00:00Let's hear from Kevin Stefanski on what he thought of Michael Penix Jr.'s performance last night.
00:05I thought, you know, listen, versus a tough defense of front, a tough coverage,
00:09I thought made some plays, like every quarterback, you're not going to make every play,
00:13but there's things that he can certainly improve upon, but I thought he battled.
00:18I feel exactly the same way. I honestly, did we say that about 10 minutes ago in more or less
00:22words?
00:23It was like, was it a perfect performance? No. Are there things you can build on? Absolutely.
00:28Absolutely. Did you make some incredible plays at times? Yes.
00:31I don't want to hyper-focus on third down percentage, but I can't tell you guys how many times
00:35over the last two years in particular that we've talked about third down conversions,
00:40and having one at 53% is extremely high.
00:45Like, that's over the top of what your goal probably is in any given scenario.
00:51So it was nice to see them be able to convert, make some throws in the clutch,
00:55although it felt like they made more clutch plays than you,
00:57but it just is what it is. That's a good defense.
01:00Those are some really, really good playmakers on the other side of it,
01:03and it was going to be a battle.
01:05Yeah, well, I mean, they didn't really stop you much in the second half
01:08other than you were, they stopped you when you got in and around their 20, right?
01:15But how many times, I thought Mike, and at one point, I don't know what he finished with,
01:19but at one point, he was like 9 of 13 for 150-something yards on third down alone.
01:26On third down alone, and to me, he was really good in those third down situations for the most part.
01:33Now, again, I say that to say, if he's able to connect with Bajon on third down late in the
01:40game,
01:41Bajon might walk in.
01:43Or at the very worst, you burn more time off that clock and make it more difficult
01:47for them to go down and score and tie the game up to send it to overtime.
01:53Yeah.
01:54One of the tweets we've gotten from Bobby, and again, we're going to get to Randy and Dexter's calls
01:58in a second, but Bobby tweeted us,
01:59I may catch flack from this, but it's time to start looking at a real QB.
02:02The best thing you can have from players' availability, and unfortunately, that's not Mike.
02:05And I only bring that up because he's one of many kind of having this sentiment today
02:09that there needs to be another search for a quarterback.
02:11I feel, like Kevin Sofancy just said, he battled last night.
02:15Yeah.
02:16I don't know.
02:17Go ahead.
02:18I went back and forth with Bobby, and he was like,
02:21that's why I said I needed to catch flack.
02:23I'm like, I don't care what you think.
02:25I just think we have to be careful riding these huge highs and huge lows.
02:35Mike played pretty good last night.
02:37He didn't get hurt because he's not durable.
02:39He got hurt because a 6'6", 265-pound human being hit him right in the ribs
02:46with all his body weight and force.
02:50I don't know.
02:51I can't sit here and say, well, Mike's injury-prone.
02:54I don't believe that in this case.
02:57It's an interesting conversation where we're at at this point
03:01because I think both sides of this can be true.
03:06You can be a fan of Michael Penix and want Michael Penix to succeed
03:09and understand that he's been dealt a bad hand.
03:12You can also look at it and say, you know what?
03:15There is a track record in a history.
03:17He even said last night when he was at the podium
03:19that he had a rib injury in college.
03:22And I think that's understandable for fans to feel that way.
03:25I'm more on the side of what Bo's talking about right now,
03:27and I said this to you a number of times, we can't deal in absolutes, man.
03:31It can't be when you lose, we've got a clean house,
03:34and when you win, we're going to the Super Bowl.
03:36We have to be smarter than that and understand nuance around these matchups
03:41that come with week-to-week games in the NFL.
03:45But I wouldn't tell anybody how to feel on that front right now.
03:48I think that we talk about sometimes, especially with Jake Matthews,
03:51like the best abilities, availability.
03:54That is true at the quarterback position.
03:55But keep in mind, it's hard to find in the NFL, dude.
03:59Look around.
04:00The best quarterbacks are missing games week after week after week after week.
04:04As a matter of fact, you might get one returning from injury this week on Sunday.
04:08It looks like that's exactly what's going to happen,
04:09and he's a pretty good quarterback.
04:11So it just kind of is what it is.
