00:00I learned one thing this past week, and that is that the face of the Chicago Bears is not Caleb
00:08Williams.
00:09It's Ben Johnson.
00:10Look, and this is no disrespect to Caleb Williams, who I think, without a doubt, is trending up and being
00:19truly one of the best quarterbacks in this league.
00:21And I'm not saying that.
00:22But look, let's not forget, Bill Belichick was fired in Cleveland before he got Tom Brady.
00:28Andy Reid didn't win anything substantial when he was in Philadelphia until he got Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
00:36Every single great head coach is always tied in, outside of Joe Gibbs, to a great quarterback.
00:45Ben Johnson, man, he's making a point of it.
00:48Backup quarterbacks, backup running backs, they end up benching DeAndre Swift in his last game, and they still run for
00:57200 yards.
00:59I'm looking at, in my opinion right now, Ben Johnson as a modern-day Bill Walsh.
01:06The only thing he needs is to put that cherry on top of this cake and get that Super Bowl
01:12championship.
01:13The Chicago Bears, everything that they wanted in a head coach, culture change.
01:18The culture change itself in Chicago.
01:22Do you know that the Chicago Bears have never had a 4,000-yard passing quarterback in the history of
01:29their franchise?
01:30They've never really had a quarterback up there in the last 65 years since Sid Gilliam.
01:37They haven't had an all-pro quarterback since the 1950s.
01:44So when you get a coach like this, and let's not forget, when this guy's name came up for coaching
01:50opportunities,
01:51and he was the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, every single team was trying to interview this guy
01:59because they were looking for the next Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan, and he is this guy.
02:06He's proved a point to me, whether it's a backup quarterback, whether it's a backup running back.
02:13What they're doing right now, they have the number one offense in all of pro football.
02:20They're averaging 190-plus yards in rushing.
02:25Again, you're talking about culture change.
02:28Look, the Chicago Bears on defense, they're nothing really to look at.
02:32But what does he do?
02:33He goes out and says, let me get the best D coordinator I can possibly find.
02:37He goes out and gets Dennis Allen.
02:39By the way, right now the Bears are third in defense.
02:43They've completely changed the culture in Chicago.
02:47You know, they have been flopping around for about 15 years looking for the right combination,
02:52and now they've found it.
02:54Look, I think coaching in the NFL is more important than it's ever been before
02:59because of the turnover you get with free agency.
03:02Look at the Jets, and now look at the Giants.
03:05It's a great example.
03:07The Jets just wallow around looking for a coach.
03:11Can't find a quarterback.
03:12Can't find a coach.
03:14Look at what the Giants do.
03:16They finally get out of that Dave Gettleman crap
03:19and also that whole scenario with looking for particular quarterbacks,
03:23and what do they do?
03:24They land on John Harbaugh.
03:25John Harbaugh now has piecemealed a 3-1 record.
03:29That's coaching.
03:31Backups.
03:32You lose Brian Burns.
03:33Coaching in the NFL matters.
03:36Putting a culture together.
03:37Putting a roster together.
03:39Having that general manager and that head coach working in sync
03:42to change the fortunes of what has gone on.
03:45Look at the New York.
03:46I mean, like I said, the New York Giants the last decade.
03:48Hey, ever since Jerry Reese and Tom Coughlin left that building,
03:52it's been a train wreck with the Giants.
03:54Now they got a coach in the building.
03:57Now you got a coach in Chicago.
03:59He just might be, in my opinion, he is, the best head coach in pro football.
04:05And that includes Andy Reid.
04:06I think Andy Reid, without a doubt, he's one of the great play callers
04:10and play designers that we've seen in NFL history.
04:14And his record indicates that.
04:16But when you talk about a guy who just goes out there and can take backups,
04:21and you get the same performance, it doesn't matter who the running back is.
04:25It doesn't matter who the quarterback is.
04:28We're going to tee it up and go play 60.
04:32He is right now tied as the favorite to win the coach of the year,
04:39along with Clint Kubiak, who's doing a great job in Las Vegas.
04:44Dude, Ben Johnson, all the things that were said.
04:47Remember when he was interviewed for the Washington commander job?
04:51And he wanted 14 million bucks?
04:53And the commander said, you know what?
04:55We're going to land on Dan Quinn.
04:57You might want that back there, guy.
05:00Hey, Josh Harris, I know you're good at trying to get stadiums and arenas,
05:04but you might want to try to build a championship football team.
05:08Big swing and miss there in Washington.
05:11You could have Ben Johnson in the building,
05:13but you didn't want to pay for the freight.
05:15Investing in a coach.
05:17That's why Chicago is where they are right now.
05:20Chicago, in my opinion,
05:22has a great shot to get to the NFC championship game.
