00:06today we're going to talk about a very recent case from paraguay it happened on july 31 2026
00:13and it's the story of rosalind florentine who was only 14 years old she had told her mother
00:19that she was going to a meeting at school but she never came back her phone a few hours later
00:27was turned off it wasn't responding and while her family waited for news the hours went by without
00:34anyone being able to explain where she was six days later the search ended behind a house in a grave
00:41several people were arrested some of them minors security cameras were reviewed confiscated phones

00:58just the beginning as the investigation progressed evidence appeared that led the prosecutor's office
01:04to consider that the crime may have been planned and the most disturbing thing was that the people
01:11under investigation were not strangers to rosalind they were apparently part of her own circle

01:38rosalind florentine gomez was a paraguayan teenager as we said she was only 14 years old and she
01:44disappeared on friday july 31st of this year around noon that friday rosalind had left her house
01:51according to her mother's testimony her daughter told her that she was going to a meeting related to a
01:57soccer team at school number 60 and this was in kazapa but hours later her daughter still hadn't come
02:05back she wasn't answering the calls either and her phone was turned off so the family decided to check
02:13with the school and the answer was different the principal told them that there was no meeting scheduled
02:19and there wasn't a soccer activity scheduled for that afternoon at the school either so the idea
02:26that rosalind had disappeared after coming back from an academic event changed she had lied to her
02:33mother about where she was going that afternoon and this completely complicated things that's how her
02:39parents and other relatives started looking for her in the area but since she still didn't show up
02:44that night they went to the police station and officially filed a missing person report for their daughter

04:26she also had dreams for when she finished school her father said that rosalind wanted to continue
04:32studying and build a career so that one day she could buy her mom a big television rosalind told her
04:41that she wanted to be a police officer later she changed her mind and started thinking about studying
04:46agronomy her dad would tell her that she could study whatever she wanted and that he would help her so
04:53she could follow her dreams these were simple dreams but they were the dreams she had because before
05:02becoming the teenager that everyone was looking for at that moment rosalind was a cheerful 14 year old
05:09girl she studied she danced she spent time with her family she was on social media and she was still
05:17imagining what she wanted to do with her life the formal search for rosalind began after her parents
05:38filed the official report of her disappearance at that time missing person bulletins were published
05:45the police conducted searches in different areas family members neighbors and practically the entire
05:51community of kazapa they searched intensively for this teenager but there's something else that also
05:58needs to be taken into account rosalind's parents said this at the beginning of the investigation
06:03they felt that the police and the prosecutor's office were not looking for their daughter with
06:07the urgency that the situation required the family even held protests they even named some people as
06:13suspects and they asked for those people to be investigated but according to them they were
06:18not getting the response they were expecting rosalind's father and her relatives obviously they didn't just
06:25sit back and do nothing they decided to continue the search on their own they were the ones who
06:30investigated everything more thoroughly they went through different settlements they went to the neighbors
06:36houses and asked questions they even asked for security camera footage from some places that might have recorded
06:44rosalind's movements and that's how they searched for her without rest at one point the police started
06:52reconstructing rosalind's last movements one of the first clues was her cell phone the last registered
07:00location of the device was detected in the area of the tajamar de terebo on the outskirts of kazapa
07:07for this the prosecutor's office requested support from the anti-kidnapping department of the national police
07:12and so they carried out a search in the area with the participation of agents there were also neighbors
07:18involved but this search did not yield any results
07:22this phone signal alone did not prove that rosalind had been there
07:26the phone could have been taken by someone else or even left in that place
07:33by the way it was still the last known location of this mobile device before it stopped registering activity
07:43the police continued the search they conducted sweeps in rural areas and operations near bodies of water
07:50during those first days there still wasn't a clear explanation about what could have happened
07:55the investigators had to consider different possibilities that rosalind had left of her
08:02own free will that she had suffered an accident or that someone could have harmed her
08:07the security camera footage from several areas that rosalind's family obtained ended up being key to
08:13the investigation because together with the investigators they reviewed the images
08:17and these images showed some movements related to the victim in one video for example rosalind could be
08:25seen riding on a motorcycle with a friend just a few minutes after leaving her house
08:31she was the passenger and the one driving was her friend who was also a teenager
08:38from the reconstruction of those movements another friend was identified who was with
08:43them that friday july 31st the police carried out raids on homes connected to the teenagers and during
08:50those operations cell phones were seized which would be analyzed as part of the investigation
08:58the idea was to determine what messages and calls they had who they had communicated with and what
09:04movements could be reconstructed and if there was any coordination before or after the disappearance
09:12it was after the raids that the investigators were able to determine that the group of young people
09:17had supposedly gone to a pond located there on the outskirts of kazapa towards the area where
09:24the signal from the victim's phone was last detected at that place a meeting was supposedly arranged
09:31between rosalind and a group of friends this investigation was already starting to reconstruct who rosalind had been with
09:40how she had moved and what had happened during the last hours when her whereabouts were still known
09:55the main suspects or into the prosecutor's office were three people who could be related to the disappearance
10:02the three were questioned for being the last people who were with rosalind before she disappeared
10:10two of them are teenagers that's why we won't mention their names or any other information that could
10:15allow them to be identified i will refer to them by their initials the first is gib 16 years old
10:22she is rosalind's classmate
10:25she appeared in the investigation because according to the police reconstruction she was with rosalind before
10:31she disappeared as i mentioned before on cctv they were seen together about 400 meters from rosalind's house
10:40where they had met her friend picked her up on a motorcycle and in the recordings they are seen at

10:48traveling along an avenue in kazapa the friend first said that rosalind had asked her to pick her up from
10:55her house and take her somewhere according to her version she later left her at a gas station but that
11:02part of
11:02her story couldn't be confirmed at the gas station because the security cameras at the place weren't
11:09working the police still managed to get footage from cameras at other places where they had passed by on
11:14the motorcycle and when they reviewed those recordings they were able to determine that what she had the
11:20teenager's story didn't match what the footage showed so they started to look deeper into her movements
11:26they requested information from the phone companies to check the records and the locations of the cell
11:32phones in this way they tried to reconstruct where the teenager had been the second person investigated
11:40was kdr a 17 year old argentine teenager according to the police reconstruction the investigators determined
11:50that this boy had been in contact with rosalind and also with her friend on friday july 31st the same
11:57day
11:57she disappeared the prosecutor said publicly that this boy was an alleged suitor of rosalind but this
12:04version was questioned by rosalind's father he said that kdr was not his daughter's boyfriend that they
12:09didn't even know him and that they had never heard about him because his daughter had another boyfriend
12:14who was not this teenager the third person investigated was danilo german rodriguez cabanas 21 years old
12:21he was charged by the prosecutor's office as an alleged co-perpetrator along with the teenagers
12:27danilo was the accused teenager's boyfriend according to the version handled by the prosecutor's office
12:35that afternoon danilo the only adult among those involved and kdr the underage boy went to this tajamar
12:42in the terebo area where they waited for the girls until they arrived rosalind and kid on that
12:51motorcycle that was seen on the security camera and this is where the stories start to change the
12:56three people under investigation had initially said that all four of them were at the tajamar that they
13:02drank that they smoked and that they spent time together while they were fishing they said at one point
13:09that rosalind had accidentally fallen into the tajamar and that she had drowned
13:15this version made the police search that area for hours but they didn't find the body there was also
13:21the possibility that everything had been planned that they had arranged to meet rosalind there as a plan to
13:28attack her but then they were considering another even more serious version apparently danilo had given the
13:35police a kind of confession although it wasn't a formal statement to the prosecutor's office according
13:41to his account after an argument related to an alleged romantic relationship danilo allegedly strangled
13:48rosalind with the rope and then he and kdr left the body near the tajamar they returned the next day
13:55with knives and some cardboard boxes they dismembered the body and they took it to the yard of danilo's
14:01grandmother's house where they finally buried it during the investigation there were also accounts
14:07from some neighbors for example one neighbor said she saw the young men digging a grave in the yard of
14:13danilo's grandmother's house when she asked them what they were doing they told her that they were going
14:20to bury some dead rabbits at that moment the answer didn't catch her attention it could have seemed
14:26completely normal but when she found out about rosalind's disappearance this seemed very suspicious to
14:32her and she decided to inform the police and the victim's family this testimony from the neighbor became
14:39part of the investigation and was added to the other clues and also to the confessions that ended up
14:48leading the police to that house on august 6th 2026 after almost a week of searching they finally found rosalind
15:03it was in the yard of this house in a settlement called padre adolfo zaracchio in kazapa
15:12a property that belonged to danilo's grandmother there in the backyard of this house they found
15:20the pit when they finished they saw a box and inside was the dismembered body of rosalind
15:28but the job wasn't finished with just finding the body they had to carefully search the entire place
15:33and try to recover any evidence that could help understand what had happened you're talking about
15:38biological remains and objects marks on the ground and any other evidence that could later be used in a
15:45trial the next day on august 7th the investigators returned to the site and continued digging around
15:53the pit this time they found more skeletal remains and other objects that were seized to be analyzed and
16:00among them there was a finger that was missing from the body there were also several large bladed knives
16:06and shovels all the items were sent for forensic analysis at that point every detail could help
16:13reconstruct what happened and determine the involvement of the three accused while the scene
16:19continued to be investigated with each dig the remains were transferred to the morgue of the public
16:25prosecutor's office in asuncion in the capital of paraguay there the forensic autopsy was performed
16:31and one of the first things that needed to be determined was how rosalind had died indeed the
16:37forensic pathologist determined that she died from asphyxia due to immersion according to the autopsy
16:43report water had reached part of the trachea and caused the reflex closure of the airway what this meant
16:51was that it wasn't a normal drowning because usually in cases of asphyxia by drowning
16:57the liquid fills the airways and also the lungs in rosin's case it was as if she suffocated with
17:05very little water in shallow water the autopsy was able to reveal this how she died but it couldn't
17:14explain how she ended up under the water the coroner explained that a person can die from this type of
17:20immersion if for example they are incapacitated by some substance or by being intoxicated or if another
17:26person holds them and prevents them from getting out of the water but this doesn't mean that any of
17:32these situations happened to rosalind it was simply talking about possibilities that from a medical point
17:39of view could explain a death by this type of immersion this result created a significant
17:45contradiction with the version given by the 21 year old young man who said he had strangled rosalind with a
17:51rope but in the autopsy no compatible injury was confirmed with strangulation for example no bruises
17:59or hematomas were found in areas of the face and neck the autopsy also estimated that the death had
18:06occurred on the same day rosalind disappeared that is july 31st in addition it was not possible to
18:13perform complete toxicological studies due to the advanced state of decomposition there was no longer
18:18enough blood there was no urine or ocular fluid to test for alcohol and other substances that's why
18:26it couldn't be determined if rosalind had consumed or been given any substance before she died it was
18:32also ruled out that she could have been pregnant and another thing was that it couldn't be confirmed
18:36whether there had been any abuse precisely because the body was in an advanced state of decomposition
18:44it was also learned that the body was dismembered after death the limbs had been separated
18:50at a level of the joints and this is important because these injuries were not the cause of death
18:56studies indicated that the dismemberment occurred after rosalind lost her life
19:02the results of the autopsy could not determine on their own if it was an accident or if someone was
19:07involved but it was confirmed that after her death someone had dismembered her body and hidden it in a
19:12pit all the other elements evidence and confessions added to the autopsy led to the conclusion that the
19:20death of rosalind was caused by other people
19:31until now the question of why rosalind was killed still has no definitive answer the hypothesis mentioned
19:39most often it was related to a possible romantic conflict and to the alleged jealousy of kdr the underage boy
19:50some accounts say that the underage boy had feelings for rosalind like he liked rosalind
19:58that he had tried to have a romantic relationship with her but she had rejected him that's why
20:04he was angry and resentful but so far there is no judicial conclusion that confirms this was the reason
20:11what did start to catch the investigators attention was the possibility that some things had been
20:16prepared before rosalind arrived in altahamar in the images from the security cameras that were analyzed
20:23during the investigation it had been observed that kdr the underage boy and danilo were seen moving a
20:30cardboard box on a motorcycle shortly before meeting with rosalind and the friend
20:38the detail caught their attention because according to the prosecution's hypothesis after rosalind's death
20:44boxes were used to move her remains and also because in the pit the box with remains was found
20:51this could indicate premeditation
20:55in the same way an image of a person looking for a box does not by itself prove what they
21:01were going
21:01to use it for nor does it prove that the crime had already been decided in advance it's an idea
21:07that
21:07later has to be proven obviously when we talk about possible planning we're talking about a hypothesis
21:14that the prosecution is trying to prove with other evidence and here there's also an important difference
21:21knowing if something was planned doesn't mean knowing what the motive was
21:25but when this other evidence was missing the messages the conversations the relationships between
21:31the people involved a history of conflicts or any other element that could help understand
21:37what might have happened before it's also worth mentioning that the accusation made pointed to the
21:44crime being planned by the three young people that rosalind's friend was tasked with convincing her to go
21:51to the tajamar that katie and danila looked for the box in advance already planning to use it
21:59to later move the body and that at the tajamar they would have put rosalind in the water until causing
22:06her death by drowning but this still couldn't be confirmed in rosalind's case so far what we know are
22:13several pieces of the story but not all of them fit together definitively probably once the trial takes
22:21place more details will be revealed such as the results of the forensic examinations of the cell
22:26phones of those involved which will allow us to determine if there was any prior contact between
22:31the three of them to plan everything that happened there are still fundamental questions left unanswered
22:37what was the real motive what led them to attack rosalind how her own friend could she have taken part
22:44in something like this or if she really didn't know what was the plan
23:06to this day rosalind's case still doesn't have a final court ruling the casapá prosecutor's office
23:14formally charged danilo german rodriguez cabañas 21 years old and the two 16 year old teenagers
23:20under the criminal classification of intentional homicide as co-authors and accomplices the
23:27prosecutor explained that the investigation had gathered evidence that could support the hypothesis
23:32of a planned killing among them were the images from the security cameras and the movements that could
23:37be reconstructed up to this moment there is no sentence or conviction the case remains open and the
23:44responsibilities of each of those involved still have to be determined by the justice system
23:50on august 10 2026 the two teenagers charged in the case were transferred to specialized correctional
23:57educational centers by order of the first juvenile criminal court of pa and the measure was taken while
24:04the investigation continues and that does not mean that there is already a conviction
24:10at this point it's also important to understand that there have been recent changes in paraguayan legislation
24:17in july 2026 law number 7683 was enacted after the debate sparked by the case of maria fernanda benitez
24:27this regulation establishes that when a teenager is considered responsible for an act classified as a crime
24:36the detention can generally last up to eight years
24:41in cases considered extremely serious the judge can established exceptionally a measure of up to 10 years
24:48as long as it is justified and it is considered that a lesser measure would not be enough to achieve
24:54the
24:54objectives of education protection and social reintegration this case this would mean that the
25:01two adolescents could face a measure of up to 10 years but first the judicial process must move forward
25:09the responsibility of each one must be determined and eventually a judge will have to decide what measure
25:16applies for his part danilo was sent to the villarica regional penitentiary after being charged with
25:22intentional homicide his situation is different from that of the other two suspects because he is an adult
25:28as an adult danilo faces a sentence that can reach up to 30 years if the court proves aggravating
25:34circumstances and finds him guilty according to the latest verifiable information he remained detained
25:41there while the prosecutor's investigation continued rosalyn's father he also began to talk about what the
25:47family had gone through during those six days of searching he questioned the actions of the prosecutor's
25:53office throughout the search for his 14 year old daughter and he also stated that there could be
