00:16in this new episode of our segment Venezuela on the move we'll learn about
00:20the Nha Placida commune which the spirit of struggle love and commitment to the
00:25country has launched various initiatives aimed at promoting the local economy and
00:29building social well-being let's take a look in el centro de Venezuela in
00:35central Venezuela in Miranda State in the Tuy Valleys region there is the town of
00:40Cuba founded in 1690 and popularly known as La Perla del Tuy this town with a
00:45population of over 170,000 stands out for two important reasons its historic
00:51downtown the birthplace of the national hero Ezequiel Zamora and its people
00:56productive men and women
01:03Cuba is much more than rural streets the lands are home to the women of Nha Placida
01:09commune an example of strength and communal organization together they have
01:13fought for their commune for more than a decade and every initiative has taken root
01:17within the walls of their self-government home the commune is my home the commune
01:26members are my brothers the women of the commune who are my contemporaries are my
01:31sisters I have my grandchildren the commune so for me the commune is a home a
01:37home where equals gather and among equals we are better able to understand one
01:42another and if we face any difficulties we are also able to overcome them but
01:47together as a family so from the bottom of my heart I love my commune and I love
01:53my fellow commune members because about 80% are women and most of the self
01:59government bodies are made up of women my 20 male fellow commune members are also my
02:04brothers and they too have a sense of belonging and commitment just like a
02:09woman and they defend women with all their might so what can I say my commune is my home my
02:17commune
02:18is my family and my fellow commune members are my family
02:24Amid the pandemic a project was born solid waste collection to provide
02:31residents with a clean and healthy living environment and months later it became a
02:35circular economy and more control you don't know ultimately my oh I know I
02:40don't have a system out to go over the past eight years through self-government
02:44systems involving 16 communal councils we have built a social enterprise that was
02:49originally established as a social waste plan the program continues to collect 60
02:54metric tons of waste on a self-managed basis across those 16 communal
03:00councils and has now succeeded through training and organization establishing an
03:05enterprise with the support of carico caribe who were our main trainers our main
03:13objective as a commune is to create a process of transformation with our mother
03:18earth to create a process of transformation starting with a citizen
03:23centered on nature and our territory as the primary environment that gives us
03:30life and provides us with all the essential resources we need to develop as a
03:35people and as a nation
03:41the labor force is female it is women who collect the waste in their commune to bring it to the
03:47collection
03:47center and as the scooter passes by the journey begins until it reaches the
03:51classification center
04:00they arrive at this green landscape with enthusiasm and get to work and recycle
04:05what was once trash
04:07we sorted it into eight groups each group is made up of one type of material for
04:13example we have the PPP which we call the PPP which is the plastic from chairs the
04:21plastic from laundry baskets the plastic from kitchen utensils and we also have
04:27blow molded plastic which is the plastic used for shampoo bottles bleach bottles and
04:33paint cans we also have a separate category for material that can't be mixed with the
04:39others which includes the plastic from butter containers Chinese rice containers the
04:46plastic from refrigerators washing machines and all of this we carry out this entire process here with
04:54representatives from the commune the ones who started this project once we had it weighted by the
05:02communal council to determine how much each communal council has contributed we can provide them with what
05:09they need a wet trimmer for their dance group lighting for whatever they need and can afford with the
05:16amount of materials they have given us love for his country the environment and his
05:21Venezuelan fellow citizens has been the pillar that has sustained his work love is the first legacy left to
05:27us by our commander Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias which is being carried on by our president Nicolas Maduro and
05:34now by our acting president Delcy Rodriguez that is what socialism is all about unity equality and social
05:41justice because if there is no justice there is no peace so that is what we want in the commune
05:47in general 21st century socialism with more than 60 metric tons of recycled waste per month they
05:54contribute to the economic diversification of Miranda state which is emerging through its agricultural
05:59agro-industrial manufacturing and exports sector
