00:00Over filed grooves in the nail plate. Deep, scary and hard to make sense of.
00:04I remember promising you a video on how I work on hands with grooves like these.
00:08In our case they are on almost every finger. So let's take the one that seems the saddest to me.
00:13That will be the ring finger. And we'll start with the most important part.
00:17We need to gently push back the cuticle so the over filed grooves
00:20are clearly visible and we can tell where the healthy nail plate ends and the damaged
00:25over filed area begins. Next I turn the pusher around and use this other side to clean up the
00:30pterygium as much as possible. But in this case by the way you can either use a safety bit or
00:36do it
00:36with a pusher like I'm doing if you don't have that kind of bit. I add a little talc to
00:41dry the skin and
00:42get a better look and understanding of where everything is. Then I move on to working with a
00:48drill bit. In this case I'm using a double cut bit. It's called twin. It has red and blue bands.
00:53Mine is from K-Miss. And at low speeds around 8000 to 10,000 rpm I very softly and gently
01:01start moving
01:02over the over filed grooves. Over them means that I'm not trying to file them down, I'm not trying to
01:07smooth them out in any way. I just pretend they don't exist and treat the cuticle as usual.
01:12This is the most important nuance when working with these very grooves. Next I'll take a bit with a red
01:17band. Granted mine has worn off a bit here because this is a working bit and I use it all
01:22the time.
01:23With this pointed tip bit I go a little bit deeper but without overdoing it. No need to go in
01:28too deep.
01:29I'm just leveling the surface for myself. And as you can see while I was prepping everything there's
01:35practically no trace left of those grooves. And now let's get back to just how scary these
01:40grooves really are. How terrible it is. Well besides the aesthetic side obviously there's the physical
01:45aspect. The nail plate has been thinned out and as it grows out towards the free edge after a while
01:51it's going to hit the stress zone. And for us this will mean that the nail will be weak in
01:56that spot.
01:57But overall if you use the right strengthening technique everything will be fine. But of course
02:03that doesn't mean you should just go around over filing nails left and right. Meanwhile we've already
02:08prepped everything and the nail looks totally normal. By the way we're keeping the length here
02:12and doing a gel overlay so everything will turn out great. And I'm just trimming the cuticle with
02:16curved tube scissors. This series is called S04J. I beg you please write that down. I'm tired of
02:23replying to comments asking what scissors these are. They're the S04J. Just in case I'll put a picture
02:29up on the screen. You just need to search for it wherever you usually look these things up and it'll
02:33show up. The brand is Nippon Nippers. Meanwhile we are done with the cut and can move on to applying
02:38the gel overlay. By the way I've already posted the gel overlay application. You can find it further down
02:42in my feet.
02:43you
