00:06Guys, Mobland, season 2. When it's a British show, it's hard for me to say season because I still remember
00:13the good old days when we called it a series.
00:15I still call it a series.
00:17For the sake of this interview, series 2, Mobland.
00:21How are we feeling to be back? Do you walk on set with a bit more of a swagger once
00:24you've kind of worked out your characters?
00:26The first series, you're working with these incredible actors. It's this huge big production.
00:30You go in, you must be a bit nervous about feeling your way through.
00:33But then coming back for more and be like, I know who I am. I know who this character is.
00:37I'm not as terrified working across from like Helena Pierce anymore.
00:42What's that experience like?
00:43Yeah, I feel like season 2 is definitely you're way more comfortable because you know what to expect.
00:48Also, the cast and the crew, it feels like family a bit more, doesn't it?
00:52Yeah.
00:53Yeah, and you know your character more as well. So yeah, 100% you walk in with more confidence.
00:59But then with the show being, you know, a hit and people loving it, it's also that thing of, okay,
01:04let's hope that they love it again.
01:06Do you know what I mean?
01:07Yeah, there's definitely a level of comfort. It's the first time I've done a series, not season, series 2 of
01:12something.
01:12Look, we're bringing it back.
01:13Yeah, I love that.
01:14One interview at a time.
01:15So that was really nice. And also, it's nice to get to have more time to develop a character. You
01:21know, if you're doing a limited series or a film, you have that one shot.
01:25But to get to go back and do it again. And like we said, with the added comfort of the
01:29fact that you're already living in it a little bit. That's quite nice.
01:32Well, I'm not really living in Eddie. No.
01:34No.
01:35I would hope not.
01:36No.
01:36You're not carrying like a shiv.
01:38No, no, no, no, don't worry. I'm clean today.
01:40I'm going to keep your distance anyway.
01:41Yeah.
01:42I'll see what kind of things you guys get up to.
01:44What was the biggest kind of surprise of the first series? Both of kind of the direction your characters went
01:51in and the way the storyline went and where it left you at the end of the first series.
01:57And also the experience of working with these people who were just like they're ingrained in our brains. Like from
02:03Tom to Piers and Helena, we've seen them in so much for so many years.
02:07You must have gone in with kind of almost like preconceptions of what they were going to be like or
02:11what it would be like to perform kind of face to face with them.
02:15Hmm. Not so much a preconception for me. I just admired like having watched Pearson Helen in films for so
02:22many years and Helen is in so many films that I love to then get to play have such an
02:27intimate relationship between the characters was like quite surreal in the first season.
02:32But she's amazing. And they both and they all make us feel so at ease, don't they?
02:36Oh, yeah. And then, like I said, to come back and do it again and get to develop it even
02:41more.
02:42And in this season, you're going to see so much more of Maeve and Eddie getting up to no good.
02:45So, yeah, it was really fun.
02:48I've seen you playing these kind of very intense characters before.
02:52Amanda, you kind of we got to know you through like Afterlife. So we like something that was that was
02:58heavy in a different way.
02:59But it was kind of offbeat and subtle, I guess, your character and more kind of humour driven.
03:05So what's it like being able to take the reins on a character that is, and especially seeing this season
03:12as she's really assured of herself and her own path, but a little bit more unhinged, I guess, in this
03:20family.
03:21That must be a lot of fun.
03:22It's so much fun. I love it. Weirdly, I love it too much, I think.
03:26They are all unhinged and it is really fun to play, isn't it?
03:30It is so much fun to play.
03:31So much fun. When you go on to, like, I went on something after this and played such a lovely,
03:35genuine person.
03:36And there's something very freeing about playing the opposite, let me tell you.
03:39Yeah, because also, like, we all have our inner thoughts always, right?
03:44And so I feel like these characters don't have a filter with that inner thought or whatever.
03:49They're just doing and they're being and they're doing the worst things or the most outrageous things that we would
03:54normally maybe think and then not do that.
03:56Do you know what I mean? Or not show that version of ourselves.
04:00Maybe you. I don't think the things Eddie thinks from him.
04:02Oh, yeah, that's true.
04:05It must be a bit cathartic, I guess. When you play characters that will say something you would never say
04:09or do something you would never do.
04:11It's sort of like there is a little bit of part of you in the character. There has to be.
04:15So I guess there must be, like, I don't know, like, a catharsis probably is the right word to be
04:20able to act in a way that you would never act normally.
04:22Like, do you feel afterwards like you've been in some sort of sick therapy almost?
04:27I don't feel like that. For me, like, the answer is in your question. It's something that you would never
04:31say and something you would never do.
04:32And that's my job. That's what I love about my job. Like, doing something that is totally different to you.
04:37That's the reason I do it. So not therapy as much as just doing something totally out there that Anson
04:43would never do.
04:44That's what I love. Brilliant. And what can we expect from your characters, Eddie and Serafin, this year?
04:51Because I don't think it's given too much away. We pick up on series two where, every time now.
04:56Yeah, there you go.
04:58Where Eddie's kind of, we feel like he's being manipulated a little bit, whereas Serafin feels like she's kind of
05:04gone off on her own route now and she is perhaps going for the crown, going for the throne in
05:09a way.
05:11Is this, yeah, yeah. Like, there's pitfalls on both of these routes. Yeah.
05:15What are we, what are we to expect? What can you actually tell us?
05:18It's hard, isn't it, to know what we can actually say. It's hard.
05:21What I would say for Eddie is that, obviously, for most of season one, series one, you have this character
05:28who feels like he's invincible and could do anything.
05:31And then his whole world comes crashing down at the end of the last series, as you saw, when he
05:35realises his whole life was a lie and the family is not as he thought it was.
05:38So you definitely meet someone who I think has gone from being up here to being down here at the
05:44start of series two.
05:45He's totally broken and the whole family's kind of banished to four different corners, you know, and no one's talking
05:50to each other.
05:51Like you say, Eddie's gone off on his own with Gina. Serafina's off on her own.
05:54Serafina's, yeah, she wants, as you say, she's going for the top.
05:57And I feel like this whole, what I can say is that she has to ask herself a lot of
06:03questions in this.
06:03And it's how, how far will she go to get what she wants? And I don't want to give too
06:11much away, but will she do what, what, what no one would expect her to do to get there?
06:15Well, nobody should stay away from chainsaws this year.
06:19Yeah.
06:20And finally, with streaming, it's difficult to tell.
06:24We used to have like shows, it'd be like on BBC One or something at nine o'clock on a
06:27Friday and everyone knows like how big a show is.
06:29Whereas these, you kind of have to wait until things are recommissioned before you've really idea how many people are
06:33watching it.
06:33What's the feedback been for you guys from people out in the public and people in the industry to the
06:38show?
06:38It was pretty instant, wasn't it?
06:40Yeah, it was good.
06:41I, I, the thing I was most impressed and chuffed about really after series one was that, um, we drop
06:47an episode once a week, which is like kind of considered the old fashioned way now.
06:51You know, with streaming, it's like you can binge everything at once.
06:54Yeah.
06:54And I think it was really brave of the studio not to do that for this.
06:58And people really bought into it.
06:59We, we used to transmit on Sundays in series one and, um, it was like Mobland Sundays.
07:04I remember so many people I knew would say, or like when I, if I went to football or something,
07:08people would come up to me and say, oh, we love Sunday mornings and we wake up to watch Mobland
07:11or we all get round to watch Mobland on a Sunday night.
07:14And I think that's something which is really uncommon now.
07:17Yeah.
07:17So it's really nice that people bought into that, wasn't it?
07:19Yeah.
07:19I agree.
07:20Yeah.
07:20I think it's coming back.
07:21Something like lanterns and stuff on HBO that we're like releasing every week.
07:24And I think people.
07:25I love that.
07:25I'm hungry to have a place to be at a certain time.
07:27It makes it more of an occasion, doesn't it?
07:28Absolutely.
