00:00And so the next place I want to take us here, Noda, is the Champion Store. Because when I got
00:05into TV, you're just kind of getting inching closer to 50 years old. And I remember kind of leading up
00:11to when you had turned 50 was that you were kind of working your way back, trying to get your
00:15game right, trying to get back in shape.
00:18And really, I want to just talk a little bit about that experience and kind of what surprised you about
00:25how difficult it was to kind of get back into playing shape. And is there anything that you would have
00:31done differently during that time? Because going back to a full schedule when you haven't played one in a very
00:38long time, it's challenging.
00:41Well, in a nutshell, it really took me by surprise the high caliber of golf that was happening out there.
00:49Like I literally, I went out there and I got my butt kicked. And it was, I walked away after
00:57my first year going, wow, I really thought I was a better golfer than that.
01:00But it gave me a deep sense of appreciation for those players out there, the Jimenez's, the Ernie L's, the
01:08Vijay Singh's players, players that sort of we've known for a long time that have managed to keep their game
01:14at such a high level, you know, and 54 hole events, if you're not getting out there and shooting 67
01:19or better in their first round, it's hard to win.
01:22Um, and so I walked away with a deep sense of respect and appreciation first. Secondly, um, I wasn't prepared
01:31at all. Uh, you know, I think if you want to look at a textbook example of how to be
01:39prepared for the champions tour, it's Zach Johnson, it's Stuart Sink. Those guys played all the way up until they
01:47turned 50. They were still playing on the PGA tour. Not everybody is good enough to do that. They are.
01:51And so it's no surprise that as they transition, they come out and they dominate because they still hit it
01:57far. They're two of the longest players on the tour. And they're, if they both show up in a field,
02:03they're literally the two players that you have to keep up with if you want to win.
02:07Um, and lastly, you know, my body wasn't ready for the beating of professional golf. Like I was doing what
02:17we're doing on television and, you know, sitting in a chair for six hours and calling golf and going back
02:22and having a crappy meal at the hotel and getting up the next day and doing it again.
02:27And so that's not great training for professional golf. So it's taken me about four years. I've shown some signs
02:34of life this year. I haven't played a lot, but, um, had a nice outing at Bowen Classic in Seattle.
02:40That was great. I love that's my, one of my favorite courses in the whole country.
02:44And, um, I'm looking forward to a start next year, next week in the pure insurance, uh, at Pebble beach.
02:50I get to go back to the Stanford, uh, Stanford area and, um, see some friends and, uh, hopefully play
02:57some, some decent golf. So, um, the champion store is no joke. If anybody is thinking that, you know, don't
03:03let the gray, gray hair and the little bit of a belly, uh, fool you, they can still play some
03:08golf.
03:08Okay.
