00:00Yeah, Granny, what do you got?
00:01We got another super chat on the YouTube chat.
00:03Thomas Call says zero sacks, zero interceptions, zero fumbles,
00:08one penalty for five yards.
00:10How many NFL teams did that yesterday?
00:12Yeah, none.
00:13Well, one.
00:13Well, the Niners.
00:14Yeah, none other.
00:16Is that Tommy Call, the legend?
00:18Yeah, I don't know.
00:19It says Thomas Call.
00:20Okay.
00:20Maybe.
00:20I'll do the homework.
00:22Shout out Tommy.
00:23I mean, to a degree,
00:24that's how I'd answer the Brock Purdy question that we were asking.
00:27Did he have a good game yesterday?
00:29Some people will go, well, the stats aren't great.
00:31Well, actually, I beg to differ.
00:33Does a quarterback rating of 107.4 sound good?
00:37Because it's amazing.
00:39That's average for him.
00:39I mean, no.
00:41It's about his career average.
00:43Exactly.
00:43But it's actually an incredible rating.
00:45And if you want to do stats, that covers everything.
00:50Sure, 56-yard screen pass is in there as well.
00:53But that was his QB rating yesterday.
00:56If you like that stat, actually, his QB rating yesterday was higher than the game in Australia.
01:03For what it's worth.
01:04And if that's not worth everything to you, then that's fine.
01:07But I think what the super chat from Tommy is saying, to me, is how I would answer that question.
01:14If you think Brock Purdy didn't have a good game yesterday, then A, you're doing a little bit too much
01:20in the fantasy football statistic world.
01:23Or B, you're not really kind of giving credit for what was unfolding.
01:28All of the things.
01:30Denver is a very aggressive, good defense.
01:33This game had a certain vibe to it in the first half.
01:36You heard Kyle say we wanted to run the ball a lot.
01:39They did.
01:40Sometimes, I think, to our chagrin, we were upset about it.
01:44Fourth and a yard and a half.
01:45Let's do a sneak.
01:45I don't think he really gave Brock Purdy that much of an opportunity to let it rip in the first
01:51half.
01:51And then I also think, with so much attrition at the receiver position, for example, there was a third down
01:57play in the first half where he threw for Jacob Cowling and he missed him to the left.
02:02And I watched that play over and over.
02:04And I'll never know if Purdy threw it the wrong way or if Jacob went the wrong way.
02:09But Jacob turned left and Brock threw right.
02:12And I would imagine that that just comes from a lack of chemistry because Cowling is how many receivers down
02:19the list before you get to Cowling as far as who the guys Brock is working with through training camp
02:25and whatnot.
02:26And that's a great breakdown because if you go back and look at that play, as I have now a
02:30few times, they rushed three, which means they're dropping eight.
02:33So it's basically an eight-man zone.
02:35And when you're playing an eight-man zone, you are relying on the quarterback and the receiver being on the
02:39same page as far as where's the soft spot and where can I throw it?
02:43And so Brock finally decides that he's going to Cowling and, you know, Cowling maybe should have slid right.
02:48Or if Brock would have been throwing to, I don't know, Debo or Evans, maybe they would have been more
02:53on the same page.
02:54And so that was when I looked at and thought, you know what?
02:56The defense, you rush three and, you know, Brock Purdy's standing there like basically holding the ball because he's got
03:02no one open.
03:03Right, and we don't know this because we're just sitting on couches watching, but you hear through the years from
03:10quarterbacks how often they're not throwing to receivers, they're throwing to spots.
03:14You throw to a spot, and there's anticipation and vision and intuition and then chemistry.
03:21And certain receivers, right, like a Mike Evans, I bet is like, I'm going to get to the top of
03:27my route, and I know where the soft spot is in this zone,
03:30and I'm going to bet that's where Brock's going to throw it.
03:33And maybe Cowling doesn't do that.
03:35And Brock throws a seed, but it just flies through everybody and goes to the sideline, and everyone's like, ooh,
03:40Brock's kind of off.
03:41Maybe, I don't know, maybe Cowling did the right thing.
03:44But Cowling turned toward the defender.
03:46Brock threw away from the defender.
03:48I'm betting that Brock was like, no, dude, go over there because that's where the defender isn't,
03:54and we're trying to not throw picks out here.
03:56So anyway, just nuance of it all.
03:58And he also had that same situation with Mike Evans in the first half from the five-yard line
04:03when they had to settle for their first field goal to tie the game.
04:06Evans was running across the end zone, and it looked like Brock was hoping that he was going to stop
04:11as opposed to keep going, and so Brock was under pressure.
04:15McKivitt got beat, and Brock just threw it to, again, the safe side, a spot,
04:19and Evans was unable to stop and go back and get it.
04:22I mean, he missed him, but you're right.
04:24Like, I mean, a lot of this is just these guys, it's like they're nonverbal communication with one another.
04:30Let's go to Dave in Oakland.
04:31Hi, Dave.
04:32Thanks for calling.
04:33What's up?
04:34Hey, Willard and Dibbs.
04:36Listen to you guys.
04:37Love you guys.
04:38You know, the Niners, just plain and simple, they finished that game.
04:42You know, they stuck with it, and none of these games are going to get any easier.
04:45They're not going to get comfortable, and you've got to finish them,
04:48and that's what they did versus, like, what the Raiders did.
04:51They hung in with the Chiefs, but, boy, they kind of collapsed with that, you know,
04:56that turnover and everything, you know, and then they let them get that touchdown, you know,
05:00so it really comes down to just, you know, finishing it off, you know.
05:05But, hey, Dibbs, the reason I called is, what is this Johnny on the spot?
05:09What, did you have a blue plate special for dinner last night or some chipped beef on toast?
05:14We've got to get a lexicon for you, man.
05:16I'll take my clap back on the wave.
05:17Okay, yeah, first of all, it was not I who threw out the phrase.
05:23Even though I, Johnny on the spot, I am aware of it.
05:26I did the research, and it is 19th century, so it's not a boomer phrase.
05:30It's actually before the great generation.
05:32I'm not going to let my partner take the brunt of the blow on this one.
05:37That was me, Dave.
05:38That was not the Dibbers.
05:40That was me.
05:42And, again, it just came out.
05:46I stood at Kalon Black, had a booty ball that flew at him, and he grabbed it,
05:50and he ran for a first down on fourth down, and I was like, yeah, Johnny on the spot.
05:55And my daughter was like, eh, eh, eh.
05:57Who?
05:57Who on the what?
05:58Like, eh, Dad.
06:00What's that?
06:01And I'm like, you don't know Johnny on the spot?
06:04I'm not sitting here thinking it's like the coolest phrase, but I thought people knew it.
06:08Right.
06:09I'm with you.
06:10Yeah.
06:11Apparently not.
06:12Yeah.
06:12So I guess you've got to retire that one along with so much more of our material.
06:19Injury updates that I want to give to you, by the way.
06:23The three that we were worried about yesterday.
06:25Varying degrees of excitement or optimism, if you will.
06:29You've probably heard Kyle Juszczyk.
06:31It's a bruise and a hyperextension, and he'll miss two to three weeks.
06:35That doesn't sound great.
06:37I think that's great.
06:38I think that's as good as the news could have been on Jusz.
06:42Upton Stout, AC joint issue shoulder day to day.
06:46That's one of those that I know you can take maybe a pain-killing injection
06:50and possibly get back out there.
06:53Also has a high rate of re-aggravation.
06:55This is what DJ Moore's been going through with the Bills,
06:58but I think that's relatively positive.
07:01Marquis Siegel, this one's a little bit of a bummer.
07:04He's going to miss some time.
07:05That's another high ankle sprain.
07:07As we know, those usually range somewhere in the neighborhood of a month.
07:10Yeah, four to six weeks, it seems.
07:12But that is, I mean, that's good news on the surface.
07:15And I think if it's juice and you look at the knee sprain,
07:19and it's going to be one, maybe two.
07:21If it's going to be three, then you go ahead and hold them out
07:24because then you have the bye, so you make it four,
07:26and you bring them back fresher off the bye.
07:28And I do think being 4-0 gives you a little bit more patience,
07:32a little more wiggle room.
07:33If you split the next two, let's just say, and you're 5-1,
07:38maybe you're 6-0, then I think you can start to be a little bit more cautious.
07:42I agree with you.
07:43Right now, I don't know what kind of mentality you want to label this as,
07:48but to me, I think the baseline going into the bye,
07:53the Vegas sort of over-under, if you will, is 6-1.
07:58You're at Seattle, you're back here for Washington on a Monday night,
08:01and then you do something I'm not going to underrate,
08:04which is you've got a short week and a cross-country trip to go play Atlanta,
08:08and we're still trying to figure out who the hell Atlanta is,
08:11and missing people on the defensive line going against Bijan is no joke,
08:15but the 49ers are going to be favored, and they are the better team.
08:19But we'll see.
08:20We'll see if there's a loss in there somewhere,
08:22but I feel like that's the baseline is to get to the bye at 6-1.
08:27I think so.
08:28I mean, if you set it at 5-1 win total going into the bye,
08:32the over-under at 5-1, you probably would take the over.
08:34You'd have to, like, juice it to where you could get people to think about the under
08:39because, you know, you go into those games,
08:42the commanders are still trying to figure out life after losing Jaden Daniels,
08:46and I do think the Atlanta spot is a tricky one,
08:49but all eyes on Seattle on Sunday.
08:52Let's go to Jan in Mountain View.
08:54Hi, Jan.
08:55Thanks for calling.
08:58Yes, I know it's been quite a while.
09:00I've been on injured reserve myself.
09:03I have some surgery, so I haven't been around.
09:06No, we know.
09:07How are you doing, Jan?
09:09How are you feeling?
09:11I'm feeling much better.
09:13I took a fall and ended up in surgery, but I'm okay now.
09:20I'm doing PT now, and I'm going to be back on that comeback trail just like the Niners.
09:27Let's go, Jan.
09:27I want to give Purdy his props because I'll tell you he's playing so much better than he has in
09:36the past two to three years,
09:37and he's getting rid of the ball faster, and he's not turning the ball over.
09:44And as you can see that he hasn't, you know, he's had the protection, and he only threw that one
09:54pick down in Australia.
09:56And that one, I'm giving him a pass.
10:02And confounded, he's been playing lights out and trying to bring this team back and trying to win the game.
10:11And also, I'm glad to hear that Juszczyk is okay.
10:18I thought I was going to have a heart attack this morning because I was thinking it was an ACL.
10:23So thank goodness for a hyperextension.
10:27That's so much better than what I thought it was originally.
10:32And then shout out to my Valkyries for winning that game yesterday against the Ace because I was kind of
10:42worried that they were not going to win that game.
10:44But they found a way to pull it out, even though it was on the same time as the Niner
10:50game.
10:51But I'm, you know, I hope that what I heard yesterday was when they've been starting out as 4-0,
11:01they've ended up in the playoffs.
11:03So, you know, even if they don't make it to the Super Bowl, I plan on them to be in
11:10the playoffs.
11:11So go Niners, go Valkyries.
11:13Thank you very much.
11:14Love it. You keep healing, Jan.
11:16Thank you so much for calling.
11:20Actually, under Kyle Shanahan, both other times that the 49ers have started 4-0, they have gone to the Super
11:26Bowl both times.
11:27Okay.
11:27So.
11:28No pressure.
11:28No pressure.
11:29Super Bowl or bust.
11:30Yes.
11:30It's what they do.
11:31And if you want to look at just the anatomy through four games of why we think that they are
11:37the best team in football,
11:38they're number one in yards per play on offense.
11:41They're number three in yards per play against on defense.
11:44They are second-fewest amount of penalties that they have committed in all of football, and they have two turnovers.
11:52So you can.
11:53Two turnovers, and one of them is just because somebody didn't, like, was on the ground and didn't see the
11:58ball hit his foot.
11:59Yep.
11:59Yep.
11:59I mean, it's just.
12:00And then the breaks.
12:01The Lions have one turnover.
12:02The Jets have one turnover.
12:04And then you get to the Niners with two, the Commanders with two, et cetera.
12:08So you don't commit penalties, which means, you know, a three-yard gain on first down is actually going to
12:14be pretty cool
12:14because you're not holding, you're not jumping, you know, false start and all the rest of it.
12:18You don't commit penalties.
12:19You don't turn it over.
12:21You can move it on offense, and you mostly stop it on defense.
12:24You're amazing in the red zone, and you're great on third down.
12:27You're 4-0.
12:28That's how that goes.
12:29And you lead the NFL in point differential.
12:31Right.
12:31By a somewhat significant margin.
12:34Yeah.
12:35So, again, like, I don't want to hear tap the brakes, push the brakes, slam the brakes.
12:43Like, I just, that's all.
12:45I don't feel that right now.
12:47If you do great, to me, that's sort of a fearful way of looking at it.
12:51I understand the PTSD of life.
12:53I really do.
12:55But this is not about I think the Niners are going to win it all.
12:59This is about, we are now in early October, and as somebody who watches good portions of every football game
13:09in the NFL,
13:10the 49ers right now are the best team.
13:13That's what they look like to me.
13:15Easily, easily the most balanced team.
13:18That's where I really think this comes from.
13:21Minnesota's got a great defense.
13:23Their offense is hot garbage.
13:25The Chiefs are really scary on offense.
13:28This Kenneth Walker addition is really going to end up, the league should probably be mad at the Seahawks.
13:35Boy, you screwed that one up because now the Chiefs, they can do it a bunch of different ways.
13:39But their defense is clearly nothing special.
13:42People are scoring on them in bunches.
13:45I feel the same way about the Bills, even though they lost a football game yesterday.
13:48The Jags have lost a football game, but I think they're really good.
13:51And they are pretty balanced, but the 49ers, for my eye, are like clearly the most balanced team in football.
14:00All of this can change based on the availability of star players for all of these teams.
14:07But that's how I see it right now.
14:09The Niners have been given a bunch of different assignments.
14:11They've passed them all.
14:12I think we are officially, like I really don't want to do the whole, but who have they played?
14:17Like, stop.
14:19Stop.
14:19They've now beaten two of last year's final four teams.
14:24These are talented teams with big-time coaches and big-time quarterbacks in different scenarios and whatnot.
14:31Sure, the Dolphins and Cardinals don't offer a whole hell of a lot.
14:34But look, they're 4-0.
14:36You just mentioned all those metrics.
14:38They're 2-0 in their division.
14:40They've done it, you know, in a different country.
14:43I don't know.
14:44Like, sure, they haven't really taken on a road, a traditional road game yet.
14:51That would be the one thing I guess I would point to.
14:54They'll get that this weekend the biggest way that you can.
14:57Let's see how they handle it.
14:59But that's my view right now.
15:0149ers in this moment are the best team in football.
15:03Of all the teams you just mentioned in that, and you mentioned Minnesota's offense being hot garbage,
15:07well, they're 32nd in yards per play.
15:10However, they've only turned it over twice.
15:13And Kansas City, they've turned it over twice.
15:15And the Niners, they've turned it over twice.
15:17And so you can see some through lines.
15:19Even though Minnesota's 32nd, the Niners are third.
15:22I'm sorry, they're first in yards per play.
15:25You can still win if you don't give the other team the football.
15:29And Kansas City is interesting because Kenneth Walker III on the short list of MVP through four games
15:35because they can actually run the ball now, which gives their defense, which is mediocre.
15:39It's mid.
15:40It gives them a chance.
15:42And Kansas City, similarly, they don't turn the ball over either.
15:46So all those teams, Jacksonville, they have two turnovers all year.
15:49Trevor Lawrence has always been the, I'm going to give you one guy,
15:52and he's not throwing the picks anymore.
15:54So the teams that aren't turning the ball over are mostly the teams that are doing well.
16:00Have you checked the Kalshi NFL MVP percentages as of today?
16:10No.
16:10Where do you think Mr. Purdy sits in this conversation?
16:15He's probably second on the list, I would imagine.
16:18Behind?
16:19Josh Allen.
16:20Las Vegas.
16:22Sorry, it almost came out like that.
16:24You're, uh...
16:26Las Vegas.
16:27You are accurate.
16:28You are accurate.
16:30Josh Allen right now trading at 22%, the favorite.
16:33Brock Purdy is second at 19%.
16:35And then you've got to jump all the way down to 11% where you'll find Lamar and Patrick.
16:40It's interesting that you mentioned Kenneth Walker.
16:43Problem for Walker, similar with McCaffrey, is the quarterback with whom he plays.
16:50Kenneth Walker is down in a massive group of NFL players at less than 1%.
16:56Um, so, yeah, he's been awesome.
16:59He's changed the Chiefs.
17:01No question in my mind.
17:03Um, but, yeah, right now, uh, the MVP race, the only people who are really tracking as potentially in this,
17:12Josh Allen, Brock Purdy, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, Trevor Lawrence.
17:17That's pretty much the list in the moment.
17:19Others can cross the party, but that's the list right now of people who have significant numbers in their direction.
17:25And if you're a running back, to win it, you have to do something extraordinary.
17:28More than 2,000 yards or more than 20 touchdowns.
17:31You have to do something that hasn't really been seen in recent days.
17:35Any guesses on who the top non-quarterback is on the board?
17:39Maybe Jackson Smith and Jigba?
17:41Ah, no.
17:42No.
17:42It's actually Jameer Gibbs.
17:44The Mitsubishi.
17:44Yeah, the non- plut berat.
17:44Well this really, I guess we're a last time.
17:44You simply бел a couple of this.
