00:01C'est le meilleur match qui est aujourd'hui
00:04La Nouvelle-Nouvelle-JJAPAN CUP POURNA-MENT
00:06On se tourne le jeu
00:37C'est parti.
01:00For the first time ever, Calum Newman in his career will face the heavy pressure.
01:07It may be just as heavy the head that wears a future crown.
01:13The pressure of a semifinal in New Japan Cup is upon Calum Newman here tonight.
01:19But Chris, we cannot pretend that Calum Newman made it to this position entirely on his lonesome.
01:25Right behind him, a man that I'll continue to refer to as Young Lion, Zane J, joins Calum Newman.
01:32A man who has been heavily integral into the ending of Calum Newman's last three New Japan Cup matches here.
01:37He has been very strong.
01:41Couldn't ask for a bigger contrast.
01:43Romero and Bolt in an incredible match built on mutual respect.
01:47There is absolutely zero respect for Calum Newman towards Shota Umanov,
01:53or quite frankly towards anyone in the world of professional wrestling.
01:56and so our ever, the Trirus, Calum Newman.
10:16Heuman, almost wilfully ignorant to Shota Umino's game,
10:20as of late, openly said yesterday at the press conference,
10:22he hasn't watched any tape, he hasn't watched any of Shota Umino's matches,
10:25almost bragging about that fact.
10:27Whether he's telling the truth or not, I'm not exactly sure.
10:31But if he is telling the truth,
10:33then perhaps he doesn't quite know how to get around Shota Umino.
10:38And at the same time, I mean, not many people have gotten around Shota Umino.
10:42I mean, Zack Sabre Jr. throws everything he has at you.
10:46And Umino's still coming out on top,
10:48and that says a lot about the game and the momentum that's behind Shota Umino.
10:53It's interesting to talk about those comments from Calum Numan.
10:55I mean, contrary to that point,
10:56there are some people who study tape and get a little bit too overanalytical.
10:59Maybe Calum Numan's the type,
11:01I mean, I'm going to borrow a phrase from our pal Yuto Ice,
11:03don't think, just feel inside that ring.
11:05Again, Numan has been feeling a lot around this New Japan Cup,
11:09and he's going to be feeling a lot worse after a shot like that.
11:12Shota Umino on the cover here.
11:13A two count is all we're going to find tonight.
11:17I don't think that is designed to get the three so much
11:20as just make Calum expend a little bit of energy.
11:26and we talked about pacing in previous matches
11:28between Calum Numan and Shota Umino the last time these two went toe-to-toe.
11:32A little under two years ago back at Royal Quest 40,
11:35as you mentioned, in London.
11:3716 minutes, 44 seconds on the clock that night.
11:39I was there that night, and that was coming off of...
11:43Oh, my goodness.
11:45Put a pin in that as Numan buries that knee.
11:49That knee's been very, very effective.
11:51And one of the big things about United Empire
11:54that at one point were very disparate,
11:56and now that they've come together,
11:58they have been doing a lot of training together.
12:00Calum Numan gains a lot from training
12:03with some of the best strikers in the game,
12:05with Hinare, with Great O'Khan,
12:07of course, with Jake Lee,
12:08when it comes to those knees in the message.
12:10Yeah, no doubt about that.
12:11Calum Numan, you can certainly see the aggression being put in here.
12:14Come on, Shota.
12:16Come on, bitch, boy.
12:17I'll do something.
12:18That knee strike game from Jake Lee,
12:20the confidence of the Great O'Khan,
12:21you could argue, really rubbing well onto the type of individual Calum Numan
12:26who has become so far.
12:27No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
12:28And Numan just toying with Umino here.
12:35Hey, come on.
12:38Hey, kawaii, come on.
12:47We have long talked about as a cover here,
12:51cocky and confident as ever, we'll only find two.
12:54Long talked about difficulties Shota Umino has had
12:57over the past few years in the stand-up strike game.
13:00and Calum Numan really testing that here tonight
13:03as the rear chin lock locked in on a widow.
13:05You know, Shota Umino is much like a bolt in Oleg
13:06in terms of the pride that he has in what he wants to do.
13:10And, you know, I mean, we've seen him, you know,
13:12often when it comes to him wrestling super heavyweights, for example,
13:16and he's desperately eager to try and lift them,
13:19desperately eager to hit that second chapter.
13:20And it's the same with those right elbows
13:23and those four-arm exchanges that Shota Umino grew up watching
13:27and kind of idolizing.
13:29And sometimes those elbows can be very effective.
13:33That lariat, definitely very effective.
13:36But, you know, I mean, it's not necessarily his strength.
13:39It's more something that he feels he should be proficient at.
13:42And, well, the difference is that Newman's blooded Shota Umino's nose right now.
13:47Yeah, okay, yeah.
13:48Ooh.
13:51Ooh.
13:52You know, we've had a similar conversation with men like Yuya Uemura in the past,
13:56the type who say, I am good at this thing, and I want to win this way, so help me
14:01God.
14:01I mean, you cannot afford to be too stubborn in a position like this,
14:05that both men are.
14:06Newman sweeps the legs right there.
14:08There you go.
14:11I don't know if he watched the Zack Sabre Jr. match, Walker,
14:14but he certainly saw the rap that was on the right elbow.
14:16Yeah, certainly.
14:22Callum Newman is going to take a lot of solace in the fact that he has made Shota Umino
14:25see his own blood here tonight.
14:27It's been no secret that Newman and Umino, no fan of whatsoever,
14:33or each other whatsoever, rather.
14:35That dates back to the time Callum Newman first met Shota Umino
14:38on Umino's excursion in England.
14:40There's something about Shota that Newman just didn't exactly see eye to eye with.
14:44That definitely was exacerbated by G1 Climax 34.
14:48I mean, I think back in the day, you know, I mean, when he was a teenager,
14:51there was a sense perhaps of looking up to Shota Umino,
14:54somebody that came through the system, did things the right way,
14:57and Newman at the time was a very prodigious pupil under Will Ospreay
15:01and did things, you know, the quote-unquote the right way.
15:04Everything changed for him last year when Jeff Cobb walked out specifically.
15:09That was the breaking point for him.
15:11And look how much success he's had since.
15:15It's almost like being abandoned was the best thing that could have happened to Callum Newman.
15:19Well, and in more ways than one, you know, I hate to put a negative eye on the man
15:23because, you know, recently returning from injury, God bless Will Ospreay,
15:26but I'd pretend to be Will Ospreay's friend too if he got me into New Japan Pro Wrestling
15:29and I was Callum Newman, right?
15:31I mean, Callum Newman certainly looked up to a man that he called a mentor,
15:34but Newman's goal is not to be Will Ospreay's friend, to be Will Ospreay Jr.
15:38No one is calling Callum Newman that in 2026 because he's going to surpass Will Ospreay.
15:43That's the goal for Newman.
15:44Yeah, I mean, you're absolutely right, the goal for him, of course, five years ago,
15:49Will Ospreay won the New Japan Cup and then went on to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
15:54But Callum Newman has the chance to be the youngest ever to do both of those feats.
16:03I think that Callum Newman might be further spurred on to accomplish that goal
16:08after the surprise appearance for Will Ospreay back in Ota this year, Chris.
16:12Perhaps so, yeah.
16:12I mean, that was a face-first reminder, Ospreay returned to New Japan and saying,
16:16yeah, we can take over together now that I'm back, right?
16:19Yeah, well, I think Newman had thoughts in his mind, didn't he?
16:22Yeah.
16:22You know, I mean, you can go back and watch the archives.
16:25He's certainly had a thought.
16:29Right now, I think he's got to put Shotsumo first and foremost in his mind.
16:41It's one thing that's changed for Callum Newman over the course of the past year,
16:45the vocality.
16:46Very, very loud in there whenever he's in this one-on-one situation.
16:52Very cheeky with it as well here, Chris.
16:54I mean, this is quite the change.
16:58Different direction from when we saw Newman face Gilto for the IWGP title.
17:02He's watching a smile on Newman's face, giving Newman exactly what Newman wanted or
17:07thought he did.
17:08Yeah, turning up the aggression here now.
17:12One, two, three.
17:14The position we've seen Newman in in the time pass, this idea that he could turn up the aggression,
17:18it might cost him some brownie points with the audience, though.
17:21But what's the work?
17:22What's the trade-off?
17:23Yeah.
17:24He's got a, you know, I mean, you shut out the voices that aren't behind you,
17:29and you lean in towards the ones that are.
17:31You know, I mean, it's Shotsumo with a bloody nose here tonight.
17:33That nose has been bloodied literally and figuratively on more than one occasion.
17:37Fisherman.
17:38Yeah, the cover here.
17:39Yes.
17:40Two count off the suplex.
17:42And it's how you build from that damage.
17:48You can hear how he's built off of that damage.
18:01And
18:02Calum Newman taking control of that right arm.
18:04And hooks the right arm with the zone.
18:07That was a heavy strike there, delivered by Calum.
18:10That dropped toehold.
18:11Watch out.
18:12Watch out.
18:13Over the top.
18:14Umino wanted that DDT.
18:15Newman saw it.
18:16Had it scouted.
18:17Yanks the arm.
18:18And goodbye, Umino.
18:20Oh, hello, Calum Newman.
18:22Look out.
18:23Oh.
18:24Umino was preparing for a dive to the outside.
18:26And that's Newman taking a beat to pause and saying,
18:29Hey, what if I take a step further?
18:31I think he adjusted twice in mid-air walker.
18:34I think he was thinking of a blancher.
18:35Then he saw the arm on the apron.
18:37Thought he went for a stomp.
18:39Umino moved it out of the way and got a punt right to that joint.
18:42And this would be a hell of a way for a semifinal to come to an end
18:47if Marty Asami decides that Umino can't go on any longer.
18:51I mean, it's a scary difference between Calum Newman at 22 years old
18:54and Calum Newman at 23 years old.
18:59As Umino chest-first directly into those steel barricades.
19:10And Umino's lucky to spend a lot of time outside in this New Japan Cup.
19:15He saw it back with Oscar and Ota General Gymnasium.
19:18He saw it with Hartley Jackson back in Osaka as well.
19:23Umino, yeah, really getting checked in here by referee Marty Asami.
19:27Uh-oh, and in the meantime, in the meantime.
19:30No need for this.
19:36All fans, he's not setting up that table for a meal.
19:40Gallum Newman has dangerous intentions here tonight.
19:45He might be able to say there's every need for this.
19:47He might be able to say there's every need for this.
19:48What the hell?
19:48Why not double it up?
19:50What is...
19:53What is...
19:53This is...
19:54No.
19:54No, what is...
19:56This is...
19:56No, what is...
19:56No, what is...
20:00A very, very big opportunity that Calum Newman cannot afford to let slide.
20:08What is...
20:09What is...
20:09This is...
20:10No, what is...
20:11What is...
20:14Newman definitely has his intentions here, but that doesn't mean...
20:17That doesn't mean it's right.
20:19Oh, come on.
20:21Calum, Calum.
20:22There's other ways to get the job done than this.
20:25Whoa, but this will do it.
20:26That certainly would, but Umino...
20:28Oh, fuck me!
20:29Oh, avoiding the elimination from the New Japan Cup.
20:34Okay, no time!
20:36Shock down the spine, we're towards the rear of Arunagaoka.
20:40I can feel it through my feet, the impact.
20:45As Calum Newman's body hit those thin mats, and we often say the mats are there to protect the floor
20:50from the wrestlers, not the other way around.
20:52No, no, no, no, no!
20:54I didn't touch it.
20:55I didn't touch it.
20:56I didn't touch it.
20:56Okay, okay, stay!
21:02Oh, God!
21:03Oh, God!
21:06You know, you may not like it, but I'll give credit to Calum Newman where it counts.
21:10Didn't call for Zane J to set up those tables, and I'm gonna do this myself.
21:14That's been the name of this tournament for the most part for Calum Newman.
21:17Yeah, Zane J will throw a chair in every now and again, but it's at Calum's beck and call.
21:25Right now, Calum Newman is gonna need a lot of support here.
21:28Just a move of the referee.
21:31I mean, I heard a very anguished yell when he hit the floor there.
21:42Again, there was a time where Shozumna would have given Newman space.
21:45Yeah.
21:46Not gonna happen now, not tonight.
21:48Dropping right down.
21:49Right back down.
21:50Oh, man!
21:51Look at the torque on that right elbow, rather that right shoulder, everything.
21:55Connecting up and down the right side.
21:58Yeah, Calum Newman's got a deep grip on that, Chris.
22:00What do you make of this?
22:01Yeah, he's an underrated grappler, is Newman.
22:05And of course, he trains with some of the best.
22:22That is really wrenching out.
22:24That's painful.
22:27I don't know what would be worse for Shozumna, the taste of his own blood, or the taste of a
22:31defeat.
22:32But one might lead to the other here as full extension.
22:35Umino to the bottom rope.
22:37And that's gonna force the break right there.
22:40Yeah, I like that from referee Marty Asami, getting physical.
22:43You knew that Newman was not gonna cut that one off before the count of five.
22:54Shut the fuck up.
22:57Geez, Newman's shutting up the fans in the audience or referee Marty Asami.
23:09Oh, no, but not afraid to take the extra beat.
23:12He's got another level of growth since the last time.
23:15We've seen these two go toe-to-toe.
23:17Oh, man.
23:19And now Umino.
23:20Oh, no, this time.
23:22This time the charm, spiking in, Calum Newman.
23:30Now, Shozumna is starting to go places.
23:41Okay, Calum Newman's going places as well, right to the outside of the ring.
23:50And you see the look of fear on Zane J's face right there.
23:54Shozumna has Calum Newman in a great position right now, but he's got to be able to keep on the
23:58attack.
23:59We see everything that's at stake for Zane J over the course of this tournament.
24:05You know what I mean?
24:05Zane J turned away Hontai, turned away Young Lion's status to be with Calum Newman in United Empire.
24:13You know what I mean?
24:13This is either justification for all of his choices or, I mean, it's by his remorse writ large.
24:27Shozumna out.
24:30And a couple different options, gonna take Newman into the barricades.
24:34On the rear side and falls off.
24:37Man.
24:38That's a double impact right there for Newman.
24:41Once to the chest and once to the spine on the drop there.
24:46There is certainly no padding on the outside for this point with Newman.
24:50My God.
24:59You see the wounds of war all over Shozumna, the wrap on the elbow.
25:05The cupping marks on the back, the bloody nose.
25:09This has been an intense tournament for all.
25:14We've seen this a lot throughout the tournament.
25:17And it's not gained him a lot of fanfare, but it's certainly worked out for him.
25:20The DDT off this.
25:22We're not gonna find it now.
25:25Oh!
25:26That is a strike knee.
25:29And now, and now, Umino.
25:33Oh!
25:35Essex Tower gonna crumble.
25:41Good God, what is-
25:43Well, you can see, like an exclamation point, it's Calum Newman.
25:48And we can feel the thud, the impact that Newman's head made.
25:56And Calum Newman just flamingoed himself into the ground.
25:59That is awful to feel.
26:15Calum Newman has endured incredible punishment under the grasp of some super
26:21heavyweights over the course of this tournament.
26:23The only reason Newman is not heavily taped up for this matchup, Walker,
26:27is that he didn't wanna show the weakness to Shotumino.
26:30And that's gonna put him under even more pain-
26:33Yeah.
26:33As this match goes on.
26:35I mean, even if it wasn't strategic, it's certainly pride.
26:38Calum Newman is not the type of man nowadays who wants to be visiting the trainer's room.
26:41Okay, Calum, you okay?
26:42Yeah, right now, Shotumino may be close to sending him to that point.
26:45Come on, come on!
26:46Referee Marty Asami, I mean, really deep here checking in on Newman, and Newman is barely stirring.
26:52I think, you know, Marty Asami certainly knew going in this would be a great physical matchup.
26:58I mean, Marty Asami has been very, very hands-on over the course of this match, Walker,
27:03you know, in terms of his checks on both men.
27:05Watch out.
27:05Full powerbomb from Shotumino.
27:08One, two, just two.
27:13Shotumino's childhood heroes, great former IWGP champion,
27:17Genichiro Tenyu would babysit Shotumino back in the day.
27:22Gave him milk.
27:23You know, and Shotumino's talked about wanting to be in that IWGP Heavyweight lineage
27:29right alongside Genichiro Tenyu, who might have had some influence on teaching him
27:34the intricacies of a powerbomb.
27:42Shotumino, knee strike in the corner.
27:50when he and O again.
27:51One more time.
27:54Come on, come on, come on.
27:56He's off.
27:58King Snuhman to see it coming.
28:04Strike knee.
28:05Strike knee for the cover.
28:10Il n'y a pas de 3, mais il sait ce qu'il s'est fait pour.
28:17Il s'est mis sur le pied, il s'est mis sur le lariat et il s'est terminé avec
28:21le deuxième chapitre.
28:22Il n'y a pas de 3, il n'y a pas de 3, il n'y a pas de
28:263.
28:27Il n'y a pas de 3, il n'y a pas de 3.
28:32Il n'y a pas de 3, il n'y a pas de 3.
28:37Newman, Newman blocked it there.
28:39Hey, I love it.
28:40Newman picking up the pace right now.
28:41Got that back elbow up.
28:43We're not gonna follow in with one.
28:44Enzigiri steps in.
28:46And Newman not down.
28:48Sherman suplex.
28:49Newman not down, but he is now.
28:52No, no, no, no.
28:54Calum Newman.
28:54Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
28:56No.
29:00Power bomb through the tables.
29:10And it was all on instinct, Chris.
29:18Calum Newman felt the pace pick up and knew he had to slow this one back down to a halt.
29:24And Shelter Umino has really paid the price for it.
29:28Well, how many young athletes in his position, Walker Stewart at 23 would remember all those tables I set up?
29:35Right at that precise moment in time.
29:38I mean, it is a disaster for Shelter Umino, but it was an incredible split-second adjustment for Calum Newman.
29:53Calum Newman is in there.
29:54Calum Newman is laughing in the ring right now.
29:58And I have to imagine it's at the chance of the people for his opposition.
30:06Well, maybe it's at Umino's expense, or maybe, frankly, Walker, it's a laugh of relief.
30:12Yeah.
30:13Because I think he's just booked his place in the New Japan Cup Final.
30:18Umino's out.
30:19No, no.
30:21Count of nine.
30:23What is Asami doing here?
30:25Newman was waving Asami over for a moment.
30:29Asami's gonna keep the count going.
30:33Count of 14.
30:34He's done.
30:39We should have sounded the bell already.
30:42Look at the blood pouring from the back of Shelter Umino.
30:45God.
30:47Yeah.
30:48Count of 19.
30:49How?
30:51No, but Newman, Newman, that killer instinct that has been reinforced in United Empire.
30:57Newman doesn't care about the blood on the spine of Umino.
31:00Well, he takes blood in the water.
31:02Here he comes.
31:03No.
31:07Fireball.
31:12Fireball.
31:13Inbound.
31:15Got it, got it.
31:17Calum Newman floats for the cover.
31:19One, two, it's over.
31:22No.
31:24Right back, right back to that arm.
31:28He's got his picked as Calum Newman.
31:30The arm, the spine, the neck, every single element of Shelter Umino's body, an area of vulnerability.
31:43The splintered spine of Shelter Umino.
31:47Trying to continue in this matchup and extending those feet over to the bottom rope, some solace.
31:53Not gonna come, not gonna come easily.
31:56Newman's brought this right back to the center.
31:57Now, I think a lot of people up until this point have underrated how fast Newman can be at the
32:03grappling game.
32:04Yeah, and look, I mean, this is a mirror image of how Yu Yuuromura got his way into the finals
32:11of the New Japan Cup.
32:13You're right, you're right.
32:13I mean, the very same sort of hammerlock.
32:17And, you know, the message being delivered.
32:19Oh, the boots to the back of the head, very, very different.
32:23But saying, I can do your partner's game better than he can.
32:47Calum Newman has settled into his groove right here.
32:50And Shelter Umino trying to extend to the back foot.
32:55There he is.
32:56I mean, Asabi needs to break this, yeah.
32:58And he's there.
33:23And now the wrist tape to come off.
33:26You know all about what it symbolizes here, Gallum.
33:29Calum managed to put down Shota Umino back at the G1 two years ago.
33:35But he never forced Umino to kiss that crown.
33:39There was a crown that he hadn't tattooed on his wrist at the time.
33:43Come on, come on, come on, come on.
33:47Come on, give up, give up.
33:49The winner of the New Japan Cup last year had to kiss that crown.
33:54Come on, bitch.
33:55Maybe the runner-up may as well.
33:57Goodbye.
33:58Bye-bye, Shota.
33:59No, no, no.
34:09Turned around with the Lariat.
34:23Every little blow that Shota Umino has suffered physical and mental over the last couple of years has only made
34:29him stronger.
34:30Will he be strong enough?
34:32Umino for the cover again.
34:35It's still not enough.
34:41Both men favor the Lariat.
34:43Shota Umino might be the stronger of the two here.
34:47Keep your eye on the Roughneck.
34:52Kiss the crown, it's over.
34:58Excalibur.
34:59Now it is.
35:00One, two, three.
35:03No, Excalibur.
35:05It's not enough for Newman here.
35:08And Newman pushing, pushing.
35:11Oh!
35:12The Prince's curse was a curse indeed.
35:29These counter DDTs were shown to Umino have been absolutely effective throughout this tournament.
35:36Aided in Umino putting down Zack Sabre Jr.
35:40Back in the quarterfinal.
35:42Is gonna have to put down his fellow countrymen in the semi tonight.
35:46Come on, come on!
35:48Come on!
35:51Come on!

36:44une demi-heure seconde.

36:51Il n'y a pas encore.

37:06Il n'y a pas encore.
37:08Il n'y a pas encore.

38:51At this point in time, the guys in Wrestlers, I'm the peak.
38:56And you ain't ever climbing past me, bitch.
38:58But if you ever want a full fifth, sixth chapter, and you like the color green, you've got my number.
39:10Now fuck off.
39:22Well, well, well, well, well, whether you like it or not, have a face like a slapped ass spiking your

39:44Who's next?
39:46Who's next?
39:47Who's the final person I'm going to make kiss the crown?
39:50Who?

39:56Who's next?
39:58Who's next?
