00:11proponents chief nice Dan indigenous leadership local leadership thank you for coming together
00:18to make this happen this is a very big deal indeed
00:31now I want to recognize a few people who are very key to getting us here today but I also
00:39want to take
00:40a moment to reflect on what it means to have the partners that we have committing to phase two of
00:47this project in British Columbia and in Canada we have very high standards unapologetically workers
00:56have to be treated right indigenous partners need to be at the table we need to ensure that when we
01:03build a project like this that it has world-leading environmental standards and there has to be a fair
01:09return to Canadians and to British Columbians I had the opportunity to visit each of the proponents in
01:19their home countries in China in Korea in Malaysia in Japan now well you came to British Columbia thanks
01:28for that and when we talked about this project we talked about those goals those priorities those
01:38ideals that we have as British Columbians Canadians every one of the proponents shared those goals
01:46every one of the proponents wanted to realize that as well for their own people in their own home
01:52countries but also for British Columbia and for Canada and Chris I will say Chris Cooper
02:03you're being too modest the facility that has been built phase one
02:11and what will soon be phase two thanks to today's decision will have a 30 percent 30 percent better
02:21carbon emissions profile than the best performing LNG facilities in the world it will have a 60 percent
02:28lower carbon pollution methane emission rate than the average LNG facility in the world
02:36I went up there to Kitimat and I met with the workers who are working on phase one and they
02:43just had one
02:43question for me it's like can we get phase two guaranteed so that I can ensure that I have this
02:53high-paying job for my family and for my community and those workers were from every part of Canada this
03:02project means four thousand in just the phase two project four thousand high paid jobs it doesn't
03:10talk about all the ancillary jobs that come with that it means 28 billion dollars over the life of the
03:18project in revenue for governments to pay for the services that people depend on it means we are
03:25leading the way in the world in low carbon energy solutions and you can see with our partners that
03:33we are deepening our trade relationships around the world at a time when that is more important than
03:38ever for Canada thank you partners for helping us create the stable environment to make this possible
03:47thank you for all of us coming together to deliver this and I want to specifically recognize the Prime Minister
03:55and this is ever so slightly political I apologize but there was a step change in the approach of the
04:03federal government to this project when this Prime Minister came on board there was a marked departure an
04:10understanding of the importance of this project for British Columbia and Canada and Mark I want to thank
04:15you for referring this to the major projects office I want to thank you for giving this project the
04:20attention it deserved because it will change lives for the better here and around the world was stable
04:25reliable predictable low-carbon Canadian energy and finally I want to thank two people very specifically
04:34and and with great gratitude first of all to my colleague Megan Sully who did not sign up to be
04:43the lead
04:44hand in our government to help deliver this project and Bob Krieger who worked with all the proponents in
04:51Shell and were on the ground and of course Chris to you and your team for grinding this out it
04:58is the
04:59people behind the scenes the people who worked hand-in-hand to deliver this every day who worked late
05:04hours got this across the line but it is all of us that are creating the stable predictable investment platform
05:11here in British Columbia and in Canada to respond to the challenges we face at home and abroad you
