00:13The AGC said it filed a notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal on Tuesday against the High Court's
00:20September 14 decision.
00:21The teenager was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code but was acquitted and discharged after the
00:29court found he was of unsound mind when the offense was committed.
00:34Justice Adlin Abdul Majid nevertheless ordered him detained at the pleasure of the Selangor Sultan at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta
00:42in Perak for treatment.
00:44The boy was accused of fatally stabbing 16-year-old Yap Xingzuan in the girls' toilet of their school on
00:51October 14 last year.
00:53Following the acquittal, Xingzuan's mother, Wong Liping, urged the public to support a petition calling on the AGC to appeal
01:01the decision.
01:02Wong said the family had limited legal options as the decision to appeal rested with the prosecution,
01:09adding that they were not asking the public to prejudge the case.
01:14The teenager was declared fit to stand trial in January after a psychiatric assessment at Hospital Bahagia.
01:22His trial began on August 3 behind closed doors because he was a minor and he was ordered to enter
01:28his defense on August 13.
