00:00They did a great job. They did a great job. And Gwyneth sang beautiful.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:05And today, we're counting down our picks for the most memorable times artists have commented on Glee taking on,
00:12or wanting to take on, one of their most iconic songs.
00:16Why don't you come on over, Valerie?
00:21Number 30. Adele.
00:23This mashup is so iconic that it's hard to believe it almost never happened.
00:28In the season three episode mash-off, the treble tones showed off with a combination of two Adele classics.
00:35Rumor has it, and Someone Like You.
00:37Sure, she's got it all. But baby, is that really what you want?
00:44The idea was reportedly born from the star wanting to hear Amber Riley take on one of her tracks.
00:50She even posted a link to their rendition and encouraged her fans to watch it.
00:55Years later, on a recap podcast, a showrunner claimed that Adele had initially denied their request.
01:01And she said, no, she denied us.
01:03So then I said, well, crap, let's just do it, and hopefully she'll like it, and she'll change her mind.
01:07So we produced it without approval.
01:09They took a risk and recorded it anyway, and she ended up loving it so much that she granted them
01:14permission.
01:15Given what blessed our screens, we can't thank her enough for reconsidering.
01:22For a period during the 2000s and early 2010s, he ruled the charts.
01:28Yet not a single one of Justin Timberlake's songs, from Crimea River to Mirrors,
01:33raced the halls of William McKinley High.
01:36This is especially curious given the fact that Mr. Schuster was initially written for him.
01:40I've never really talked about this.
01:42That pilot was written for Justin Timberlake.
01:45Oh!
01:45Mr. Schuster was written for Justin.
01:48Wait a second.
01:49Hold on.
01:50This is actually brand new information.
01:52So what happened to Danaius hearing the New Directions take on his discography?
01:57Timberlake simply said no when the series asked for permission to include work from his catalog.
02:02Girl, I refuse.
02:04You must have me confused with some other guy.
02:08Producers were reportedly offended by the response, with one source claiming it was a slap in the face.
02:13However, it did spare us from the inevitably cringeworthy Mr. Shoe rendition of Sexy Back.
02:19So for that, we'll find it in our hearts to forgive him.
02:22Number 28.
02:23Roger Taylor
02:24An animated penguin besting a cast of live-action human performers sounds ridiculous.
02:30Yet when it came to Roger Taylor's preferred cover of the Queen hit Somebody to Love,
02:35there was one clear victor.
02:47The New Directions closed out an episode with the emotional ballad,
02:50where they showcased their own impressive voices and technical ability.
02:54While some critics found it to be one of their best,
02:57they couldn't get that same endorsement from the drummer of the iconic band.
03:00When asked about it, he not only admitted he hadn't heard it,
03:04he questioned their use of auto-tune.
03:06I just gotta get out of this prison cell.
03:10Someday I'm gonna be free, Lord!
03:16To add insult to injury, he mentioned an interpretation of the tune he truly enjoyed,
03:22the one featured in the children's film Happy Feet.
03:25After being reminded of these classic hits and the Glee renditions of them,
03:29we wouldn't blame you for craving even more pop culture fun.
03:33Luckily, Ms. Mojo's 24-7 livestream has you covered.
03:36Scan the QR code on screen to join in on the fun.
03:46Number 27. Fun.
03:48Whether it was a legacy artist or a newcomer,
03:51Glee had a way of taking songs and maximizing their popularity.
03:55This was the case for We Are Young by Fun,
03:58which, by the band's admission,
03:59wasn't quite a hit yet when the show asked to cover it.
04:03So if by the time the bar closes
04:06and you feel like falling down,
04:08I'll carry you home tonight.
04:14Whether they knew it would take the single to the stratosphere or not,
04:18it was clear they were elated to be asked.
04:20Nate Roos gushed about the program,
04:23complimenting its progressive nature and its overall positive message.
04:26They even agreed that their single was perfect for the show.
04:38Their graciousness in allowing their hit to be used
04:41resulted in plenty of good karma,
04:43as the New Directions version helped the original sales soar exponentially.
04:48Number 26. Nathan Folliwell.
04:51Not every artist has jumped at the opportunity
04:53to have the New Directions take on their work.
04:56Kings of Leon definitely fell into that category,
04:58with frontman Caleb Folliwell claiming he'd never seen the show.
05:02Glee creator Ryan Murphy was clearly put off by the snub
05:06and admonished the band in an interview.
05:08He said that KOL missed the big picture.
05:11They missed that a seven-year-old kid can see someone close to their age
05:15singing a Kings of Leon song,
05:16which will maybe make them want to join a Glee club
05:19or pick up a musical instrument.
05:21That only escalated the situation.
05:23The band's drummer, Nathan Folliwell,
05:25had some choice words for the showrunner online,
05:28which led to him being accused of homophobia as a result.
05:32While Murphy went on to apologize,
05:34he had an unexpected ally in Elton John.
05:37The famed singer defended the show,
05:39saying that some artists took it too seriously
05:41and that he was honored by anyone covering his work.
05:45I love Glee and I love the message of the show.
05:48I love the acting, I love the humor,
05:50the fact that it involves music.
05:52They've already done one of my songs,
05:54Don't Go Breaking My Heart.
05:55It's an honor to be asked to do something like that.
05:58Number 25, Alicia Keys.
06:00The showrunners knew they'd have to open the second season with a bang,
06:04and what better way to do that than with Empire State of Mind?
06:07I used to cop in Harlem,
06:09all of my Dominicanos,
06:10right there up on Broadway,
06:12pull me back to that McDonald's,
06:13took it to my stash box,
06:14560 State Street,
06:16catch me in the kitchen,
06:17look at Simmons with them pastries.
06:18The Glee Club covered the hit
06:20with the same level of exuberance as the original,
06:23featuring incredible renditions of both Jay-Z
06:25and Alicia Keys' parts.
06:27While their performance only helped them gain
06:29a couple of prospective new members on the show,
06:31in real life,
06:32it caught the attention of Keys herself.
06:34She loved their version,
06:36and even described it as amazing.
06:48It was a shining endorsement,
06:50especially considering it was their first episode back.
06:53Needless to say,
06:54the compliment helped kick off the season on a high note.
06:58Number 24, Hillary Scott.
07:00A song getting the glee treatment
07:02was like a cheat code to charting on the Billboard Hot 100.
07:06An artist having a track appear on the show
07:08after a huge event like the Super Bowl, however,
07:10was akin to winning the musical lottery.
07:13Hillary Scott and the members of Lady A
07:15experienced this themselves,
07:17with their Grammy-winning hit,
07:18Need You Now,
07:19being sung by Rachel and Puck
07:21during the Sue Sylvester shuffle.
07:31Scott was ecstatic both by the exposure
07:33and the performance,
07:34and her bandmate Charles Kelly
07:36said it was the highest compliment possible.
07:39While it may not have turned them
07:40into full-on gleeks,
07:41it was definitely the perfect way
07:43to introduce them to the series.
07:45And I don't know how I can do without.
07:50I just need you now.
07:59Number 23, Christina Perri.
08:02This cover was proof that the show
08:04didn't need to pull out all the stops
08:05in order to win the original artist's approval.
08:08During the episode Prom Queen,
08:10Rachel took to the stage
08:11to belt out Christina Perri's hit track,
08:14Jar of Hearts.
08:14Don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore?
08:20You lost the love I love the most.
08:25Perri loved it,
08:27and she made that clear
08:28in an interview after the fact.
08:30She was overjoyed
08:31that they took on her tune
08:32in the first place,
08:33as she had been convinced
08:34it was all a prank.
08:35Once she saw it was in fact real,
08:37she was blown away
08:38by Lea Michele's performance
08:40and praised their straightforward take.
08:42You're gonna catch a cold
08:45from the ice inside your soul.
08:48So don't come back for me.
08:52Who do you think you are?
08:55To top it all off,
08:57their version aired
08:58near the time of her album releasing,
09:00all of which combined
09:01to create a truly unforgettable moment.
09:04Number 22, Hayley Williams.
09:07Although the impeccable renditions
09:09of Britney Spears' hits
09:10rightfully took the spotlight
09:11in Britney Britney,
09:13one outlier in particular
09:14went on to be noticed
09:15by the artists themselves.
09:17Lea Michele's performance
09:18of The Only Exception by Paramore
09:20caught the attention
09:21of Hayley Williams herself,
09:23and she had plenty
09:24of nice things to say about it.
09:26But darling,
09:27you are the only exception.
09:32She took to her Twitter first,
09:34saying they did an amazing job
09:36with her song
09:36and encouraging fans
09:38to check it out.
09:39She went on
09:39to praise Michelle specifically,
09:41saying she loved
09:42the vocal adjustments
09:43she'd made.
09:44You are the only exception.
09:49You are the only exception.
09:55Oh!
09:56She even joked
09:57that hearing it made her
09:58levitate from her seat.
09:59And given how incredible it is,
10:01we completely understand why.
10:03Number 21, Stevie Nicks.
10:06While a mention online
10:07or in an interview is nice,
10:10sometimes the best reactions
10:11are the ones that remain
10:12behind closed doors.
10:14This became apparent
10:15following the show's rendition
10:16of Fleetwood Mac's Landslide.
10:18Well, I've been afraid
10:21of changing
10:24cause I've built my life
10:28around you.
10:31Stevie Nicks actually visited the set
10:33the day Gwyneth Paltrow,
10:35Naya Rivera,
10:35and Heather Morris
10:36filmed the piece,
10:37staying for a whopping six hours.
10:40Not only did she adore
10:41their take on her classic hit song,
10:43it also marked the start
10:44of a professional relationship
10:46between her and the show.
10:47As a result of the cover
10:49and her visit,
10:50she gave them the rights
10:51to use any of Fleetwood Mac's hits,
10:53which they took full advantage
10:55of the same season
10:56with the aptly titled episode,
10:58Rumors.
10:59When the rain washes you clean,
11:02you'll know.
11:05You will know.
11:10Number 20, CeeLo Green.
11:12Season two of the hit series
11:14saw Gwyneth Paltrow
11:15joining the cast
11:16as Holly Holiday.
11:17The cool substitute
11:18that shakes things up
11:20for the Glee Club members.
11:21She made her musical introduction
11:23with a rousing rendition
11:24of CeeLo Green's hit,
11:25Forget You,
11:26proving her musical ability
11:28to him and fans alike.
11:29I see you driving around town
11:31with the guy I love
11:33and I'm like,
11:34forget you.
11:36Green went on to express
11:38just how much he loved the cover,
11:40saying that he had no idea
11:41Paltrow was a singer
11:43and that she'd sung it better
11:44than he had.
11:45He was so impressed
11:46that he had her bring her version
11:48all the way from
11:49the William McKinley High School
11:50choir room
11:51to the stage at the Grammys,
11:53where the two performed
11:54the lively piece as a duet.
11:56Now I know
11:57that I had to borrow
12:00that you're stealing
12:01and I'm cheap
12:02but I'm worth it, baby!
12:03Number 19,
12:05Jonathan Coulton.
12:06During the episode
12:07Sadie Hawkins,
12:08Kurt is treated
12:09to a performance
12:10of Baby Got Back
12:11by the acapella group
12:12Adam's Apples.
12:13I like big butts
12:15and I cannot lie
12:16You other brothers
12:17can't deny
12:18When a girl walks in
12:20with a nitty-bitty waist
12:21and a round thing
12:22in your face
12:23No, not the Sir Mix-A-Lot original,
12:26the acoustic version
12:27released by Jonathan Coulton
12:28in 2005.
12:29The cover made
12:30for a hilarious moment,
12:32but there was one problem.
12:33It was used
12:34without Coulton's consent.
12:36In fact,
12:36he found out
12:37a week beforehand
12:38that they were planning
12:39on using it at all.
12:40He lambasted them online
12:41for not crediting him
12:42and called them out
12:43for saying he should have
12:44been happy for the exposure.
12:46Coulton even re-released
12:47a Glee version of the track
12:48which highlighted
12:49how identical it was
12:50to his arrangement
12:51down to the lyrics
12:53mentioning his own name.
12:54So find that juicy double
12:57Johnny C's in trouble
12:59Begging for a piece
13:00of that bubble
13:01Number 18,
13:03A Great Big World.
13:04Reactions like this
13:05remind you just how
13:06impactful the show could be.
13:08The cast closes out
13:09the 12th episode
13:10of the fourth season
13:11with a cover
13:12of A Great Big World's
13:13This Is The New Year,
13:14highlighting how excited
13:15the New Directions were
13:16for that upcoming season.
13:18Say everything
13:19you've always wanted.
13:21Be not afraid
13:23of who you really are.
13:26The members,
13:27Ian Axel
13:28and Chad Vaccarino,
13:29had nothing but
13:30positive things to say.
13:31They gushed about
13:32how they'd written the song
13:33with the hopes
13:34of it being included
13:35on the show
13:35and even went on
13:36to say that everything
13:37from the episode
13:38it was featured on
13:39to the cast's singing
13:40was perfect.
13:42They even posted
13:43a reaction video
13:43of them watching it,
13:45bringing their fans
13:46and the show's viewers
13:47together for a moment
13:48of pure joy.
13:49Another year
13:50Oh my God!
13:52Oh my God!
13:53Another chance
13:54to turn it all around
13:56Number 17
13:58Madonna
13:59An episode dedicated
14:00to the Queen of Pop
14:01is no small task.
14:03Luckily for the cast,
14:04they ended up getting
14:05the ultimate seal
14:06of approval
14:06from the star herself.
14:08The Power of Madonna
14:09features eight covers
14:10of the singer
14:11with the goal
14:11of empowering
14:12the female members.
14:13Don't go for second best
14:16baby
14:17Put your love
14:18to the test
14:19After it aired,
14:20Madonna went on
14:21to express her love
14:22for the writing
14:23and even highlighted
14:24Vogue and Express Yourself
14:26as standouts.
14:27She also had love
14:28for the characters,
14:29calling out Kurt
14:29and Sue as favorites
14:31and even saying
14:32that she thought
14:32Mr. Schuster
14:33was cute.
14:34It was evident
14:35she'd actually watched
14:36the episode
14:36rather than just
14:37heard about it
14:38and her in-depth response
14:39made it all the more clear
14:41why they honored her.
14:42Come on, bow
14:45Let your body move
14:47to the music
14:48Hey, hey, hey
14:50Number 16
14:51Demi Lovato
14:52Although the breakup
14:53led to some of the show's
14:54most iconic couples
14:55splitting up,
14:56the music was still impeccable
14:58and we aren't the only ones
14:59who thought so.
15:00During the episode,
15:01Rachel and Brody sing
15:03Give Your Heart a Break
15:04at karaoke
15:04serving as the catalyst
15:06to her and Finn
15:07breaking up.
15:08Baby, try to understand
15:10Don't wanna break
15:12your heart
15:12Wanna give your heart
15:14a break
15:14I know you're scared
15:16it's wrong
15:16Like you may make a mistake
15:18Afterwards,
15:20Demi Lovato took to Twitter
15:21to thank Lea Michele
15:22for her rendition
15:23and mentioned how amazing
15:24she thought it was.
15:26Michelle responded
15:26with kind words of her own
15:28expressing how she wanted
15:29to cover Skyscraper as well.
15:31It seemed to be the start
15:32of a good relationship
15:33between the pop star
15:34and the show
15:35with her joining the cast
15:36as a recurring character
15:37the following season.
15:38Here comes the sun
15:41Do-do-do-do
15:42Here comes the sun
15:45I say
15:46It's alright
15:48Number 15
15:50Prince
15:50His song may have seemed
15:52like the perfect choice
15:53for the episode
15:54but he didn't seem
15:55to agree.
15:56In Sexy,
15:57Will and Holly
15:57practice a rendition
15:58of Kiss by Prince
15:59and cap it off
16:00with a smooch
16:01of their own
16:01Ain't no particular sign
16:04I'm all compatible with
16:06I just want your
16:08extra time
16:09and your
16:11Kiss
16:12Fans rooting for the two
16:14to get together
16:14might have loved it
16:15but the star himself
16:16not so much.
16:18Prince included the show
16:19in a rant about cover artists
16:20where he lamented
16:21about how music
16:22was the only industry
16:23where one could create
16:24another version
16:25of an existing work
16:26and call it their own.
16:28He even scathingly asked
16:29if people actually wanted
16:30to hear anyone else
16:32sing Kiss
16:32making it clear
16:33that he was calling out
16:34the show in particular.
16:36Ain't no particular sign
16:37I'm all compatible with
16:40I just want your
16:41extra time
16:43and your
16:45Kiss
16:46Number 14
16:47Gautier
16:48Prince wasn't the only
16:49original singer
16:50to not love the Glee
16:51rendition of his song.
16:52Gautier had similar feelings
16:54following Blaine
16:55and his older brother Cooper
16:56singing Somebody That I Used to Know
16:58in the episode Big Brother.
17:00But you didn't have to cut me off
17:03They go like it never
17:05I've been in there
17:06we were nothing
17:07Despite it being loved by critics
17:09the singer criticized the vocals
17:11for sounding auto-tuned
17:12even going so far to say
17:14that they sounded dry
17:15and quote dinky.
17:17He also felt unsure
17:18about his hit being thrust
17:19into the spotlight even more.
17:21Luckily his reaction
17:22wasn't all negative.
17:23He later went on to say
17:24that he found other elements
17:25of the cover impressive
17:27including the fact
17:28that it's been written
17:28for two men.
17:30Guessing I don't need that though
17:32Now you're just somebody
17:34that I used to know
17:36Somebody
17:39While it wasn't
17:40an ultra-joyful reaction
17:42it showed how much
17:43he cared about his piece.
17:44Number 13
17:45Journey
17:46Some Glee renditions
17:47have gone on to prove
17:48just how powerful
17:49the show was
17:50in its prime.
17:51Journey is the perfect
17:52perfect example of that.
17:54Strangers
17:55Waiting
17:58Up and down the boulevard
18:00There's shadows
18:04Searching in the night
18:07Prior to
18:08Don't Stop Believin'
18:09being covered
18:09the band had been nervous
18:10that the new version
18:11would sound cheesy.
18:13After the episode aired however
18:14their tune changed
18:15for the better.
18:16They realized
18:17how big of a reach
18:18the series truly had
18:19and how the inclusion
18:21of their piece
18:21had introduced them
18:22and their discography
18:23to a whole new generation
18:25of listeners.
18:26Don't stop
18:28Believin'
18:30Hold on to that feeling
18:33It ended up being
18:34a pivotal moment
18:35for them
18:35and the cast.
18:37That song in particular
18:38would be sung
18:38several times
18:39throughout the series
18:40and served as
18:41the new direction's
18:42unofficial anthem.
18:43Number 12
18:44My Chemical Romance
18:46Some reactions
18:47hit the sweet spot
18:48between complimentary
18:49and sassy.
18:50Gerard Way
18:50of My Chemical Romance
18:52found the perfect balance
18:53between the two
18:54following the show's
18:55rendition of their
18:55anthem Sing.
18:56The idea with
18:57Danger Days
18:58and especially that song
18:59was to subvert
19:00and get under the skin
19:01of certain individuals
19:02politically,
19:04socially
19:04and also to get
19:06on national TV
19:07once that option
19:08was there
19:08it was kind of like
19:09yeah that's why
19:09it was written.
19:10The unapologetically
19:11political lyrics
19:12caught the attention
19:13of conservative commentator
19:14Glenn Beck
19:15who complained about
19:16its usage on television.
19:18Way claimed
19:18he'd signed off
19:19on the cover
19:19for that reason
19:20saying that he wanted
19:21to get under the skin
19:22of those benefiting
19:23from the current system.
19:25Mikey Way
19:25then chimed in
19:26to say the response
19:27made him feel
19:27they'd done the right thing
19:29in letting the show
19:30adapt it.
19:31Gerard closed things out
19:32by commenting
19:32that he thought
19:33the outfits were weird
19:34adding the perfect amount
19:36of levity
19:36to the otherwise
19:37serious moment.
19:38Sing it for the boys
19:40Sing it for the girls
19:42Every time that you lose
19:44you sing it for the world
19:46Number 11
19:47Billy Joel
19:48They had his blessing
19:49years before they paid
19:51respect to his
19:51legendary career.
20:02In 2010
20:03Billy Joel mentioned
20:05that he'd given the show
20:06full permission
20:06to use his discography
20:08and cited his time
20:09in high school choir
20:10as why.
20:11The cast went on
20:12to cover some of his
20:13tunes throughout the series
20:14before finally honoring him
20:16with the tribute episode
20:17Movin' Out in 2013.
20:19Mama if that's
20:20movin' up
20:21then I
20:24movin' out
20:25Joel was just as delighted
20:27as he'd been
20:28three years before.
20:29He explained that
20:30while his tastes
20:31lay more in
20:32non-fictional content
20:33it warmed his heart
20:34that his music
20:35still resonated
20:35with younger generations.
20:37After seeing
20:38stellar covers
20:38of everything
20:39from Piano Man
20:40to the titular track
20:41we can see why
20:42he enjoyed it so much.
20:43Number 10
20:44Sir Paul McCartney
20:46You may know
20:52that the songs
20:52of Sir Paul McCartney
20:54and The Beatles
20:54have been featured
20:55on Glee
20:56quite a few times
20:57throughout its
20:57six season run
20:58but did you know
20:59that McCartney
21:00was the one
21:00to put that
21:01collaboration in motion?
21:02According to
21:03co-creator
21:04Ryan Murphy
21:05the legend himself
21:06actually sent him
21:07a fan letter
21:08with a list of songs
21:09he thought might be
21:10good for the series.
21:23The show was happy
21:24to take advantage
21:25of the offer
21:25and ended up
21:26performing a total
21:27of 19 Beatles songs
21:29and one wing song
21:30by the end of the series.
21:31We're not sure
21:32what McCartney
21:33thought of each cover
21:34but it's safe to say
21:35that he was likely
21:36enthusiastic about
21:37the inclusion
21:38of so much
21:38of his work
21:39on the show.
21:40He loves you
21:41yeah yeah yeah
21:44He loves you
21:45yeah yeah yeah
21:48Number 9
21:49Lady Gaga
21:50I want your love
21:52and I want your revenge
21:53You and me
21:54could ride a bad romance
21:56Glee might be
21:58best known
21:58for reinvigorating
21:59the songs of Journey
22:00but by the end
22:01of the series
22:02the music of Lady Gaga
22:03had become
22:04just as synonymous
22:05with the show
22:05as the classic rock band.
22:07This was primarily
22:08due to the season 2
22:09episode Born This Way
22:10in which characters
22:12sung the title song
22:13while wearing t-shirts
22:14displaying so-called
22:15flaws that they
22:16were proud of.
22:24The show had done
22:25Gaga before
22:26dressing up in outfits
22:28inspired by her
22:29and would cover her
22:30again in the late
22:31series episode
22:32A Katie or a Gaga.
22:34Gaga herself
22:34reportedly enjoyed
22:35the covers
22:36telling Entertainment Weekly
22:37that she had always
22:38dreamed of students
22:39one day singing
22:40her songs
22:41when she was
22:41in musical theater school.
22:50Number 8
22:51Katy Perry
22:52I stick out
22:53like a sore thumb.
22:55Next time
22:55don't forget
22:56your jacket
22:56new kid
22:57you'll fit right in.
22:58If you haven't
22:59seen Glee
22:59you may be surprised
23:01to learn that
23:01Darren Criss' character
23:02Blaine
23:03was not always
23:04a part of the show.
23:04Although the character
23:06quickly became
23:06a fan favorite
23:07he wasn't introduced
23:08until the sixth episode
23:10of the show's
23:10second season.
23:11You make me
23:13feel like I'm
23:14living a
23:15teenage dream
23:17the way you turn me on.
23:19His introductory performance
23:21was a slowed down version
23:22of Katy Perry's
23:23teenage dream
23:24which would cause
23:25Kurt and
23:26thousands of viewers
23:27across the nation
23:28to develop a crush
23:29on the private school boy.
23:30Katy Perry
23:31was similarly smitten
23:32with him
23:33and his talent
23:33tweeting out
23:34quote
23:35teenage dream
23:36on Glee
23:36makes my heart
23:37go wee
23:37and adding
23:38that the performance
23:39even brought
23:40a tear to her eye.
23:47Number 7
23:48Britney Spears
23:58For fans of Glee
23:59it should come
24:00as no surprise
24:01that Britney Spears
24:02has positive feelings
24:03for the show.
24:04The series featured
24:05two full tribute episodes
24:06to the artist
24:07one of which
24:07she personally
24:08guest starred in.
24:09It's delicious
24:10you should try it.
24:12I'm 100% in love
24:13with you right now.
24:14During the premiere
24:14of season 2's
24:15Britney Britney
24:16Spears even live
24:17tweeted her reactions
24:18to the episode
24:19saying that
24:20Rachel's performance
24:21of Hit Me Baby
24:22One More Time
24:22brought back
24:23so many memories.
24:25She similarly
24:25praised the
24:26hallucinogen-filled
24:28I'm a slave for you
24:29and me against
24:30the music performances
24:31noting that she knows
24:32how hard it is
24:33to dance with a snake
24:34and that
24:34quote
24:35Santana does
24:36a great Madonna impression.
24:37All my people in the crowd
24:40Let me see you dance
24:41Come on Britney
24:43lose control
24:43I should take it down
24:47You're really hot
24:48You're sweet
24:49Number 6
24:50Slash
24:51I'm a Ohio
24:52Get fucking around
24:54Have you ever wondered
24:55why there were never
24:56any Guns N' Roses
24:57covers on Glee?
24:58The band's music
24:59may have seemed
25:00like the perfect fit
25:01for characters
25:01like Finn or Puck
25:02but unfortunately
25:03the show could never
25:04secure the rights.
25:05This is because
25:06Guns N' Roses
25:07guitarist Slash
25:08is anti-Glee.
25:10The musician
25:10compared the series
25:11to Grease
25:12which he also
25:13isn't a fan of
25:14but claimed that
25:15in a matchup
25:16between the two
25:17even Grease
25:18looks like a work of art.
25:19You are supreme
25:20The chicks will scream
25:21For Grease lightning
25:23Glee co-creator
25:25Ryan Murphy
25:25responded dismissively
25:27calling Slash
25:28and others
25:28who make similar comments
25:29quote
25:30uneducated
25:31and quite stupid.
25:32I just don't know
25:32what you're so angry about.
25:34Honey Badger
25:34I am lactating
25:36with rage!
25:36Number 5
25:38Nicki Minaj
25:39This one is for the boys
25:40with the booming system
25:41Top down AC
25:42with the cooling system
25:43When he come up in the club
25:44he be blazing up
25:44He got stacks on deck
25:46like he's saving up
25:46One of the more
25:47surprising Glee covers
25:48was Sue Sylvester's
25:50performance of
25:50Super Bass.
25:51The cover takes place
25:52as a result of a challenge
25:54Sue poses to Blaine.
25:55Wanting him to return
25:56to her cheerleading squad
25:58the Cheerios
25:59she uncharacteristically
26:00proposes the idea
26:01of a singing competition
26:03between the two of them
26:04Mariah Carey
26:05versus Nicki Minaj
26:06Blaine accepts the challenge
26:08singing I Still Believe
26:09but is taken aback
26:10by Sue's commitment
26:11as she shows up
26:13to the sing-off
26:13dressed in the style
26:14of Minaj.
26:15Yes I did
26:16Yes I did
26:16Somebody please
26:17tell them who the hell I is
26:18I am Nicki Minaj
26:19I mack them dudes up
26:20Back coops up
26:21And Chuckie G's up
26:22While many fans of Glee
26:23consider the cover
26:24to be one of the worst
26:25on the show
26:26Nicki herself
26:26seemed to love
26:27the performance
26:28tweeting out her praise
26:29shortly after
26:30the episode aired
26:39Number 4
26:41Florence Welch
26:42Happiness
26:43Hit her
26:45Like a train
26:47on a track
26:52It's not that often
26:53that Amber Riley
26:54and Jenna Ushkowitz
26:55get to sing lead
26:56on Glee
26:57Although their characters
26:58Mercedes and Tina
26:59have been with the show
27:00since its inception
27:01the two are too rarely
27:03given their time to shine
27:04especially together
27:06The show's cover
27:07of Florence and the Machine's
27:08Dog Days Are Over
27:09allows just that however
27:11and the unconventional pairing
27:13makes for a fun
27:13high-energy cover
27:15Run fast for your mother
27:17Run fast for your father
27:18Run for your children
27:20For your sisters
27:21And your brothers
27:21Songwriter and vocalist
27:23Florence Welch
27:24was thrilled with the show's
27:25handling of her song
27:26describing it as a
27:28a quote
27:28amazing Christmas present
27:29to watch with her family
27:31The Dog Days
27:32Are Over
27:33The Dog Days
27:36Are Done
27:37Glee would go on
27:38to cover another
27:39of Florence's songs
27:40in the following season
27:41further solidifying
27:42the singer's
27:43symbiotic relationship
27:44with the series
27:45And it's hard to dance
27:47with the devil
27:48on your back
27:49So shake them all
27:51Oh-oh
27:52Number 3
27:53Miley Cyrus
27:54In Glee's first season
27:56Rachel Berry chooses
27:57to sing Miley Cyrus's
27:58The Climb
27:59because, quote,
28:00it's about overcoming
28:01obstacles and beating
28:02the odds
28:03I can almost see it
28:05That dream I'm dreaming
28:08But there's a voice
28:10inside my head
28:11saying
28:12You'll never reach it
28:15Ironically, it seems like
28:17one of her obstacles
28:17was Miley Cyrus herself
28:19Although, as a pop star
28:21and former Disney Channel
28:22actor Miley Cyrus
28:23seems like the perfect
28:24candidate to be a Gleek
28:26she definitely isn't
28:27Why do you have to make
28:28everything so complicated?
28:29Shortly after the episode
28:30with her song aired
28:31the then-17-year-old
28:33told Billboard magazine
28:34that she wasn't a fan
28:35of the series
28:36She went on to express
28:37her personal distaste
28:38for musicals
28:39and for pop music
28:40in general
28:41acknowledging her own hypocrisy
28:43by saying, quote
28:44I listen to zero pop music
28:46which is really weird
28:47for someone who makes pop music
28:49All you ever did was
28:51wreck me
28:53Yeah, you
28:55You wreck me
28:572. Kesha
28:59When Glee was in its
29:00second season
29:01Kesha had
29:02in the words of
29:03Britney Pierce
29:03been a cultural icon
29:05for weeks
29:05Naturally, that meant
29:07the show had to cover
29:08one of her songs
29:09Drop-top and playing
29:10our favorite CDs
29:11Going up to the parties
29:13Trying to get a little bit
29:14tips
29:15Soon
29:16They ultimately went
29:18with the artist's
29:18debut solo single
29:19singing it as an ironic PSA
29:22against alcohol consumption
29:23Tick-tock on the clock
29:25But the party don't stop, no
29:28I don't feel good
29:29No, I'm through it
29:30The performance ended
29:32with the teens
29:32who had been drinking
29:33throughout the episode
29:34throwing up gray liquid
29:36on stage
29:36Although Kesha
29:38wasn't on board
29:38with all of Glee's
29:39artistic choices
29:40she ultimately praised
29:42the performance
29:42It looked like alien puke
29:44which was confusing for me
29:45But I did enjoy
29:48her rendition of Tick-tock
29:50She could dance
