01:01However, Najib said he did not want UMNO members, supporters or members of the public to feel burdened or obliged
01:09to assist him.
01:10He also thanked his family, friends and those who had kept him in their prayers while asking for his family's
01:18privacy to be respected.
01:20Najib has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang prison since August 2022, following his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million
01:30in SRC international funds.
01:33On Friday, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder
01:42of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028,
01:48subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with the conditions imposed.
