Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase kick things off on Wednesday morning by discussing the Sabres impressive 3-2 OT win over the Minnesota Wild. The guys praise the Sabres perseverance and improvement after a shaky opening two games. They discuss how the Sabres didn’t look great in their first two matchups where the game against the Wild looked much more like a playoff game. They also take a call from regular caller Paul from Buffalo who shares his thoughts on the game!

00:00Jeremy and Joe, good morning everybody. Big win for the Sabres on a Tuesday night in October.
00:06Yeah. Loved it. It was a great time. Owen Power arrives if he hadn't already arrived in the playoffs last
00:13year, the Montreal series.
00:14He was incredible. And in this game, probably the best game of his life. Could anyone say that?
00:20I think it was his best game as a Sabre. I don't know what second place would be. I mean,
00:25there were great games in the playoffs last year.
00:27Yeah, but a 78% goal share. I mean, I don't know if he did that at Michigan. He might
00:31have as the number one pick.
00:33But, I mean, absolutely controlled and dominated the game in a game with two of the best defensemen in the
00:38league also on the ice in Rasmus Dahlin and Quinn Hughes.
00:41Right. I want to say game six was one of those against Montreal. Or, excuse me, not game. Game seven,
00:47even.
00:48He's playing through a high ankle sprain that was a three- to six-week injury assisted on the game
00:52-tying goal that could have been a legendary goal.
00:55But, man, last night he just- that's the guy that was sold when he was picked number one overall.
01:01Not that he hasn't been good, I don't think, in the first couple years.
01:04But that is, oh, I'm dominating and dictating the pace of the game and I'm going to have the puck
01:10whenever I want to have the puck.
01:11I'm going to do whatever I want with the puck and you just can't take it from me.
01:15Like, that was- that was peak power.
01:18I'm also going to be paired with Rasmus Dahlin in the third period quite a bit.
01:22Yeah.
01:22They did that a lot. Ozone draws, a couple of those.
01:25Did some D-zone draws.
01:27Lindy, those two played a lot.
01:29Those 29 minutes for Powers, the final number, 29 minutes.
01:32Both of them were over 29.
01:34Yeah.
01:34So, leaning on those two quite a bit in a come-from-behind win.
01:39Two-nothing after two, they win it three-to-two in overtime.
01:42A couple stats for you here.
01:43I was looking into this because they are now two and one.
01:48And a solid start, right?
01:49They'll have a couple other tough games, Dallas coming up and Minnesota- no, so Dallas and Utah.
01:55Sorry.
01:56Western Conference.
01:56And then Florida, who just lost Brad Marchand, by the way.
01:59Yeah.
01:59Couldn't put any weight on the left leg.
02:01They are three games in, so call it 180 minutes played.
02:06I don't want to even include overtime, just regulation.
02:08Okay.
02:08180 overtime minutes played.
02:10They really are dominating five-on-five.
02:13Yes.
02:13They look very good at five-on-five.
02:15They have controlled play.
02:17They are, I believe, fourth in the league, maybe, in expected goals, depending on where
02:20you're looking.
02:21They have, however, only led for 12 minutes of the 180.
02:26Right.
02:27And maybe that's why, at two-nothing last night, I felt, again, panic.
02:33I was ready to panic.
02:34They are going to need a goal to go off a butt.
02:36And they kind of got something like that, the double bouncer that Oslin scores.
02:41It's a fortunate break to cut the lead in half and get back in it, and then from there,
02:45you know, you're off and running.
02:47But only leading 12 minutes out of 180.
02:49I don't think they've necessarily found their A game yet, but maybe this is their B game,
02:53where you're just controlling play and look pretty good.
02:57Because I didn't think they were playing poorly against Minnesota.
03:00I just kind of had the same feel I did against Columbus and a little against Chicago, which
03:04is, will there be enough finish in this team to win the way that we want them to?
03:10And they got it.
03:11Right.
03:11That would be all there is, and goaltending.
03:14But at the moment, even that goal that Oslin scores that goes off of his shin, do you get
03:22lucky?
03:22Yeah.
03:23Power's not trying to pass to him.
03:24He's trying to pass to Quinn.
03:25Yeah.
03:25And even that might have been a forced pass.
03:28But why are you in a position to get lucky there?
03:31Because you've controlled the puck in their zone for two and a half minutes straight.
03:36The odds of you getting a break like that are going to be way higher if you just have
03:40the puck the whole time.
03:41And so far, through three games, they have the puck more than anybody in the NHL.
03:48Like all the fancy numbers, expected goals through three games, they're number one in
03:51hockey.
03:52And I think that is a greater sign of how good they are than they have had to chase
03:59these games, which you don't want to go on living like that.
04:03I think if they play the way they have in these three games, they're not going to be chasing
04:06games that often.
04:07Yeah.
04:07It's maybe a coincidence that they've been chasing them, unless their goaltending gets
04:11them in positions where they're going to be chasing games.
04:13Now, you are, of course, in a spot where you've only played three teams, and it's tough
04:16to take sample size.
04:18And two of them are not very strong teams.
04:19No.
04:20Columbus and Chicago.
04:21Chicago is second worst in the league in puck possession, ahead of, I should say, only
04:26Philadelphia.
04:27And the Blue Jackets are eighth worst.
04:29So you've played two bottom ten teams in that department.
04:32But whatever.
04:33That is what you want to see.
04:34You know, expected goal share or shot share, whatever you want.
04:37But that's not last night.
04:38Minnesota is a great team.
04:41Won a playoff series last year.
04:42They were off to a great start in their first couple games, dominating their couple opponents.
04:47They're missing one guy that's really important.
04:49Like, Faber's got a scary skull fracture injury.
04:52But he's not on the ice last night.
04:55But everybody else was.
04:57So, Walstead's in net, and he's incredible.
04:59He was great.
05:00Like, you played a great team, and you outplayed them.
05:03Yep.
05:03Like, you looked like the better team for...
05:05I mean, nothing happened in the first period.
05:07It was very tight.
05:08Like, was there five shots total in the first period between both teams?
05:11I thought...
05:12There's no way to track this stat, but if it were possible, there might have been...
05:16How many total shots were there in the first?
05:18Was it eight total shots?
05:19Four apiece?
05:19Maybe it was eight.
05:20Yeah.
05:21I would like to just suggest as a theory, never in NHL history has the puck traveled a longer
05:28distance while also only having eight shots on goal.
05:31They were back and forth the entire time.
05:33It kept going one way to the other.
05:35It was a track meet back and forth without shots.
05:38Which you don't often see that.
05:39It was not like some neutral zone slog.
05:41At least I didn't think so.
05:42There were eight shots total in the period.
05:43Eight shots total, and it was not...
05:45Again, I don't think there were great saves or great shots, but it was just entries and
05:49exits and entries and exits, and both teams carrying it in.
05:52So, you know, it didn't strike me they played poorly in the first, but whatever.
05:58Then they get down 2-0, and it feels like death because I'm over here.
06:01I'm going to panic about them for a while.
06:03Is that allowed?
06:04How long will you need to be convinced that they're on the track of last year?
06:10How long will you need?
06:11Because I tweeted last night, right before I went to bed, I think I'm going to need 20
06:14games before I really settle in.
06:1720 games?
06:18I might need 20 games.
06:19So you need to like...
06:20Isn't that like that's December, kind of?
06:22Sure.
06:22I need them to be, you know, in the neighborhood of 12-8, right?
06:26Is that crazy?
06:27Is that 12-6-2 to really settle into...
06:31All right, yeah, you're good again.
06:33I feel good about it.
06:34I mean, right now they're 2-1 with an overtime win, and this homestand brings more good teams,
06:40and then they've got tough tests against some other teams that are playing well.
06:44I don't want to just crown them, of course, three games in.
06:47I don't want to bury them either, but I am very much projecting, you know, nervousness
06:52and some panic.
06:53I told you if they lost to Chicago, I would have been panicking on Monday.
06:56And they came back and won that game.
06:57So I want to believe that they're just going to pick up right where they left off and make
07:02the playoffs, but I am still very nervous about that.
07:06I've got a specific number for you, for me, because I am pretty confident right now they
07:12are going to be a very good team this year.
07:15Like, not 109 points maybe, but they're going to be a playoff team.
07:19They'll be challenging for top three, maybe even challenging for the division.
07:22I think there's six teams right now that are four points.
07:25So then 100 points.
07:26You think it's 100 points?
07:26Yeah.
07:26Yeah, 100 points is you're in the playoffs.
07:29Yep.
07:29Like, you might even be a wild card with 100 points, but you're in the playoffs.
07:32Yeah, Boston, I think, last year was a wild card at 100 points.
07:35That sounds right.
07:36I'm going to go nine games.
07:39And I'm specifically going nine games because every team they play between now and then
07:45is a very good team.
07:47And I play in Montreal twice.
07:49Okay.
07:49And I want to see what they look like against that team this year.
07:53Does it look different than the playoff series?
07:55Does it look the same?
07:56You also have a Florida matchup in there, too, which I thought that was the standard.
08:00Maybe it's not going to be because Barkov and Marchand are hurt, but I get a Florida matchup,
08:05I get a Toronto road matchup in there, and I get two Montreal road matchups.
08:09If they come out of that nine-game stretch and they're like...
08:12Six and three?
08:13Six and three.
08:14I'm going to feel like they're back.
08:15Okay.
08:15Yeah.
08:16That's fair.
08:17I think it's fair.
08:19I wondered...
08:20It's funny.
08:21Tage has scored now in back-to-back games.
08:23But don't you always...
08:25I shouldn't say always.
08:26Don't you also...
08:27After two, aren't you thinking, where is Tage?
08:31What's happening there?
08:32Is it working?
08:33Because right now I've got Doan, who got benched, or he's been nursing an injury or whatever.
08:39Doan and Thompson were the top pairing.
08:41And when we talked to Lindy yesterday about adjusting or those two working together, right
08:45now I don't feel like it's working greatly.
08:48I don't think their top line has been great.
08:50Yeah.
08:51But there he is.
08:51He scores a goal again.
08:52So like, okay, good.
08:53Again, another one of those, maybe you're on your B game, but are you scoring goals?
08:58Because after two periods, I'm thinking, I got another game where I just, I wonder what
09:02is happening here.
09:03Is he right?
09:04Are things going to be...
09:05Can I count on a 40-goal season?
09:07They talked about that in the broadcast last night, how he's got 40 goals in three of the
09:11last four years, and again, nine games, 20 games, when will I know if I'm going to get
09:16my 40-goal guy on pace?
09:18Maybe I won't.
09:19Maybe I will.
09:20He's got two.
09:20So he's on, like, what, a 60-goal pace?
09:22So he's got goals, but it's just another one where I'm just nervous.
09:28I'm projecting.
09:29I fully understand that I am projecting all this, my nerves onto how they play, but I'm
09:34still there.
09:35Isn't last night, though, the perfect, like, this is how many, this is how dangerous a
09:40goal scorer he is that he'll just get to 40, like, automatically every year?
09:43Because he touched the puck in the slot and was in the net.
09:45Right.
09:46Like, last night, he is, Tage's always one quick shot away from completely flipping a
09:53night where he was brutal into a game where, like, okay, good, good game.
09:59He is a ghost on that second goal that gets scored on Ellis.
10:03He lets Hughes walk through him and then doesn't skate to cover the guy that comes in from behind
10:09him that ends up shooting the puck.
10:11Like, brutal effort by him on that play.
10:13He had flybys in the first period.
10:15He had the flyby in the second game against Chicago that ended up in a breakaway on the
10:19power play.
10:20It's one of the strangest plays I've ever seen that one.
10:22He kind of froze.
10:22He just completely froze.
10:24He skated by him.
10:25Like, I thought the first 50 minutes of last night's game, he was awful.
10:29And I thought he was great after that.
10:31Even after he scored the goal.
10:32Like, he had a bunch of good shifts down the stretch.
10:34He's the one who carries it in on the rush in overtime.
10:37He was attacking in overtime, which was good.
10:40And he kind of leads to that sequence.
10:41So, like, I think a great 15 minutes with him because he's so good and dangerous as a
10:48goal scorer actually makes up for a bad 50 minutes.
10:51He's last night's number two star.
10:53I don't even have a problem with it because the 15 minutes was so important.
10:55Did they use more skaters in overtime than they normally do?
10:59Like, they got deep on the bench in overtime.
11:00Now, that might be because they were actually skating and it wasn't an overtime where you
11:06just stand out there.
11:07I thought about you when the overtime was happening.
11:09He probably likes this better.
11:10They're attacking.
11:11Yes.
11:11They were trying to be active and shoot the puck.
11:13Last year, they were 3-8 trying to hold onto the puck and get to shootouts, basically.
11:17Yeah.
11:17And this time, they attacked me.
11:19Kulik lost the puck early.
11:20That might have been a little too aggressive.
11:22But they weren't backing all the way out.
11:24They were leaving the zone and going right back in.
11:27I think...
11:27It wasn't a retreat all the way behind your goaltender, which sometimes, you know,
11:30these teams just waste time.
11:32Yeah.
11:32Lindy, in postgame, mentioned he started out with the line he did with Kulik.
11:36Who was it?
11:37Kulik and...
11:37I'm forgetting right now.
11:39It's Kulik, Darlene, and Quinn.
11:40Quinn.
11:40Quinn.
11:40Yes.
11:41He wanted guys that could skate.
11:43Like, he said, I wanted guys out there that could skate with Hughes because we wanted
11:47to keep the puck away from him.
11:48And, like, I think that's probably really smart because that top three unit for them, like,
11:53Boldy with Hughes and Kaprizov is as good as it gets.
11:57I leaned to Paul.
11:58I was like, uh-oh.
11:59Because, like, Kaprizov kills the Sabres.
12:02Hughes is amazing.
12:03And, like, they just...
12:05They won the faceoff and, like, kind of just ate that shift.
12:08Yep.
12:08And that was really good.
12:10And, yeah, I thought they used more guys than they typically do.
12:12They used Osland and Benson at one point.
12:15They used...
12:16Did they...
12:16I don't know they ever used a different defenseman, though.
12:18Would it have always been Darlene or Power?
12:19I think it was all Darlene and Power.
12:21Zellweger maybe got one look out there for a minute.
12:24I don't...
12:24Yeah.
12:25Yeah, they used...
12:26I mean, they really used, like, three...
12:28I mean, I don't know if Hellenuse made it out there.
12:30McLeod did.
12:31McLeod was out there, yeah.
12:33Maybe Hellenuse, like, one top nine guy that didn't get out there.
12:36But I feel like everybody else kind of did.
12:39And they all were attacking.
12:40Thank goodness they won.
12:41Because if they'd lost in overtime attacking, maybe they'd drifted back to their old ways.
12:44Which a lot of teams do.
12:46It's not just the Sabres.
12:47It feels like, you know, you watch a lot of games in the league where overtime is broken.
12:50That was not one of them.
12:51It was an awesome overtime.
12:52Yeah, Ellis made a couple of really nice stops to, like, keep it alive for them.
12:57And here's how you guys know I'm really old now.
12:59When I stood up to celebrate the power goal, I injured.
13:03I got hurt.
13:04Oh, no.
13:05My hip.
13:06I'm like, oh!
13:08I walked it off.
13:09On the lift?
13:10On the lift off?
13:11On the standing out of the chair?
13:12On the standing out of the chair, I stood too fast and only my hip flexed.
13:15I was, not good.
13:17That is an old man moment.
13:19Not good.
13:21Not good.
13:21It wasn't like I stood.
13:22When you're getting injured, you're standing up out of a chair.
13:25Tough.
13:25It was an explosive movement.
13:27I was up too quick.
13:28And my hip said, oh, easy there.
13:30I mean, you're going to have to get ready for that.
13:32I mean, you've got a whole season here.
13:34It's not like I had done it.
13:3584 games this year.
13:36They scored twice in the period.
13:37I was standing up and down the whole third period because they're shooting on that end.
13:40This one, though, was just like, you know, I guess it was a violent stand.
13:43You need to practice it at home.
13:45Put on some highlights from last year's playoffs.
13:47Just lift out of your chair like it's actually happening live.
13:51From now on, when they're going to overtime, what I'll do is I'll walk the concourse and
13:54do some big stretches.
13:56Dynamic warm-up.
13:57Yeah, right, right.
13:57People think, oh, he's going to the bathroom.
13:58No, he's going to stretch.
13:59He needs to stretch in between periods.
14:01Maybe everybody.
14:02He's got to go to his dyno.
14:03Maybe everybody in the intermission, they could lead on the jumbotron like it's group yoga
14:08or something.
14:09Hey, we're going to all practice getting out of our chair because we're expecting them to score
14:12like four goals the rest of this game.
14:14Is this not the genesis of the seventh inning stretch where people not getting injured
14:17for like late home runs?
14:20Is that?
14:21Could that be the genesis of the seventh inning stretch?
14:23Could that be it?
14:24I never thought about why it's called.
14:26I never thought about why that.
14:26Everybody stand up for a minute, you know?
14:28I thought it was called the stretch because it's a stretch of time that we've allotted here
14:31between.
14:32You're saying it's because people are stretching?
14:34I have no idea what the actual genesis is.
14:36You're in the home stretch?
14:37Could be anything like that.
14:38I can't wait to look it up.
14:39I mean, they probably just called it something where the game is almost over.
14:42It probably wasn't because one guy got hurt celebrating a home run.
14:46Anyway, 803-0550 on the Sabres if you want it.
14:49You're right.
14:49The 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings.
14:53Yeah.
14:54Spectators regularly stood up, stretched their arms and legs, walked around during the
14:58seventh inning.
14:58That's the genesis.
14:59Wow.
15:00There you go.
15:00That's what I need.
15:01I need that for the overtime.
15:03Anyway, coming up today, Paul at 7, Joe Marino on the Bills at 8 o'clock.
15:08And all the good stuff along the way.
15:10What a game for Owen Power.
15:12We'll get to Colton Ellis and thoughts on him and how the Sabres play this goalie roulette
15:17now with Alex Lyon returning to practice.
15:20And I thought Brian Mazurowski had a really funny and interesting point about Colton Ellis
15:24and about UPL's no trade.
15:26So, all that coming up.
15:27Paul in Buffalo leads us off this morning.
15:29Paul, good morning.
15:30Hey, good morning.
15:31Boy, there's something about when these two teams get together the last four years, I'd say.
15:36It's always an entertaining game.
15:39Every time.
15:40Halfway into the first period, when there are barely any shots on goals, I texted my buddies
15:45in the group text and I said, this is a high-quality hockey game.
15:48This is much better than the slop we've seen so far this year.
15:51From both teams, it was just smart hockey.
15:54It was fast hockey.
15:56I'm watching Minnesota.
15:57They're playing in the first period of relentless dump and chase and using their speed.
16:02And instead of getting suckered in, I just noticed one play, Darlene and Samuelson were
16:08out there and there were three wild, four-checking like demons.
16:12And Darlene just went the simplest of plays, up the boards and out, didn't go to a saver,
16:16went back to the wild.
16:17Both teams ended up changing all five men.
16:20And, you know, two minutes got killed in neutral zone play, which happened in that first period
16:24especially.
16:25And it was high-quality, smart plays because no one would give in and make the mistake and
16:30try and skate through three or four guys.
16:32And that was, it was just edifying to see that's the way hockey is supposed to be played.
16:38The best player in the game was Owen Power.
16:41I want to point out something we might not hear about today.
16:44At about three minutes left in the first period, this is the shift when Quinn Hughes takes it
16:48and circles our offensive zone with Norris tailing him.
16:52At 2.45, he throws a pass into Kirill Kaprizov in front of the net.
16:57And the only reason Kaprizov didn't put that in the net is because Owen Power muscled him
17:03to the ice.
17:04Let me say that again.
17:05Owen Power used his size and muscled one of the five best goal scorers in the world to
17:12the ice and prevented that opportunity from happening.
17:15And then he just went on to dominate the game after that.
17:19When Lindy Ruff moved Power and Darlene to a pair in the third period, it looked like the
17:24third period against Montreal Game 7.
17:27They couldn't be stopped.
17:28They couldn't be stopped last night.
17:29It was unbelievable.
17:32Quinn Hughes was the third best defenseman on the ice last night.
17:35Also, I thought at the end of the second period, Lindy split up Norris and Tage, put them on
17:42separate lines.
17:43I thought that is the right move.
17:45I think they should both be on different lines.
17:47I do not think they are complementary players.
17:49Guys, have a great show.
17:50You know it's a great night when Sneaky Joe goes home and does a lockdown review before
17:55he goes to bed the next day.
17:58That's the hallmark of a big game nowadays.
18:00Guys, we'll see you.
18:01Thanks, Paul.
18:02I like that you said it was a high-quality hockey game.
18:04I thought the same thing.
18:05That's what I kind of just said.
18:07In that first period, there's only eight shots, but the puck was back and forth a bunch.
18:11I also think the Sabres power play still has yet to score.
18:14That first Sabres power play, high-level skill to keep the puck for a minute in the zone,
18:21never actually get a shot.
18:23Minnesota was hyper-aggressive.
18:25Yeah.
18:26Lindy talked about how they haven't dealt with pressure well, and granted, they didn't score,
18:30and they didn't get a shot, but they dealt with the pressure pretty well.
18:33It was 10 out of 10 difficulty level to keep the puck, and they did for a while, and I
18:39want
18:39to at least mention that.
18:40They never did control it, though, really.
18:42It was always a rapid movement around the boards to keep going.
18:47I think you want to turn that into, okay, you're being hyper-aggressive, and I'm going
18:51to make you pay for it with a scoring chance.
18:53That's the next step.
18:55Baby steps, maybe, with their power play.
19:00What were they, 0 for 3 last night?
19:03They're 0 for 10 in the season.
19:04Did they have a higher expected goal shorthanded than on the power play?
19:06They are.
19:07It is really incredible.
19:08Because even last year, they're the most dangerous shorthanded team in the league.
19:13Yes.
19:14And Tuck goes, and will they still be that?
19:16Norris, last night, the thing McLeod and Tuck had was every time one of the two would
19:22get the puck, and they felt like, all right, there's room here?
19:25It's like, we're going.
19:26And they're the fastest guys on the ice, so they're going to race ahead of everybody
19:29else, and they're going to have the speed to get back.
19:32And that's what I felt like last night on multiple occasions.
19:36McLeod would get the puck, and like, all right, we're going, and Norris would just shoot up
19:39with them, because Norris is one of their best skaters, too.
19:42I'm imagining that's why he's out there.
19:45Like, sure, the defensive part, but hey, if we want a guy with McLeod to go create chances,
19:50like, Norris, with his speed, is probably the guy to pick.
19:53Yeah.
19:53So, but the contrast with that to the power play is unbelievable.
19:58They had five shorthanded chances last night.
20:01Did they have, they had, they should have had one power play goal, but Wall said.
20:06It's a good save.
20:07Because that was power play, wasn't it?
20:08Tage in the slot?
20:09Yeah, yes.
20:10It was a good save.
20:11The late power play.
20:11It was a great save.
20:13Yeah.
20:148-0-3-0-5-50.
20:15Colton Chaos in the net.
20:17Who starts on Thursday?
20:20I think Colton Ellis is starting on Thursday.
20:23I think he, if you asked me that after the second intermission, I probably would have
20:27said it's going back to Lucanen, or if Lyon's healthy, and I feel like he earned the net
20:32on Thursday night.
20:32I mean, that was, that was a fine game by a Sabre goalie, and I think it was the best
20:39goalie game they've had through three games so far.
20:42Right?
20:43I mean, it's the lowest number on the board.
20:46They had a 6 and a 3 and now a 2.
20:48He was in the plus on a goal saved above expected.
20:520.01.
20:54Okay.
20:54That is the plus territory.
20:56Is it their first plus of the year?
20:57I think so.
20:58I think Lucanen was in the minus on the first two games of the season.
21:02Okay.
21:02What was Walstead in this game for goals above expected?
21:04He was over one.
21:06I know that.
21:07Yeah.
21:08Like, the second goal, I've got a save there.
21:11Right?
21:12The first goal, I thought the same thing, but I didn't notice until Owen pointed out
21:15that it hit Samuelson's stick.
21:17Yeah.
21:17Yeah.
21:18That one was, it was coming low and he was in a good spot, I thought, and it just ramped
21:23up and kind of, it was tough.
21:25I got no issue with it because it rattled off Samuelson sticking up.
21:28The second goal is probably a perfect example of a goal where you're going to want some
21:37saves this year.
21:38And also, you can't expect all of them.
21:41Right?
21:42Like, that's, the guy's in a great spot to take a shot.
21:45I mean, he went five hole and Ellis left it.
21:48I was thinking about you, O, like talking about it.
21:50It almost looked like he was trying to bait him there and then forgot to shut the trap.
21:54Yeah, he got caught, I think he got caught guessing far post.
21:58I think he thought he was going to drive to the far post and he got his weight over his
22:02toes and just couldn't get down.
22:04And, you know, it's a tough, it's a tough look.
22:07That's your first, your first responsibility there is don't get beat through and don't
22:12compete high short side.
22:13And he gave up the through and that's tough, but he, it didn't phase him.
22:19And that, that to me is really good to see.
22:21There was a lot of stuff last night that I liked seeing out of him.
22:24His puck handling was really good.
22:27And that, like giving up that goal in that spot to me and then bouncing back from it,
22:33not even really thinking about it was really encouraging to me.
22:36Yeah.
22:36And I wonder like if he'll get, you said puck handling a couple of times, he went all
22:40the way out to the wall to field the puck.
22:41And I can remember again, like not that everything is some referendum on Lukonen, but I remember
22:45the playoffs asking and feeling like I need him to be more active doing that.
22:50It felt like there were a couple of times in the Montreal series where I needed him to
22:53go get a puck and he just kind of let it all come to him.
22:55So we'll see.
22:56I want to dig more into what you said about Lukonen yesterday, how you think it might be
22:58over for him with the fans.
23:01Because, you know, that, that, that'll be interesting to continue to play out.
23:03And Lion is close to returning.
23:07So 803-0550.
23:08That's our phone number.
23:09Sabres win.
23:09They beat the Minnesota Wild.
23:11Paul's right.
23:11When these two teams play, they're good games.
23:13They really are.
23:14And a great crowd on a Tuesday night at the arena.
23:17Packed house.
23:18There was a roar before the horn for the overtime goal.
23:22Yep.
23:22It was awesome.
23:23It was a great scene.
23:24You know, it's a Tuesday in October and people are hooting and hollering on their way out
23:28of the building for a comeback win.
23:29So full marks.
23:31Good stuff.
23:31Give us a ring on the Sabres if you want.
23:33We'll, of course, continue to dig into Bill's Rams, which is on the way Monday.
23:38Monday's a good day.
23:40Sabres, Panthers, and then Bill's Rams.
23:43Afternoon Sabres, Panthers.
23:44Afternoon, 1 p.m. Sabres, Panthers, and then Bill's Rams.
23:47So Monday will be a doozy.
23:48Jeremy and Joe here on WGR.
