01:19the day though earlier today on the fan on the sports junkies general manager adam peters for his
01:24weekly appointment was talking about jayden daniel's health and the road ahead and he broke the news
01:30we've been waiting on will there be surgery the answer is no is he going to injured reserve surprisingly
01:35the answer to that question was also no this was peters right here on the fan today yeah i mean
01:42i think
01:42you know we're still he just got back late last night and the guys are meeting with him this morning
01:47and we met with with doctors like we said all over the country and he was very thorough and we
01:54really
01:54got a lot of good opinions so now it's just a matter of you know sitting down and thinking about
02:00what the
02:00best course of action is but as of right now um surgery is not on the table and we haven't
02:06discussed
02:06ir so it's just a matter of that's great we're going to get him back on the field and you
02:11know that's
02:12that's still you know to be determined so that's huge news right i mean that was the desired outcome
02:19i think for the fan base in a sense seasoned back on because jayden daniels is going to return
02:25in under a month it could be next week in london i think that's probably still aggressive
02:30but possibly the following week when you're taking on the new york giants could be when you ticket jayden
02:37daniels to return which would mean he'd only miss two games and let's face it from when he went down
02:42and that elbow pops out on the turf in dallas if i was to have told you he'll be back
02:47for the giants
02:48and they'd only play two games without him and mariota at the controls you'd have taken that sight
02:53unseen well 100 and it frankly would have been crazy and i'm not ripping anybody just simply saying
02:58seeing the way he went down seeing that gruesome dislocation seeing the same thing and uh feeling
03:04those same emotions that we felt last year watching it happen just it didn't feel like a
03:09week-to-week thing it didn't feel day-to-day it felt more significant than that but you know i
03:13i feel
03:14like those things maybe should have been on the table and if they if they decided now we have a
03:18better course that's fine but anyway maybe on part you know uh splitting hairs here but yeah it is
03:23nothing short of you know miraculous i would say not necessarily his recovery otherwise but just
03:27that it's not as bad as maybe it was perceived yeah he met with medical professionals
03:32multiple times over he went to new york he went to various locations and got several opinions and
03:38clearly he was able to hear what he needed to the team i guess more importantly was able to hear
03:44what
03:45they needed to to try to protect their investment their asset here in the franchise quarterback
03:50jayden daniels now i don't think this means that surgery wouldn't have helped i still think we've
03:57talked to enough experts we've got enough information to suggest that the chance of re-injury
04:02is probably better if you get a surgical repair to avoid that but they can brace him up they think
04:10they're going to be able to avoid another injury and i don't know how much of a factor it is
04:15for
04:15peters for quinn for this operation that they need to win football games but if you're jayden daniels
04:20there's a lot of people counting on you and that's probably in the back of his head too
04:23you know how badly he wants to play you know how tough he is but think about the difference in
04:29how
04:29you sitting at home in your car wherever feel about their season if you know that jayden daniels is that
04:35quarterback all season long that's how everyone in the building feels every executive every coach
04:40every player on the team every janitor everyone working at a desk and i think fair or not daniels may
04:46feel some pressure obligation to get back on the field that's the kind of leader he is that's why i
04:51was
04:51kind of hoping they'd protect him from himself i feel like we tried this once the let's get him
04:56back asap this time i guess it'll be different because he'll wear a brace although i'd point out
05:01he played against the vikings with a brace and he immediately left with an elbow injury in that
05:05game so i'm skeptical i'm nervous for sure i'm gonna have anxiety every time he leaves the pocket
05:10every time he runs around every time he's on the move but season back on and that kind of is
05:17the
05:17theme here today i think based on the peter's comments yes so here's the unfortunate negative
05:22flip side of that you better be right it's better not be lying in a heap you know the first
05:27game he
05:27comes back or the second game etc with an elbow re-aggravation re-injury or it forces him to go
05:32to the blue tent or whatever if you weren't because i mean peter said himself now again it could just
05:37be
05:37just the way that he framed it grant but if they go hey we considered these things and we feel
05:42confident
05:42enough that you know he'll be able to return to play without any further risk of complication
05:47or re-aggravation re-injury whatever the right term is you'd go okay well at least they considered it
05:52when you go we didn't consider ir we didn't consider surgery that's not on the table you're telling me
05:59he's fine and it's going to be fine and if it's not there's some really hard questions that need
06:03answering right there that's the downside the upside is what you mentioned you're 100 right and it's
06:07probably what a lot of fans are focusing on today which i get i'm now to your point i'm going
06:12to be
06:12squeamish the same way i was with alex smith every time any play happens but that's my own issue
06:17it's a it's a blessing here i would say to put it very simply that he's going to be available
06:23sooner than a lot of people thought organizational and league game changer just to have him playing
06:28right if you're going to that london game the idea that there's an outside chance that he could play
06:33changes your entire trip right but i think from a team standpoint the opportunity that you have to
06:41accomplish your goals still exists with daniel's playing and probably doesn't without him that's
06:48the quality of player we're talking about that's how good and talented he is but i want to go back
06:53to the secondary angle here because you're right today i think the lead needs to be thank god this
06:59guy is avoiding surgery somebody told him that he didn't need surgery and this is great you can throw
07:05the brace on this is a pain tolerance thing let's move forward the giants as an example weren't as
07:11lucky right jackson darts out for essentially the entire season and their year went up in smoke so if
07:17you're a commanders fan you dodge that bullet this is an amazing day but he better not get hurt again
07:22with that elbow i mean think about how bad that would look what the optics would be what these screaming
07:28hot taking morons on national television will be saying about the decision makers the coaches
07:34i went through this we don't have to re-legislate and do the comparisons of shanahan and griffin
07:40but i lived it as a beat reporter when you're talking to coaches and they're just following doctor's
07:44orders and they're doing everything the doctors say doctors are telling adam peters he can play
07:49all right great it still looks terrible if he's back down on the field or leaving a game and i

07:55coming back to when everyone keeps saying he'll be wearing a brace it's fine like he was in the
08:00minnesota game the only game he played in with an elbow injury before the dallas game when he also
08:05left with an elbow injury so my skepticism does not go away but i am thrilled that they're gonna have

08:15chance to keep him healthy you want that opportunity whether or not i'm confident it's gonna happen is a
08:20different story that's a that's a good distinction but he he's not getting surgery his season is not
08:25over and there's a world the door is open to three months from now at the end of the season

08:31daniels just played in the final 14 games 13 games of the year without injury and swung the pendulum on
08:38the injury narrative it would go a long way both for him and the team to to dispel and uh
08:46to encourage
08:47i think folks in their decision making and their judgment because again last year dan quinn admitted
08:51that he missed it uh with the time he was in the game and had this initial elbow injury just
08:55sort
08:55of seemed like they didn't have a great plan and all their best efforts resulted in a very small
09:00incident resulting in another elbow dislocation it would go a long way for their credibility and
09:04for daniels's reputation as a guy that's frankly been injury prone it's got five significant injuries
09:08before he's gotten to 30 starts we're going to get through all of our normal staples
09:12on this friday leading up to a sunday game it's a field trip friday at sharbar we're out and about
09:20until 6 30 in reston at the jw marriott so come see us come hang out with us today we'll

09:31thoughts on this news on grant and danny your reaction to the fact that daniels is going to be
09:36playing in the next couple of weeks it would appear by not considering injured reserve it means he's
09:42obviously going to be back before he misses a fourth game so that tells you it's very likely
09:48the giants game if not sooner which would be london that one to me still would be shocking because it's
09:53international you're flying across the pond means by tuesday they have to make the decision that he's
09:58going to play to fly him over there i think he's going to miss too but how about this when

10:05from he could be out for the majority of the season after the injury to maybe we'll see him in
