00:00If you want efficiency, get a rude system.
00:02If you don't want efficiency, re-watch the last possession of overtime
00:05by the Commanders yesterday.
00:06If it ain't rude, Brian.
00:08It ain't right.
00:09I want to get to this so we don't forget it.
00:11I'm seeing this from Commanders Coverage on Instagram.
00:14I want to give them credit for that.
00:16Last four games in the second half, they've given up at least 20 points.
00:21Gave up 20 in the second half to the Cowboys.
00:23Gave up 21 in the second half to the Seahawks.
00:26Gave up 20 in the second half to the Colts.
00:28And they gave up 24 yesterday.
00:30Jameis Winston and the New York Football Giants.
00:33That is also a factor.
00:35And it's going to not be remembered because of the way this freaking game went.
00:42But something's got to change with that second half defense.
00:44All right.
00:45Blame pie.
00:47We'll start with Milton in New York.
00:49How you doing, Milton?
00:51Hey, guys.
00:51How y'all doing?
00:52Good, man.
00:52How are you?
00:54All right.
00:55JP, I'm a huge fan.
00:56I love your work.
00:57I have to see living in New York.
00:58I listen to the show every day.
01:00Thanks, Bob.
01:01And Brian Mitchell, you are the reason I was the kick returner in the 90s with one game
01:06because I couldn't do that anymore.
01:07You're crazy.
01:08But when it comes to the blame pie, I'm going to have to go 80% Quinn.
01:13Quinn, I don't think Quinn has even, since he's been here, won up the game from just being
01:18a good head coach.
01:19I think all of our wins have come on either lucky bounces or just guys just stepping up
01:23to the plate at the right moment.
01:24I don't think Quinn has outcoached anybody in any game that I can remember since he's
01:28been here.
01:29So I'm going to have to go 80% him.
01:31I'm going to have to go 10% to Mikey Sandistil and whoever the defensive coach is.
01:36So in that game, when it was 20 to 27, Mikey Sandistil hasn't been playing the last three
01:41games like that.
01:42I couldn't understand in the fourth quarter, why was he matched up with Malik Nabors on
01:47an all-out blitz and they were expecting him to do anything?
01:50That play made no sense to me.
01:52Why was he out there at that time?
01:54It just didn't add up.
01:55And 10% has to go to Jaden.
01:58I don't know how to feel about Jaden anymore.
02:00So I'm kind of tired of the nonchalant, the smile, the, he's just too relaxed to me and
02:05whatever VR machine that he has, I don't think it comes with like clock management or
02:10clock.
02:10So I'm just this team and we deserve better and we just, we just not getting that and
02:15it sucks.
02:16It's a good call, Milton.
02:18Thank you, buddy.
02:20Our guy, Cody Shook, Cody Betts texted me, tweeted me rather, his blame pie, 45% to Dan
02:27Quinn, 25% to Jaden, 20% to Blau.
02:305% to the refs, 5% to the alumni.
02:33Brian, would you like to defend yourself?
02:35Nope.
02:37Let's go to Mark in Burke.
02:40Mark, who do you blame for yesterday, man?
02:42Hey guys.
02:44Well, I got to go with the popular opinion and blame Dan Quinn.
02:48And I have reasons for it.
02:51If you look at this defense with our defensive guru, when Gilwood Jr. was the defensive coordinator
02:57in 2024, we were giving up 23 points per game.
03:00And that seemed bad.
03:01I mean, it seemed like we were giving up a lot, but we were 18.
03:06Last year, it went to 26.5 points per game.
03:09And we were 27.
03:11This year, we're giving up 31 points per game.
03:15We're 30th in the league.
03:17It is ridiculous.
03:19And we've given up 318, 332, 437, and 317 yards.
03:24And 412 yards to Jamius Winston.
03:27Guys, do you think like Jim Harbaugh was on the side saying, is this guy going to adapt
03:33to his scheme at all?
03:33Are we just going to be able to throw to Isaiah likely all game long, and he's never going
03:37to do anything?
03:38Because he must have, right?
03:39I mean, how do you not?
03:41The coach just doesn't adapt.
03:44It's pathetic.
03:45It's going backwards.
03:47And I'm getting real tired of seeing it.
03:49I'm sure you guys are too.
03:50I mean, you got to come in here and do these shows and try to, you know, boost people up
03:54or get people excited about this team.
03:55But it's trash, right?
03:58It was...
03:59Listen, man.
04:00I mean, you're not wrong.
04:01There's a lot to unpack from that.
04:03I appreciate the call.
04:07I don't know watching that.
04:09And the more I've watched this play back, it's just like, what are you thinking about?
04:13Brian, you've said something before, though.
04:15When you were playing, and sometimes you know a coach is wrong when you're on the field, you're
04:19going to do what you need to do.
04:21I do wonder if Jaden, in that situation, thought, man, I'm just going to spike this.
04:26Like, I don't know what the hell is going on here, but I know we got to get this field
04:29goal off.
04:32But he has the autonomy to do that, right?
04:35I have a hard time blaming Jaden when I thought he was excellent throughout the game.
04:40He was the quarterback on the field, though.
04:42You're the leader on the field in that position.
04:44I just think, but Jay, for me, it's amazing to me.
04:48That dude is unbelievable.
04:50Everybody want to just jump off the bandwagon with him.
04:53The damn play shouldn't have been ran at the last play.
04:56No.
04:56And that play was sent then to run a play.
04:59Why wasn't it being clocked right now, 15 seconds, 20 seconds?
05:09Jaden is on the field, but he's still following rules about what plays you're calling on which
05:14card.
05:14So why didn't someone at 20 seconds, 15 seconds, say, can't run no more plays?
05:22You got to, the quarterback got a helmet, got a speaker in his helmet, and you can give
05:27him any information.
05:29Blau can tell him that because he has a direct line to him.
05:32So I'm just wondering why did they run?
05:34The last play being run, when it snapped, I'm like, oh, hell.
05:39Because it doesn't look, and like you see, receivers are going downfield.
05:42If the thing had been planned altogether, you know, those are people on the sideline, people
05:50that are there to manage the game.
05:53The quarterback is, he managed the game after the fact.
05:57And I think it's worth pointing out, you can speak to it as a player, it's chaos out there.
06:02This is not the TV copy where you have producers telling you exactly what should happen and
06:07how much time and the timeout situation and down and distance, and where does your kicker
06:11feel comfortable?
06:12It is chaos on the field.
06:15The coaching staff's job is to manage the chaos.
06:18The players have to be out there and run what's called.
06:21Would you have liked to see Jaden make a better decision in those closing seconds?
06:25Certainly.
06:26I would have just liked to see the ball spike and have 15 seconds on the clock and we kicking
06:30the field goal.
06:31So instead of us trying to run another play, the other play did what?
06:36So if you watch what I think is the design of it, Senate runs a motion and a comeback and
06:42then a flare to the sideline.
06:43I think if they were going to, there's other receivers that are in the middle of the field.
06:47If you're throwing it to the middle of the field, you're dumber than you look because
06:51you certainly won't have the time.
06:53That's over.
06:53So I think the play design is to go to Senate and he's covered and like, but it would have
06:59been a five yard game.
07:01What the hell is the point?
07:03Why risk it for that?
07:04I don't, I don't know.
07:06I just, I'm still wondering why.
07:08Did they think they were down?
07:10I just don't know why we had to move the ball any farther when we were already in range
07:15in a situation where we knock it through the uprights.
07:17It's over.
07:20That's the question.
07:21You were at the 24 yard line with 55 seconds and you don't get a kickoff.
07:26Yeah.
07:26You don't get an attempt.
07:29You don't get an attempt.
07:32Zeke is in Southeast.
07:33Zeke, what's up, bud?
07:35Hey, what's up guys?
07:36How you doing?
07:37What up, brother?
07:37I totally disagree with you guys.
07:40I give 0% blame to Dan Quinn.
07:44Dan Quinn, as a coach, all he can do is get your team in a position to win and put
07:48the
07:48ball in the best player's hand.
07:50100% of the blame goes to J.D.
07:53Fyre.
07:54He had an awesome game.
07:55Any other quarterback, we would have said that's a dumb decision.
07:58You got to throw the ball away, not try to pick.
08:01He tried to pick up yards.
08:02Nobody told him to do that.
08:03That was his own instinct.
08:05He had been sent it.
08:06The play was designed to go to Ben Sennett.
08:08If he's not there, open, throw the ball away.
08:11Easy.
08:12He is 100% of the blame.
08:15Not the coach.
08:16You put you in a position to win.
08:17Now you're saying, well, why didn't they spike the ball, whatever?
08:20He was supposed to spike the ball.
08:22Throw it away.
08:23He didn't do it.
08:24I don't buy that, Zeke.
08:25I don't think that's how that play worked.
08:27Brian, just like the guy on the Giants that fumbled.
08:31He was trying to make a play.
08:33He didn't have to try to make a play.
08:35And he could have cost his team the game.
08:38J.D. was trying to do the same thing.
08:40Make a play.
08:40He didn't have to try to make a play.
08:42I know he had a wonderful game.
08:44I think he made a mistake.
08:46I didn't throw the ball away.
08:47You don't think there was a play called into his helmet?
08:50I don't think that play should have.
08:51It was called to go to Ben Sennett.
08:53If he's not open, throw it away.
08:55Yes, it was called.
08:56And he could have easily thrown it away.
08:58Fair.
08:59But why even run the play?
09:01My question is, why run that last play?
09:03That's what I've been asking since yesterday.
09:05It was run.
09:06If he was executed like they told him to, we wouldn't be talking about it right now.
09:10That's an assumption.
09:11You'd think they told him to do that.
09:12But I'm just wondering why the last play was snapped.
09:14Come on, Brian.
09:14Who would tell him to run the ball in that situation?
09:18I'm just wondering why was the last play even snapped.
09:21Don't even put him in that position.
09:22Just kick the ball.
09:25This guy's one of your smartest players in the league.
09:28You would think that he would know to throw the ball away.
09:30I understand what you're saying, Zeke, but I've seen quarterbacks in way more years than
09:34he has do some things that don't make sense.
09:38I'm not going to expect him to know everything, but you might be the quarterback.
09:42You're still told plays and situations by coaches.
09:45I asked Dan Quinn yesterday.
09:47I appreciate the call, Zeke.
09:48It's always good to hear from you, man.
09:49All right.
09:52I asked Dan Quinn last night what was going through his head at the end of that game.
09:57And he said, well, knowing that we don't have timeouts, I'm wanting just to get, you know,
10:01the ball clocked.
10:02So as the time's going down, it's not a good feeling knowing that this moment's going to
10:06be slipping through our fingers.
10:09And could Jaden have thrown the ball away?
10:12Absolutely.
10:12I am sure somewhere in the chaos of that end of game scenario and the play they ran, it
10:19was, yo, if Ben's not there, just toss it, right?
10:21But then he gets tripped up.
10:23He's facing pressure.
10:24He runs.
10:25Don't put him in the position you didn't need to run the play.
10:29You didn't need to go from, you didn't need to waste 38 seconds before you snap it.
10:34But there's so much that was also done in that scenario that by decision makers that
10:42weren't Jaden Daniels, that put Jaden Daniels in a really difficult scenario.
10:46Yeah.
10:47Like, I'm not sure.
10:49I don't think Jaden handled the last snap of that game very well, but there's a zillion
10:54factors prior to that snap that probably could have won the game.
10:58Yeah.
10:59I just got a text that said Jaden should have just overruled the coaches, overpowered
11:03the coaches.
11:04Bro.
11:07If the, everything happened the way it was supposed to happen, you don't snap a play.
11:12You snap and you do this.
11:15Throw it straight down.
11:18So, I love how people are just what you're supposed to do.
11:21You're supposed to listen to what the coaches are saying, and then you're not supposed to
11:24listen to what the coaches are saying.
11:26If I'm told to run a play, I'm going to run a play.
11:29In all essence, that play should have been clocked immediately and have 13 seconds or
11:35whatever on the clock.
11:36It wasn't.
11:37So, I would have to believe that that message of clock, clock, clock was not sent.
11:46I mean, Trey Burks goes out at the 26.
11:52A hell of a play by Trey Burks.
11:54Little catch, breaks a couple tackles.
11:55Big boy's a DB on the sideline.
11:57He's out of bounds.
11:58The clock stopped with a minute and two seconds at the 26-yard line.
12:02You could have kicked it right there.
12:04You could have, with a minute, two?
12:07Stevens, where do you like it?
12:08Left side?
12:09Right side?
12:10Hash?
12:10Center of the field?
12:11Where do you think the grass is driest?
12:14Tell us exactly where you want it, Drew.
12:16And then Jayden dives to that spot.
12:18And you could clock it then and kick it with 38 seconds on the clock.
12:24It all comes down when people want to make a comment about the exact last play.
12:30I'm looking at 55 to 13.
12:35That's 42 seconds, right?
12:37Why did those seconds just go how they did?
12:42I don't have that answer, Brian.
12:43And that answer is not on Jayden.
12:47And that answer is significant.
12:51Johnny is in Charlotte.
12:53Johnny, what's up, man?
12:55Yeah, I know that it's easy to look at the last play.
12:58But how can we be up 14 with seven and a half minutes left?
13:03Fourth and seven.
13:04And we have Deron Payne dropping into coverage.
13:07He's the nearest guy to Isaiah Likely.
13:09He finished with 11 catches on fourth and seven.
13:12You make any of those stops, and we're not even talking about overtime.
13:14We're not talking about anything else.
13:16They're up 14 with seven and a half minutes left.
13:18And I know he was the number one overall pick.
13:20But I was in art class when he was the number one overall pick.
13:23That was 12 years ago.
13:24And James Winston, you can't let him shred us for 300-plus yards.
13:29Agree with that.
13:30Agree with that.
13:31You're up 14 with eight minutes to play.
13:33Oh, my God.
13:35It's mind-blowing.
13:36Good call, man.
13:37Thank you, Johnny.
13:38Let's go to Alton is in Richmond.
13:43Alton, what's up, dude?
13:44What's your blame pie look like?
13:46Yeah, my blame pie is Pierce, Pusion, and Dan Quinn because I was at the game yesterday.
13:54And everybody that was up there right beside me was like, what is this dude doing?
14:00The dude almost dropped the ball in 24 in the Tampa Bay game when they waited until three seconds, then
14:06Cade Neal.
14:08You cannot keep going through with you trying to get this closer.
14:12You want to get closer for your kicker to kick.
14:15You want to do this.
14:16Your kicker in the Seattle game, I was there, kicked a 57-yard field goal.
14:20How the hell do you not put him out there for to try to kick a 43-yard field goal
14:25from 26-yard line?
14:26There was no sense in this man keeping having excuses, and then everybody keeps saying that they shouldn't let him
14:33go or they shouldn't fight.
14:34That dude should have been gone with the stupid stuff that they did in the Dallas game.
14:39He should have been gone then.
14:40Everybody keeps saying, no, no, we ain't going, you know, it's too early in the season to let go.
14:46No, let him go because what are you doing by keeping him there?
14:50You're doing nothing but having fans to scroll, having players, having three-and-outs all the time because he has
14:56no clue to what he's doing.
14:57And then everybody keeps taking up for him.
14:59There's no blame on Cade Neal, there's blame on Adam Peters and him because Adam Peters should have put people
15:04on the defense.
15:05He should have got people on the defense, in that offense for Cade.
15:09He wouldn't probably be in the predicament that he's in now.
15:14Appreciate the call, Alton.
15:16I appreciate it, man.
15:17I don't think a change is coming.
15:18Do you?
15:20No, not right now.
15:25But how does that impact a locker room, Brian, when you know those players?
15:29Like, we all saw the – people were making a big deal that Sam Cosby kicked the pylon.
15:34He was pissed off.
15:35He was walking to the locker room and he kicked the pylon.
15:37Like, that's a zero out of ten.
15:40Some of the stuff we focus our attention on makes no sense to me.
15:42But, listen, lost game, it's a blame out there for somebody.
15:47So, to hell, whoever the blame is, we lost.
15:49I mean, we tied the game.
15:51Whoever's to blame is to blame.
15:53But my ultimate thing is, eventually, you have to move past it.
15:57By another hour or so, right?
15:59What?
15:59I'm serious.
16:01Those players did a good job of not publicly voicing how they felt.
16:06Players are never going to sit up there and point the fingers to, let me just be real,
16:12to further someone else's narrative or to give somebody else something to go run with.
16:16They're not going to give you that answer.
16:19Privately, though.
16:20When they go to dinner last night or their text thread, whatever that was.
16:23They may have their text, their thing, but they're not going to tell the people that are going to run
16:26out
16:26and want to just plaster to try to separate a team.
16:29Agreed.
16:29They're not giving it to them.
16:30But how does that impact the player's confidence in the coaching staff,
16:35to have a game finish like that?
16:36Because it's got to have some impact.
16:38Even if you flush it a day or two later, it's got to have some impact.
16:42And now they have to sit on it an extra day because they play Monday Night Football.
16:46Yeah.
16:46They're not even back on the practice field until Thursday.
16:50I hope they're out there before Thursday.
16:52They're not officially out there until Thursday.
16:55They have to walk through something, film study.
16:59They'll have something like Wednesday privately.
17:02They just don't have to have us out there.
17:05Tim is in Philadelphia.
17:07What's up, Timmy?
17:08Yeah.
17:09Hey, so for Blaine Pye, I don't know how it's not all Dan Quinn.
17:15He's not in charge of the offense.
17:16He's not in charge of the defense.
17:18He's supposed to have his team prepared to play.
17:21He's supposed to handle clock management.
17:23I spent eight years as a college coach,
17:25and my job was to have my athletes prepared for the moment when the moment
17:30arrived, and we've never been ready for that moment.
17:33It's been how many games now where we get on these radio shows the next day,
17:38and we say, what was Dan Quinn thinking here?
17:40It's a never-ending cycle, and it's not going to change anytime soon,
17:44so we might as well get ready to move on,
17:47because that's exactly what will happen eventually this season.
17:49Thank you, guys.
17:50Bye, Bill.
17:51Thanks, dude.
17:52Again, I don't believe they're going to make a change.
17:56I understand why people are calling with their frustration about making a change.
18:00This is – I have now covered a handful of ties.
18:06This is by far the most disastrous one, period.
18:09Yeah.
18:09They snatched the tie from the jaws of victory.
18:13You're listening to B. Mitch and Finley.
