In this insightful clip from his 2018 talk at SACAR, Pondicherry, Pulkit Sharma, Clinical Psychologist, Psychoanalytic Therapist, Spiritual Counselor, Columnist & Author, explores what happens when we try to suppress difficult emotions.

“Emotions are seeking something.” Rather than simply pushing our anger, sadness, fear or other uncomfortable emotions away, it is important to listen to and understand what they may be communicating.

According to Pulkit Sharma, when emotions are repeatedly suppressed or rejected, the emotional energy can continue to build beneath the surface. Over time, this accumulation may become increasingly difficult to manage and, in some cases, contribute to significant psychological distress or a mental health crisis.

Emotional healing is not about indulging every emotion. It is about developing the awareness to understand our emotional experiences and responding to them consciously rather than simply trying to shut them down.

A thought-provoking perspective on negative emotions, emotional suppression, emotional regulation and psychological healing.
