00:00Hi there, our topsy-turvy weather continues following a mild start to the day for many
00:05southern parts of the UK today. It's turning colder later as a cold front crosses the country
00:12but with colder air replacing mild we've got a very buoyant lower atmosphere, a lot of instability
00:17with this northwesterly airstream and that's leading to a lot of showers for the north
00:22and west of Scotland especially and Northern Ireland as well as gusty winds. Now these
00:26are the mean wind speeds at lunchtime on Friday, that's typically when they'll peak during
00:32Friday but gust valleys will be higher than that typically around the mid to high 30s in
00:39many places, low to mid 40s for some and for some parts of the north Pennines even higher
00:44than that and that could affect Transpennine routes. So a blustery day to come with frequent
00:50showers in the north and west and a lot of mild air continuing across the south into the afternoon
00:56a lot of cloud as well and here's the cold front difficult to make it out but it is a
01:00narrow band of rain that is likely to lead in some places to 10 millimeters of rain in just a
01:06few
01:06minutes as well as gusty winds so you'll know about that when that clears. It's going to clear the mild
01:14air but ahead of it 18-19 celsius behind it mid-teens or even low double figures towards the northwest
01:21accompanied by those strong winds it's going to feel on the cool side. Frequent showers continue in
01:26fact they intensify in the northwest with the chance of hail and thunder in the northwest of
01:31Scotland for a time the showers merging to give longer spells of rain as well through the hours of
01:35darkness always accompanied by those strong winds with the risk of coastal gales around the north and
01:40west of Scotland overnight. Further south not quite as windy but still a noticeable breeze and further
01:48showers coming through across many parts but fewer showers reaching the southeast clear spells here
01:54and with this cooler air mass in place it's going to be a colder night with temperatures widely
01:59in the single figures although held up by the gusty winds. Now we start Saturday with some bright
02:05skies some blue sky around especially in the south and the east always a chance of a shower just
02:10about anywhere but the most frequent showers once again will be towards northern and western parts
02:14the UK especially northern and western Scotland where they'll be coming in thick and fast and in
02:18some places we'll just get shower after shower giving the appearance of long spells of rain through
02:24the day always accompanied by this strong wind although that will tend to be easing through the day
02:28and into the afternoon that wind of course making it feel much cooler in many places with temperatures
02:34in the mid-teens in the south low teens or low double figures further north similar in the north
02:39compared with friday but much cooler in the south. Now the showers tend to only slowly ease in many
02:46places on Saturday night a better chance of clear spells breaking out widely and as a result actually
02:53with the winds easing at the same time it's a colder night on Saturday going into Sunday a chilly start
02:58for many on Sunday morning but a bright day to come for much of the UK for much of the
03:04morning at least
03:05we've got thickening clouds towards the south west and some rain arriving later on but we'll keep you
03:10updated as always on our YouTube channel that's all for me for now bye bye
