00:00two things one is i don't think anybody likes smarm from anybody and and i've always thought
00:06that as as much of a brad holmes fan as i have been i i don't like him keeping receipts

00:11calling out reporters and stuff like that that doesn't that doesn't do anything um that is
00:16something that i think if i held that position i wouldn't do it um but it you know i guess

00:22each their own uh but if you do do do do that uh you said do do i did uh
00:28if you do i heard that
00:29do that then people are going to call you out quicker if you were the general manager of one
00:35of these teams at the conclusion of every meeting you have with the media would you say stay safe
00:42and treat each other with respect yes and gator would you say enjoy your ham yes i would have a
00:49lot of discussions with them off the record so that they could provide a little insight
00:57because we get asked questions all the time why why why why and if we come up with possible
01:02solutions sometimes people don't like the answers but it it doesn't come always from pulling stuff
01:09out of left field it comes from conversations that you've had historically and filed things away but
01:15look as far as not looking like a championship caliber team the defense is very concerning
01:21and i go back to seattle not looking like a championship caliber team against two teams that
01:26they put up 72 points against in the road to the playoffs you've got to find answers and so
01:32yeah do they have the material there to be a championship winning nfc i think they do it's
01:39hard to make a case that they have the material to be buffalo um and the rams should not be
01:44dismissed
01:45of course because the rams you can look at metrics with the rams that are very concerning
01:48but they still got a roster man and it's early and things change and they simply might be the victim
01:53of the australia trip which one of my bold ass predictions was it would never happen again
01:59i don't think they're ever going to play that far away again don't you think so no
02:05no i can't i mean i can't see that it just doesn't make a ton of sense to be playing

02:12i think that uh they should probably have a limit of just a couple of time zones away i mean
02:17it's i mean europe might be and that's a nice cutoff you get six to seven hours difference
02:22depending where depending i guess where you're coming from the united states but from east coast
02:26to to europe you're looking at six or seven hours that would seem to make more sense than saying yeah
02:32no we're going to have the two teams in california travel to australia obviously it's it's better that
02:39way than the east coast team is doing it because they have to go even you know four or five

02:43further but it's just a terrible trip for football two four eight five three nine 97 97 by the way

02:50haven't even talked really about the jamal williams uh thing he reached out and said hey i'd like to
02:57come back and play former lions running back yeah yeah what do you make of that i i find it

03:02interesting uh obviously jamal williams was really good for the lions for those first couple seasons
03:07with the uh the new regime in place i think he said at the time he set a single season

03:13with the 18 rushing touchdowns that he had he was a thousand yard rusher he was incredibly likable
03:19his teammates loved him the fans loved him it was like a big kid uh and then they made the
03:24decision
03:24that he wanted you know more of a role or more money and they went out and they got david
03:30montgomery
03:30and they changed things up and we forgot about him pretty quickly because montgomery was so good
03:34and they drafted jameer gibbs and gibbs was so good but he there's still tread on the tire
03:41um even though he he hasn't played he hasn't played a ton the last couple of years i don't think
03:45he
03:45played last year at all um so if he's healthy and he says he's staying in shape and he's always
03:50ready
03:50to go and that's why he you know wanted to to see if he could latch on with the lions
03:54uh and the lions
03:56i guess to their credit dan campbell said well you know we'll keep in mind but right now we don't
03:59have
03:59you know anything going on right now in terms of the running back room uh where we have the opening
04:04but we'll keep you in mind i think they should keep him in mind and if there's nothing imminent it
04:08would take an injury to to even consider it but at this point right now it just doesn't make any
04:13sense he's at that point of his career over a thousand um over a thousand carries uh 187 receptions
04:22he's 31 years old didn't play last year that's not a ton for somebody who's 31 it's not um because
04:31he hasn't but but it's it's the age it's 29 30 31 where running backs lose a step and it's
04:371200 to 1500 touches where they also the data suggests you're going to lose a step but
04:43and i don't know what his injury history is if he's you know had knee issues or that caused him
04:49to miss
04:49sometime because you know that that sounds like a player who's played what eight eight years in
04:54the league and wants to get to 10 years and um that that's not a ton he's for somebody who's
05:01played
05:01that much played in the league that long the season he had in detroit was by far the best of
05:05his career
05:06the so eight years in the league he had 17 touchdowns that one season he's got 15 touchdowns all the
05:13rest
05:13of the seasons combined he averaged he rushed for over a thousand yards 4.1 yards per carry
05:19in the years since 2.9 3.4 yeah and he played in what new orleans yeah and he was
05:27the backup to
05:28camara you know camara was their bell cow so a different role um but that would be the role that
05:33he
05:33would be playing in detroit would be the backup to whoever it is you know it gives us the guy
05:37but
05:38you're not getting that opportunity unless there's an injury to vackey or there's an injury to sailors
05:44right now they feel very comfortable with those guys so it i'd love jamal williams when he's here
05:49it was a bright spot to have on this team but it doesn't mean that they have to bring him

05:55do you feel like the the erin glenn storyline gives anybody a leg up or is this just all everything
06:03you know about the lions the lions know about you i think it's a wash yeah i do i think

06:11um he's got a different team he's working with over there and and he can only really gauge it on
06:16the defensive side of it right with how the defense of the jets is going to approach the lions uh

06:29are comps out there they can do that but i don't think anybody really has the leg up i maybe

07:12defensive coordinator here um so the as far as this game's gonna go geno smith you you cited the
07:20numbers earlier off the air he has shredded the lions so played three years in a row against uh
07:28geno smith when he's quarterback of seattle it was 22 23 and 24 in 22 they beat the lions it
07:34was 38 to
07:3531 in overtime and he had 320 yards passing and a couple of touchdowns ran for a little bit not
07:40a ton
07:41but they won the next year i believe they won again i think it may have been overtime again this
07:46one was a shootout in the 40s and he threw for again 320 yards and a couple of touchdowns i

07:51he ran a little bit more wild than that game and then came the game a couple years ago where

07:57lions smoked seattle um they scored over 40 i think seattle had in the 20s but geno smith
08:04threw for 390 yards a couple of touchdowns and a pick um he has had his way with the lions

08:13when he was with seattle different offensive weapons to work with with seattle back then
08:18when he had pretty good receivers uh compared to what he's got right now with this current jets team
08:25i like garrett wilson a lot but that's pretty much it right yeah and and then you know the
08:32they're not coming at you with the buffalo offense this kind of is it's almost a requirement
08:37that the lions have a much better defensive performance this week
