00:00Dr. Garg, did you request Here Comes the Hot Stepper as your walk-up music?
00:04Always, every time you know it.
00:06I love that. Love that.
00:09Yeah, so we got the news yesterday.
00:12Dan Quinton said Jaden Daniels is going to be back at practice
00:14as part of the Return to Play program.
00:17And it kind of got me thinking, you know,
00:19could Jaden actually play this weekend?
00:21When will he be back?
00:22I texted you this morning, do you think Jaden could play?
00:25And I almost read your response on air.
00:27And then I thought, why don't we just let you say it on air?
00:30He did say two to four weeks last week, didn't he?
00:32Yeah, so, Doc, where do you think we're at with Jaden?
00:36Do you think it's realistic for him to actually play this weekend?
00:39Yeah, I think, you know, like we said, two to four weeks wouldn't surprise me.
00:43And based on, you know, what we've learned since then,
00:45I feel even better about that prediction.
00:47And I think playing this weekend is very realistic.
00:51You know, there's no fracture.
00:52There's reportedly no major ligament damage, no surgery.
00:55They didn't put him on IR.
00:56He's traveling to London with the team,
00:59and they're putting him on the practice field.
01:01Those are all green flags.
01:03And, you know, I think at this point, the question isn't really,
01:07well, what does the MRI say?
01:08That's what we all wanted to know.
01:09I think it's how does his elbow perform when he goes to practice Wednesday,
01:13Thursday, Friday?
01:14So, Doc, here's my question.
01:17What are, like, the lingering effects?
01:20I mean, just because when we all were in Dallas and saw Jaden go down,
01:24looked like his elbow damn near popped out of the skin going the wrong way.
01:28Like, how long does that injury linger?
01:31Whether it's swelling or just soreness or whatever,
01:34how fast can you move forward from that?
01:36So it's a great question.
01:38So there's two answers.
01:39One is, what's the pain control?
01:41And, you know, pain management, that's kind of the world I live in, right?
01:45So getting somebody back isn't just waiting for the pain to disappear.
01:49You're trying to do the pain control, physical therapy, rehab, restore motion, bracing,
01:54maybe short-term medication.
01:55So you don't want to mask the injury and send him out there.
01:59But the second part of that question, you know, it's really is the joint going to be stable?
02:05So, you know, when he's at practice, on Thursday, Friday, it's going to tell you a lot.
02:09You want to watch.
02:10Is he using the left arm normally?
02:12Is he guarding it?
02:13Does he look tentative when, you know, bodies are around him?
02:16Can he take snaps?
02:17I think Wednesday is going to tell you he can practice,
02:19and Thursday morning tells you how well, how did his elbow respond to practicing.
02:24So, like, I know the stability and the strength may not completely be there,
02:31but also does it make sense to have him out practicing with the brace
02:35where he can get some familiarity with that aspect of it?
02:38Oh, 100%.
02:39100%.
02:40He should wear that thing while he's at practice.
02:44One, like you said, be Mitch to get familiar.
02:46And two, just, you know, God forbid something happens, he falls on it.
02:50But, you know, hopefully in practice it's not too intense,
02:53and, you know, he can get right back up.
02:56So, doctor, I'm curious, the brace, we've all heard so much about the brace, right?
03:02And how, I imagine these are all individually made and, like, custom to his elbow.
03:10How long does that process take?
03:12And you provide, like, multiple braces for him,
03:15try to figure out the most comfortable one.
03:17Like, how does that all work?
03:19Yeah, in the world of the NFL, he's probably going to get, you know,
03:23the pick of his choice, which is great.
03:26They'll make it custom.
03:27They'll make sure it fits.
03:28They'll make sure it's not moving up and down.
03:31And, you know, Beemich, you had mentioned this last week.
03:33You know, they got to make sure it fits and it's not sliding.
03:36And, you know, they'll keep monitoring it.
03:39You know, I'm sure they'll make adjustments as needed.
03:42But the key is the hinge, right?
03:44Like, how far can he extend it without feeling like the elbow is going to be unstable?
03:49And once they hinge it and he gets used to it,
03:52I'm not going to be surprised if we see five out there in London this weekend.
03:56Wow.
03:56So in your medical opinion, you think there's not much holding him back from playing this week?
04:00I think it's going to come down to his pain control now.
04:04You know, I think if it's not too swollen, it's not too painful,
04:09and he's tolerating practice, I think that's going to be great.
04:13You know, the key also is going to be what's the game plan?
04:17You know, the O-line has got to keep protecting him.
04:21He's got to, when he goes down, not extend his left arm.
04:25And I'm not telling Jaden Daniels not to be Jaden Daniels.
04:28I'm just telling him for a couple of weeks, the sideline will be his friend.
04:31You know, like he did in Dallas, keep sliding, get out, keep yourself safe.
04:35Let me ask you this question.
04:37Is it a way of, you talk about the hinge, how far they're going to allow the arm to extend.
04:44Is it a way of putting the brace to where it's a certain place where it helps from popping out
04:50again?
04:52No, it'll help prevent his elbow from extending to that degree, whatever it is, 20, 10, 15 degrees.
05:00But, you know, if you have enough force on it, you know, depending on how he falls or if someone
05:05falls on him,
05:06it's not going to be foolproof.
05:08He could still, you know, have it come out and re-dislocate it, which would be a problem.
05:14So, okay.
05:17How significant is the re-injury risk then?
05:23Oh, you mean if it happens again?
05:25Yeah.
05:27Yeah, it would be very significant because, you know, I know they didn't say there's any ligament damage,
05:33but anytime an elbow pops out, there's some stretching of the ligament.
05:37That just goes hand in hand.
05:39And if it pops out yet again, I won't be surprised if they really keep him out for a longer
05:44period of time.
05:46And that's kind of what happened last year.
05:48We don't know what his MRI showed when he re-injured it against the Vikings.
05:51I don't remember if they gave us that information.
05:54I don't know, dude.
05:56Yeah, I don't think so either.
05:59But that would be my concern.
06:01And that's why I think practice is going to tell you everything.
06:06Very, very interesting.
06:07Jay, I don't think you're going to be watching that part of practice.
06:10Yeah, 100%.
06:13100%.
06:14I know, I know, I know.
06:16I mean, it's exciting.
06:17It's good news, you know.
06:19I think we should all be hopeful.
06:20And I think, you know, he's surrounded by the best.
06:23So, whatever they decide I think will be great.
06:25And I wouldn't view, you know, if he doesn't go on Sunday against the Colts,
06:29I wouldn't interpret that as a setback.
06:31They might simply just decide, hey, another week of healing isn't worth sacrificing
06:35when you're talking about your franchise quarterback.
06:38Totally, totally.
06:39Doctor, we appreciate your time, man.
06:42Of course.
06:43Thanks again, guys.
06:44All right.
06:44Dr. Akshay Ghar.
06:46All right.
06:47Check out his service, Capital Intervention, his pain and spine center.
06:52B, I mean, to hear, like, it's one thing for you and I,
06:55and you played the game at a high level, and I've been in a lot of locker rooms,
06:58to understand what guys play through and know the limits they'll physically push themselves to.
07:05But to hear it medically, that it's like, hey, man, there's no ligaments, there's no bones.
07:10He could go.
07:11It's pretty eye-opening, I think.
07:13It's eye-opening, but I think, you know, the guy, when you play it, that's the way you think.
07:17That's the way you live.
07:18That's what your mindset is.
07:20You know, you always hear people talking about, I got to get back there with my guys.
07:23I want to be on the field.
07:24I want to be out there.
07:25You look at, and I'm not comparing this to military, but you military guys,
07:31you got guys that have lost limbs.
07:33They can't wait to get back with their people.
07:35Football players have a smaller mindset like that, you know,
07:40where they want to be out there with their dudes.
07:42So they'll push themselves through some stuff.
07:45Listen, if you play this game of football,
07:47you've done something when you probably shouldn't have been doing it.
07:50For sure.
07:51And I think when you get a medical person telling you you can, hell, that's all you need.
07:59It's pretty interesting.
08:01You know, so, B, I went and spoke at Riverbend Club last night for the first tee group,
08:06and it was just awesome.
08:07And that place is so cool.
08:09I really love that club and that clubhouse.
08:12I did not get to play, but, damn, that golf course looked good, B.
08:15That golf course is sweet.
08:16Yeah, dude.
08:18But it was funny talking with people there because I have heard this question of,
08:22like, you know, it is tricky to figure out because you also had the looming contract situation, right?
08:31And if you're Jaden, do you want to push it?
08:33If you're the team, do you want to push it?
08:35There's all these debates to be had.
08:37But I've said this to you before, and I think you agree with me.
08:40Maybe not.
08:41But I think it is really kind of a simple process for the organization.
08:46At the end of this year, they just say, oh, we're picking up the option year.
08:50We're super excited about Jaden.
08:51We love the kid.
08:52He's going to be part of this team going forward.
08:55The thing of it is, look, you know what he can do.
09:00Of course you want to protect him, but you've got to come out on the other end some type of
09:06way.
09:07And clearly you can look at what Matt Stafford has done.
09:10He was banged up a lot early.
09:12He became something very special.
09:15And other guys have done it too.
09:17So they don't have to solve that today or tomorrow.
09:22In Jaden's mind, look, I want to be on the field.
09:25If I can play, I want to play.
09:26If I go out there, if I can play and I'm at my level, I'm going to show people what
09:31I'm about.
09:32And the teams, I think they feel the same way.
09:34You can't do this thing scared.
09:37I know a lot of people sit at home and say what somebody shouldn't do.
09:41Your mindset is not what those guys' mindset, what other people's mindset is.
09:46You know, man, you shouldn't do this.
09:49You shouldn't do that.
09:50Okay, you say I shouldn't, but my mind tells me I should.
09:54And I'm going to do what my mind tells me.
09:58Here's what we're going to do.
09:59Coming up at noon, we're going to talk to Dave Pasch.
10:02He'll be calling Colts Commanders Sunday in London.
10:05B worked with him last year in Madrid.
10:07Nobody go anywhere.
10:08It's B, Mitch Finley.
