00:00Hi there.
00:01No sooner do we say goodbye to Austin, but we say hello to Bulo.
00:06And an amber warning is in force across much of Scotland, as well as parts of Northern
00:11Ireland and Northern England for later Saturday into Sunday because of the likely disruption
00:16from the strong winds associated with Bulo currently explosively deepening on the cold
00:22side of the jet stream as it comes in from the Atlantic and it's going to bottom out
00:27into the 940s hectopascals, so an exceptionally deep area of low pressure even for the UK
00:34in October.
00:35That means it's going to bring widely wet and windy weather across the country during the
00:40rest of Saturday.
00:41You can see the bright colours there on the rainfall forecast indicating heavy rain widely
00:46across many western and central parts of the country, but all areas getting a soaking through
00:51Saturday.
00:52Saturday and that rain brought by some very strong winds which will continue to strengthen
00:58through the afternoon.
00:59Even if you don't have the wind warnings because the wind gusts are just below warning thresholds,
01:06it's still likely to be a very unpleasant afternoon for getting out and about with the combination
01:11of strong winds, gales in places and heavy rainfall.
01:16So widely unsettled.
01:17No surprises then that despite temperatures into the mid-teens it's going to feel unpleasant.
01:23Now the winds will be the main concern but the rain an additional concern and yes we do
01:32need rain in the south of the UK but actually rather a lot of rain falling in six hours can
01:39still cause issues and that's why in this area we've got a rainfall warning for the rest
01:45of Saturday.
01:46Expecting widely 30 millimetres and in some places especially upland areas in the west
01:5160 millimetres of rain and that can still cause transport disruption as well as localised flooding
01:57despite the fact that reservoirs are running at very low levels.
02:01We've also got a rain warning for northern Scotland that comes into effect later Saturday
02:05and into Sunday and that's for the fact that we're just going to see shower after shower and
02:10then some longer spells of very heavy rain throughout Sunday as an occluded front moves through.
02:16But the wind like I say the main concern from Bulo and although it's a very windy afternoon
02:21on Saturday the winds actually peaking Saturday night and throughout much of Sunday and this
02:27time the strongest winds will be towards the north of the UK rather than the south but a blustery
02:32day to come for all parts.
02:33You can see here wind gusts coloured in where they exceed 50 miles an hour and this is what
02:40meteorologists call a warm conveyor belt ahead of a cold front.
02:43We've got this funnel of moist air bringing the wet and windy weather but also bringing
02:48widely wind gusts in excess of 50 miles an hour.
02:51Then we go into the evening, cold front clears that's likely to bring some lively weather, some
02:56heavy rain and some strong winds and we've got what meteorologists call a cold conveyor belt.
03:01This swathe of buoyant air that comes in behind a cold front and because of its buoyancy it
03:09can bring even higher wind gusts and you can see the darker colours here with that cold
03:15conveyor reaching parts of Western Scotland and the far north of Northern Ireland Saturday
03:20evening.
03:21And this is likely to be the peak time for wind gusts in this area.
03:25I think for North Wales, Northern England, Scotland, Northern Ireland widely wind gusts in
03:30excess of 60 miles an hour but you can see this zone here bringing wind gusts of 80 miles
03:35an hour or perhaps a touch more for a time during Saturday evening.
03:39Nevertheless, the strong wind gusts develop more widely even though the peak will have
03:45died down.
03:46More widespread wind gusts in excess of 50 or 60 miles an hour are likely across northern
03:51parts of the UK through Sunday.
03:54You can see most areas coloured in by this point across the north and then the winds actually
03:59continuing to strengthen for the far north of Scotland into Orkney later part of Sunday.
04:05So a number of wind warnings in force where yellow warnings are issued across North Wales,
04:12Northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland throughout Saturday and Sunday expecting gusts
04:16of 50 into 60 mile per hour and then for the amber area which covers most of Scotland away
04:22from Shetland as well as the north of Northern Ireland and the north of Northern England wind
04:26gusts of 80 miles an hour for a time Saturday night into the start of Sunday.
04:32Heavy rain moves through, lingers for a time overnight across Shetland and then we've got all these
04:38lively showers coming in, thunderstorms in places as well.
04:41Some showers in the south but a better chance of clear and dry weather here although it will
04:45stay blustery but the most likely weather will be across Scotland, Northern Ireland and
04:50Northern England overnight with those frequent and prolonged showers, some thunderstorms like
04:54I say and very gusty winds.
04:57With the winds the air will be stirred up enough to prevent anything particularly low as far
05:01as temperatures are concerned but it is a cool air mass we're into by the start of Sunday.
05:06Actually plenty of bright weather for the southern half of the UK, sunny spells for many parts
05:10of England and Wales, a few showers here and there and it's going to stay blustery but the
05:15most frequent showers and some longer spells of rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland
05:19as well as Northern England and yet those winds not really easing through the day on Sunday
05:24it is going to be a very windy day.
05:27Likely impacts from those winds across northern parts of the UK throughout Saturday into Sunday
05:32will be the fact that the trees are in full leaf of course, branches may come down, transport
05:39disruption, tiles off roofs, dangerous conditions around the coast with big waves.
05:43So not the kind of weekend for getting out and about and travelling unless really necessary.
05:50Temperatures on the cool side through Sunday, close to average but feeling significantly cooler
05:56given the strength of those blustery winds.
05:59The winds finally eased later Sunday and Sunday night, clear spells developing but only ahead
06:05of the next system.
06:07You can see it waiting in the wings there towards the southwest.
06:10Another area of low pressure, these things often come in clusters because of the jet stream
06:14and where it's positioned and this is the next feature coming in for Monday bringing yet
06:19more wet and windy weather to start the week.
06:22So close eye on that for the next few days but right now I would stay up to date with
06:28all
06:28the latest forecasts and traffic news as well of course.
06:31Be prepared to change your plans if necessary and we'll keep you updated right here on our
06:36YouTube channel.
06:36Bye bye.
