'ALL OF OUR EVIDENCE ARE STRONG'

House prosecution lead panel Atty. Gerville Luistro said during a press briefing on Thursday, Oct. 1, that former senator Antonio Trillanes IV initiated the withdrawal of his name from the list of witnesses the prosecution plans to present for Article II of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.

Luistro said Trillanes’ withdrawal will not affect the prosecution’s strategy for Article II, expressing confidence in the strength of their evidence. (Video courtesy of House of Representatives)

00:00It was intimated to the team, to the prosecution team, of the decision of the former senator to withdraw his
00:11name among the list of witnesses for the prosecution.
00:15That is all. And if you wish to have to know further details, perhaps it would be best to ask
00:24former senator Trillianes.
00:26Sorry for asking for details, but what time did the senator Trillianes tell the prosecution that he's dropping?
00:35Perhaps it would be best if it would be senator Trillianes who would be intimating all these circumstances surrounding the
00:43manifestation earlier.
00:45So it's a final decision that the prosecution will not present him in any of the articles?
00:51It is a final decision.
00:52Okay. How would you account for the surprise of some of the prosecutors that when you announced, and then we
01:00checked right after, some may not be surprised that there was such an announcement?
01:08Well, the truth of the matter is, there has been a continuing discussion on that.
01:15Kanina lang talaga na finalize.
01:17So perhaps if indeed na-surprised sila, they were surprised na may final decision na.
01:23But there has been a long discussion already whether to present or not to present,
01:27considering the number of witnesses still remaining,
01:30and the voluminous records we need to present in support of unexplained wealth.
01:36Would that not speak of maybe the way the prosecution panel comes with a decision,
01:44in terms of maybe laying out the evidence and the direction of your case?
01:49As I have said, no, it has been part of the long discussions already,
01:56except that the finalization happened only recently.
02:00And that's because mainly si senator na yung malis?
02:04Well, it was him who initiated the withdrawal of his name.
02:09I mean, you can tell me that I should ask him tomorrow, but what did he tell you?
02:14If you remember, he has been part of the motion for issuance of subpena.
02:19Yeah.
02:20He has been part of the pretrial brief, no?
02:23So the possibility is always there to present,
02:27while we acknowledge that there has been a lot of discussions whether to pursue on his presentation, no?
02:34So kanina, it was him who initiated the withdrawal of his name, and that's it.
02:40No effect on the strength of Article 2?
02:43There is none.
02:44Because?
02:45Because?
02:46Because all our evidence are strong.
