00:00uh the braves rallied past the phillies um the braves won five to three they now lead that series
00:05remember this these are three game series in the wild card round not the five that you see in the
00:10nlds and you won't get a seven game series until the nlcs in the world series so every game here
00:16is crucial if you blow a game one and most likely you're going to lose that series um austin riley
00:21hit a three run homer in the eighth uh they were down three to two bottom of the eighth two
00:26outs
00:26austin riley hit one to right center it was a shot that was probably the best swing of his career
00:31and
00:31he's had some good moments and he won a world series so um for the phillies john like listen
00:37philadelphia used johan duran in the seventh and the eighth and uh obviously don mattingly defended
00:43that decision but uh we had mike jaglin and timothy parker saying wow phillies are going to come out
00:51and you know whoop the braves and they're gonna this is a different phillies team and i just gotta
00:57say man i just gotta say man philadelphia fans and philadelphia in general have had an amazing
01:04couple of days i'll tell you this i've had a successful philadelphia hate watch over the past
01:10couple days john it's been fantastic but for you like i guess i'll go like generally when you look
01:17at atlanta when you look at philadelphia i mean whoever comes out of the series they're going to
01:21play the dodgers next so we may have a if the phillies advance which looks kind of unlikely if
01:26they advance to play the dog we'll have a rematch of the nlds but braves dodgers we've had that
01:32multiple times over the past five six years like what chance do you give either of these teams to
01:37even make a deep playoff run because i feel like everyone john the sentiment is like well the cubs
01:42in that cubs padres series that is a very important series because i feel like one of those two teams
01:48can make a run but on that this side it's like well you're gonna run to the dodgers so i
01:54i this and
01:55this is from the last couple of years being being in san diego and watching a lot of padres games
02:00watching a padre dodgers game watching a lot of padres braves games the braves give the dodgers the
02:08most trouble of the teams remaining i think the dodgers was one game milwaukee i think that they
02:16would one game the padres i think that they would one game the phillies i think that for whatever
02:23reason i think the padres would sweep the braves but i think the atlanta braves for whatever reason
02:29they give the dodgers the most trouble and the padres have no trouble with the atlanta braves
02:37historically through the padres organization which isn't that storied when it comes to success
02:42so when we're talking about what happens next i don't know if the phillies have a chance against
02:50the dodgers i just haven't i i haven't seen that level of success from them in the regular season
02:55i haven't seen them necessarily hold up in a while they didn't necessarily finish the season on good
03:01footing they did not at all and the and the way that they lost tonight or yesterday or wherever
03:07you're watching this it didn't give you a lot of it didn't give you a lot of encouragement like the
03:13padres led off with a home run from fernando tatis jr so that they had two manny machado manny hit

03:19home run as well and so when you talk about bringing energy you get it's how you start these things

03:26and i don't think the phillies got off to a good start and and it just kind of feels like

03:31they were doing it's over this iteration of them it's over uh kyle would it be kyle swarber retiring
03:40and even the the trade deadline pickup being hurt really really hurt them because louisa rise was
03:47literally getting on base and causing havoc every time at bat he's a slap hitter he's not a home run
03:53hitter but having that bet out of their lineup affected them down the stretch as well because
03:57he was lights out for them when he got yeah so so now the phillies have to win twice in
04:01atlanta to
04:02save their season which you probably wouldn't bet on that uh you had chris sale basically on the
04:07ropes i mean he put runners on when he left the game and real muto hit that that double to
04:12kind of
04:12take the lead and after that you put your best guy in there to click to basically shut out this
04:17braves team and that didn't work so you went to your best options here and they still didn't come
04:23through now i'm not going to say that the phillies are buried there's still a chance for them to come
04:27back in the series but for me like momentum in the playoffs john you know this with the padres like
04:32momentum in the playoffs is literally everything i mean you yeah i mean you could have a worse team
04:39and you could go into a san diego like let's just say the cubs right the cubs are coming into
04:44san
04:44and that place i will say the padres have one of the best the best playoff home crowds that i've
04:51ever seen in my time watching baseball that place is a madhouse so you go into i don't care what
04:57your
04:58record is i don't care that the cubs have pca i don't care that the cubs have these pitchers i
05:02don't
05:03care that they're coming in hot you go into an environment like that and this team the padres now it's
05:08like okay we can start the season again it's so much different austin riley a guy that i've
05:14covered at roundtable i write about the braves at roundtable i've covered him for the the whole
05:18season he's a guy that struggled mightily all season he was this is the worst season of his
05:24career with last year as well and he comes in and he hits a three-run homer to give them
05:29the game one
05:29win it's like anything is possible and that's why john like for this phillies team and for for
05:34basically all of these teams and we're going to cover the the white socks and astros next which is
05:39one of the lower tier kind of matchups that we've been looking at but the braves can just get their
05:45momentum back just like that and i think that's something about the mlb playoffs that is kind of
05:50underrated it's like teams can just find it because it's like a brand new season it's like opening day
