A cold morning by the Voidomatis River leads to a rewarding search for the White-throated Dipper, a specialist wild bird often found around fast water and small waterfalls. After leaving the Pindos Mountains, the photographer makes one last stop at the old stone bridge of Kleidonia in the Vikos Gorge, hoping the rushing river and rocky banks will bring the bird into view.

The first attempt is slow and uncomfortable in near-freezing conditions, with no sign of movement at first. After relocating downstream and finding a better, less exposed spot close to the water, the patience pays off when a pair of dippers appears and one lingers long enough for a few images and some footage. It’s a simple but rewarding bird photography outing set against a stunning natural landscape.

Created for viewers who enjoy wild bird photography, nature watching, birding in Greece, and quiet outdoor wildlife moments, this is a calm field video with real-time observation and a strong sense of place. It also suits fans of wildlife videography, river birds, and travel nature content.

SEO: White-throated Dipper photography, birdwatching in Greece, wildlife videography, nature documentary style footage, river bird photography, birding at the Voidomatis River, Vikos Gorge wildlife, and relaxing nature viewing for bird lovers and outdoor photography fans.

00:00I've got one on the rock over there, diving in the car and managed to get some footage.
00:21So, good morning.
00:24Today I'm leaving the Pimlos Mountains
00:27I'm heading north towards Thessaloniki
00:31but before I go, I wanted to come by this other stone arch bridge that I wanted to show you
00:39just behind me here
00:42it's a lovely old bridge
00:45and the Voidamati River is in full flow
00:48or almost full flow
00:50with all the snowfall and mountains
00:56because I wanted to have a go, not at photographing the bridge
00:59because at this time of day it's in shadow in the morning
01:04later on the sun will swing around and it lights up the bridge quite beautifully
01:08but I'll be gone by then
01:09but what I wanted to have a go at finally
01:14is a little bird
01:17that lives up and down this river
01:21which is called White-Throated Dipper
01:25I'm just going to cross over this bridge
01:29and go for a walk along the river and see what I can see
01:34while the river is in year and watching
01:42and it's a little bit of a walk across the river
01:42here I want to be able to walk over again
01:43and go for a walk in the river
01:46have got up here
01:47has got up here
01:52and it's a little bit of a walk
01:57here
02:15So I found this little spot just by the water's edge and I'm hoping that I sit very still
02:24at some point along this opposite bank here where there's lots of other perches, there's
02:30rushing water which they, dippers like because that's where they dive in and churn up the rocks
02:37to see if they can find any larvae or little shrimps or anything like that to eat.
02:44So I'm hoping I sit quietly and still enough here, I'll be lucky enough to spot one.
02:50So just a question of waiting and trying to keep warm at the same time because it is about
02:57minus six at the minute and hopefully something will turn up so we'll see a little bit.
03:12Well I've given it about half an hour and so far I've seen nothing and not even a fly
03:19past so because my bottom is freezing here I'm going to walk for a little bit and try
03:27and find another location.
03:37Okay time to move.
03:40So I've only got about an hour left before I have to make a move so I'll try a little
03:47bit
03:47further downstream.
03:53The sun has moved round a little bit now so I might find a spot that's in the sun and
03:59a little bit warmer to sit in.
04:03So I'm just heading back down towards the bridge.
04:18And I've just spotted one over by the rocks there.
04:25Let's see if I can get down without scaring him off.
04:31He's just dived in the water.
04:49Lost it.
04:55I hope you can hear me over this white water.
04:59But I've relocated again to a spot literally 20 yards from where I sat down where I saw the
05:06cormorant and the dipper because I'm slightly less conspicuous here than I was there.
05:15And I'm also more at the same level as the waterfall so it's a lower angled shot if you
05:29come back and I should happen to be able to take some images of them.
05:35So I'm going to hang out here for a little bit and hopefully the little dipper might come
05:43back.
05:46It's a little bit warmer here too.
05:48It's a little bit warmer here too.
06:03So I've got one on the rock over there.
06:06I've been diving in and out.
06:07I've managed to get some footage.
06:09I've managed to get some pictures too of me.
06:13So we'll be seeing that for just a second.
06:20It's actually a pair.
06:43It's actually a pair.
06:46It's absolutely fabulous watching him.
06:48He's diving in and out of the water.
06:49It's amazing.
07:12It's just gone to another rock.
07:14I thought he had gone.
07:16He was on another little rock so I'm going to go down.
07:19I'm going to catch up with you in a little while.
07:46Yeah.
08:03Yeah.
08:16At this point is kinda nice.
09:24So I think I managed to capture a few images and a little bit of footage as well of the
09:28White Throat for Dipper.
09:30It was fun to be in his company for a while.
09:36I'm going to be in this stunning location.
09:40So I'm going to pack up now and head off to my next location which will be near Thessaloniki
09:46which is the capital of northern Greece.
09:51And hopefully I should be bringing you a couple of videos from there as well.
09:55So I hope you've enjoyed watching this.
09:57Please hit that like button and the subscribe as well.
10:01And don't forget to ring the bell for notifications if you want.
10:05Thanks again for watching and I'll see you next time.
10:07Bye.
10:34Bye.
