00:00The third pass is solid, but it added a skull to the pouch and some details he did not ask
00:04for.
00:05He paints those out.
00:06The design is king.
00:07AI can generate generic stuff all day, but that's not what we're doing here.
00:11AI is one of the hottest button issues to hit the entertainment industry in years.
00:16And many players are more than comfortable letting studios know they want no part of it in their games.
00:22Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at games that got a ton of criticism for using generative AI.
00:28This isn't about glory or money or making the world a better place.
00:35This is a puzzle buried in centuries of silence.
00:40But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long.
00:44So be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:49Jurassic World Evolution 3
00:52It's well adapted for chasing down prey and biting down hard with those terrifying blade-like teeth.
00:58An amazing addition to this site.
01:00The Jurassic World Evolution series is as cozy as things can get at Jurassic Park,
01:06tasking players with designing and managing their own dinosaur-filled amusement park.
01:10The series has amassed quite the strong following,
01:13who were pretty disappointed to learn about the developers' use of generative AI
01:17following the third game's announcement.
01:26Thankfully, it was used for something small, scientist portraits to be specific.
01:30So when a thread of angry fans appeared on Steam,
01:33developer and publisher Frontier Developments addressed them directly,
01:37thanked them for the feedback,
01:38and announced the removal of AI assets prior to the game's launch.
01:42This resolved the issue, and the game had a successful release,
01:46showing the importance of letting studios know if you don't want generative AI in games.
01:57Crazy Taxi World Tour
02:05There was a lot of excitement when Sega announced a revival for the Crazy Taxi series.
02:11Although, for some players, a bit of that excitement went away
02:14when its Steam page went up after World Tour's announcement,
02:17with a disclosure of generative AI use.
02:25In response to the backlash,
02:27Sega released a statement saying it was used to develop background assets
02:31and that everything was still subject to developer review.
02:34Series creator Kenji Kano later clarified that it was used to create concept art
02:39as reference for the team's artists,
02:41but that everything in the game would be wholly original.
02:44Crazy Taxi World Tour releases in 2027,
02:48so it remains to be seen if Sega's use of generative AI,
02:51regardless of what step of development it was used in,
02:54will affect it.
02:55Whoa!
02:56Thought you were just some weird flying squirrel dude,
02:58but that's pretty cool!
03:00Okay, hop in!
03:01Anno 117 Pax Romana
03:08Time's worth ours.
03:10Perhaps no longer.
03:11Ubisoft has had so many controversies these past few years,
03:15it can be hard to keep track sometimes.
03:17Nevertheless, the use of AI in Anno 117
03:21definitely didn't slip by unnoticed or unscathed.
03:25Not long after launch,
03:26players noticed a particular loading screen of a banquet
03:29that featured telltale signs of AI generation,
03:32like warped faces in the background.
03:36Kissin' me cheeks?
03:37I like it.
03:38In response to the discovery and negativity,
03:41Ubisoft stated the image had slipped past their review process,
03:44and would be replaced in a patch.
03:46It also stated that,
03:48while Pax Romana had the largest team of artists for the franchise,
03:52AI tools were used for iterations,
03:55prototyping,
03:56and exploration.
03:57Although the image was replaced,
03:59the knowledge of AI use during development
04:01was still disheartening to many.
04:07Another creeping, crawling lot of excuses.
04:10Stellar Blade, Blood Rain.
04:22Blood Rain was already bound to draw up controversy,
04:26much like its predecessor.
04:27Though this time,
04:28the backlash comes from something other
04:30than its baby-faced, overly-sexualized protagonist.
04:33A few months after the game's announcement,
04:35Shift Up released a music video featuring Evie
04:38as a marketing stunt,
04:39all of which,
04:40from its animation to the song,
04:42was AI-generated.
04:49To say it was ill-received would be an understatement.
04:53From the YouTube comment sections
04:55to the online publications that covered it,
04:57the video was met with immediate distaste.
05:00Although it has yet to be confirmed
05:02if the game itself uses generative AI,
05:05Shift Up CEO Kim Hyun-tae
05:07has been vocally supportive of it in the past,
05:10and this was not a good sign to players.
05:16Vapor World Over The Mind
05:29This dark, souls-like platformer
05:32comes from a small team
05:33that sadly cut some corners by using AI,
05:35which forever affected their game's reputation.
05:38Early cut scenes in Vapor World
05:40were very clearly AI-generated,
05:43causing a flood of players
05:44to leave negative reviews on Steam
05:46due to their low quality.
05:47You really believe can save anyone now?
05:54It's far too late.
05:57The director responded and apologized,
05:59stating he hastily replaced
06:01the original scenes with AI
06:03because he felt they weren't detailed enough
06:05to bring out the protagonist's emotions.
06:07The cut scenes were replaced,
06:09but some players still took issue
06:11with the AI-based text-to-speech tools
06:14that are used to generate
06:15the main character's voiceover.
06:17As of writing,
06:18the game still has an AI disclosure on Steam,
06:20where it holds a mixed rating.
06:23Was it...
06:25a dream?
06:26Ark Raiders
06:36The launch of Embark Studios'
06:38extraction shooter
06:39was mostly surrounded with excitement,
06:41but it became subject to some controversy
06:44for using AI text-to-speech tools
06:46for NPC lines.
06:48People were expectedly upset,
06:50prompting Embark to respond
06:51and clarify that the text-to-speech
06:53came from contracted voice actors,
06:55so still paid,
06:56and that AI was used to save time
06:59since they were a smaller team.
07:09Embark's parent company, Nexon,
07:12also responded,
07:13stating we should assume
07:14that every studio is using AI these days,
07:17which obviously didn't go over well either.
07:20Although some AI voice lines
07:21have since been removed,
07:22the game retains an AI disclosure on Steam.
07:25Interestingly, Embark ran into a similar controversy,
07:28also for using an AI text-to-speech program
07:31in its previous game,
07:33The Finals.
07:34Let's watch our contestants hustle,
07:36gather, and triumph in Quick Cash.
07:39It's all about who can keep their cool
07:40in this high-pressure situation, Scotty.
07:43Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis
07:55As much as the return of Tomb Raider
07:58should be celebrated,
07:59a lot of fans were shocked and disappointed
08:01to learn that Legacy of Atlantis,
08:03the upcoming remake of the first game,
08:05is being partially made with AI tools.
08:08Following a state-of-play appearance
08:10in June of 2026,
08:12the game's Steam page was updated
08:13with a disclaimer,
08:15stating AI was used for,
08:17"...early exploration and temporary development content."
08:20End quote.
08:21But that all assets were either replaced
08:23or refined by humans.
08:35Jeff Adams,
08:37experience director at developer Crystal Dynamics,
08:39tried to clarify when questioned by Game Informer,
08:42stating that all content in the final game
08:44was human-crafted.
08:46But, when asked about AI-generated assets
08:49entering the actual game engine,
08:51Adams was interrupted by a PR rep,
08:53who refused to speak any more on it.
08:55How much actual AI content is in the game
08:58and how its use will affect its commercial
09:00and critical performance
09:01will have to wait until 2027.

09:24Panache Digital's gothic adventure
09:27follows a witch hunting demons
09:28who hide under the guise of regular humans.
09:31While the concept and world are interesting,
09:34its playable prologue and early access release
09:36have received mixed reception
09:37due to a variety of factors,
09:39including the use of AI.
09:41Backlash to the prologue's AI assets
09:44and marketing when it dropped in June 2026
09:46was fierce.
09:48Doesn't hurt to try.
09:50This prompted an apology from the studio
09:52and an assurance that AI would not be present
09:55in the early access and final release versions.
09:58A few months later,
10:00studio co-founder Patrice Dizile
10:02stated AI tools were still being used in development,
10:05though less and less,
10:06but that no AI assets were in the game.
10:08Reception to its early access release
10:10has been mixed,
10:12though that's not exactly surprising.
10:22Call of Duty Black Ops 7
10:33Some franchises are so big
10:36they can be hit by multiple controversies,
10:38AI or otherwise,
10:39and keep on trucking.
10:41Call of Duty is one of them.
10:43Despite being one of gaming's tallest giants,
10:45with multiple studios working on each yearly entry,
10:48AI-generated content crept its way
10:51into Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 6
10:53in the form of cosmetics and loading screens.
10:56The latest game as of writing,
10:58Black Ops 7,
10:58has been caught with even more AI content,
11:01namely player nameplates and multiplayer icons.
11:04The game was criticized for a number of other elements,
11:07including its poor campaign,
11:09but there's no denying that the increase in AI-generated content
11:13has been another in a long line of disappointments for fans.
11:16Enemy drone pod spying!
11:18I'm getting calls from some very happy shareholders.
11:22Black Ops met their match today.

11:49Fortnite
11:58Fortnite is one of the most financially successful video games of all time.
12:03But in March of 2026,
12:05Epic Games laid off more than 1,000 employees,
12:09citing financial losses due to a decrease in player engagement
12:12and wider industry challenges like slower console sales.
12:16At the time,
12:17CEO Tim Sweeney stated the layoffs were not related to AI.
12:22But in June,
12:23Epic uploaded a video showing how AI is used by the team's artists.
12:27Swap out Meow Skulls for her Cloud9 style,
12:30test the POI at different times of day,
12:33even run a meteor shower and see how it plays at this location.
12:35From character designs to location layouts,
12:39an artist begins with a sketch,
12:40uses an AI program to create a 3D model,
12:43and then refines it.
12:45This was met with a lot of ridicule,
12:48with many pointing out the artist having to fix the AI's mistakes
12:51when designing a character.
12:53This confirmation coming so soon after widespread layoffs,
12:56of course,
12:57made this feel even worse.
12:59We hope you enjoyed a behind-the-scenes peek at our creative process.
13:02Does AI affect what games you play?
13:05Did you give up on any of these because of it?
13:08Share your thoughts in the comments,
13:09and we will see you next time.
