00:00I like to have a conversation called Call Your Shot.
00:03They've obviously got a big, big game coming up.
00:06And for Washington to get a win, they're five-and-a-half-point underdogs, right?
00:10Like, Vegas sees the Rams as the better team.
00:13If you just look at the rosters, the Rams would be considered the better roster.
00:18The Rams were in the NFC title game last year.
00:21Washington won five games.
00:23Like, there's reasons to understand where Vegas sees this game going.
00:28And the line has moved a little, down to four-and-a-half now from five-and-a-half.
00:32Kind of interesting.
00:34For Washington to win this game, they're going to need big games from big-time players.
00:39It is a Call Your Shot Thursday.
00:41Who do you think is going to have a big game?
00:43Call your shot.
00:44How does it all shake out?
00:45We'll start with Jeremiah in Fairfax.
00:47What's up, Jeremiah?
00:49Hey, how y'all doing?
00:49Thank you for taking my call.
00:51So, I got one for each side of the ball.
00:53I think on offense, the person who really needs to have a big game is Chigakonkwo.
00:56So, the Rams aren't super deep at linebacker.
00:59And on top of that, I have been doing some research.
01:01Their third down passing defense has not been great.
01:05So, if you get into, like, third and five, four, I think that's prime Chig territory.
01:09And then on defense, I think the whole defensive line needs to step up.
01:12Stafford is still an elite quarterback, but he does not have what he used to the past few years.
01:17Just when it comes to his physical, I guess, limitations.
01:19If the D-line can put some pressure on him early, especially how they've been starting kind of sluggish in
01:23their games this year,
01:24I think that'll set the tone and kind of rattle him the whole game.
01:27And, of course, you can't really get it to Puka on those long balls if the D-line's getting there
01:31in time.
01:31So, those are my shots, but thanks for taking my call.
01:33Good call, Jerry.
01:34Thank you, Jeremiah.
01:37I've been saying that all week.
01:38Every time somebody asks me about what I think, I say Stafford is not going to move.
01:41You know where he's going to be, and you've got to get pressure on him.
01:44You can't allow him to anchor and sit there.
01:48Totally.
01:49I got to talk to Odafe Owe yesterday, and he said when you play a team like the Rams,
01:55you've got to earn the right to get a sack because you know they're going to line up big and
01:59heavy.
01:5912, 13 personnel, maybe some 14, like Logan was saying.
02:03They're going to have extra big bodies on the field protecting their quarterback
02:07and trying to get that downhill run game going.
02:10So, yeah, the D-line needs to have a big-ass game.
02:13800-636-1067.
02:16800-636-1067.
02:19I know some folks wanted to weigh in on the Jaden.
02:21Does he not take enough risk stuff, too?
02:23You can do that here, too, because there's a lot going on.
02:26Let's go to Jonesy in D.C.
02:27Jonesy, what's up, man?
02:30Hey, what's up, fellas?
02:31How y'all doing today?
02:32We are good, brother.
02:34I know that's right.
02:35Sound good.
02:36Hey, listen, I'm thinking, first of all, with the Jaden thing and Lowski, Dan Lowski,
02:42I don't really like him too much, you know what I'm saying?
02:45Because he's always saying some flimsy things about the team from Jump Street.
02:49You know, it's a people conversation with that, but I ain't got that much time.
02:53So, I'm going to go ahead and move on and say Jaden going to be all right.
02:56He is constantly evolving, man.
02:59You know what I'm saying?
03:00And he's still in the building stages of his career.
03:02So, he's all right.
03:04As long as we win games, I'm happy.
03:06I don't care how he do it.
03:08No, we win.
03:09We win.
03:09But the guy who needs to have a nice big game, and I'm shooting my shot at him, is Amik
03:16Robertson.
03:16That dude's been playing.
03:17I'm on his mind.
03:19And Kayla's on chase.
03:21He's another one.
03:2245.
03:23My two guys are on defense.
03:25Offense, they're going to get it together, man.
03:28And I'm calling it now.
03:29And I'm going with Chad and Stephon.
03:31I'm out, fellas.
03:32Y'all have a good day.
03:34All right, brother.
03:34Appreciate the call, man.
03:35Good stuff there.
03:37I do think defending Puka Nakua is going to be of the foremost priorities here.
03:46And Puka, I believe, is the second leading receiver in the NFL.
03:49I think JSN's at the top of the list.
03:52They go to Puka double digits.
03:55Yeah.
03:56And I think you'll have to be on top of that.
03:58Now, Puka get a lot of targets.
04:02He may get four, five, he may get seven, eight yards a touch.
04:06He doesn't, like, blow it wide open, but you got to be able to be there for him and don't
04:10allow him a chance to get one and then make a big play out of it.
04:14Jeff, if I recall, I believe you said Puka Nakua when we did our goats last week.
04:19You had Puka as the best player in football.
04:21Do I recall that correctly?
04:22Yes, you do.
04:23How do you see Washington slowing down Puka?
04:26Call your shot, Mr. Walker.
04:28I see Washington slowing down Puka Nakua by putting pressure on that quarterback so it's
04:34hard for him to get the ball to Puka Nakua.
04:36And if it is, if he does get it to Puka, it's a bad throw.
04:40It's like a system that just all got to fall in place.
04:42If it all fall in place like it did versus the Seahawks, we'll be all right.
04:49I'd go one step further than Jeff, call my shot here.
04:53I think for this to work for Washington, they got to be able to run the ball, and they really
04:59haven't this year.
05:01You have seen a commitment at times to running the ball where they get the carries, but the
05:06third down woes have been consistent offensively.
05:10I think one of the best things they can do here is stay on the field and try to control
05:14time of possession.
05:16Offensively, right now, they're 31st in the NFL converting third downs to first downs.
05:21And I think this game, that's got to look significantly higher.
05:24I don't know that Robert Henry gives you the spark.
05:26Speaking of Robert Henry, where's our guy?
05:28I'm shocked that dude hasn't called in yet.
05:30He's waiting.
05:31The president of the Robert Henry fan club has been vindicated in some ways by them
05:36bringing him back from the Seattle practice squad.
05:39Look, man.
05:40I did get to talk to Robert for a minute yesterday in the locker room.
05:43His excitement is so genuine, and it's easy to root for that young dude.
05:49Undrafted free agent out of UTSA.
05:50But think about it.
05:52The nature of this thing is getting first downs and moving the chains.
05:56And I think people always talk about taking the risk, making the right plays.
06:02If number five, run and get some first downs when they think they got everybody covered
06:06down the field, that's a risk for me.
06:09That's taking that chance.
06:10That's moving the ball for your team.
06:12That's what the game is about.
06:13The game is not about appeasing everybody out there.
06:16The game is about getting first downs consistently.
06:19If it's on the first down, you scramble for something.
06:21Third down, you scramble for something.
06:23Whatever.
06:23Keep getting first downs.
06:25Joey Sabat, our intrepid producer for Monumental Sports, has texted me.
06:30He said, I'm calling my shot with Trey Amos.
06:32If he can lock in on Puka Nakua, the defense has such an easier job.
06:38It's interesting.
06:40Amos is 6'1"-ish, long arms.
06:43I think physically, like tail of the tape, if you will, he might be the matchup that makes
06:51sense for Nakua, but I think from a physicality standpoint, not the measurables, but just
06:57the way they play, Amik might be the guy.
07:01Because Puka's super physical and Amik matches that.
07:04Now Puka's going to have, I don't know, five inches on Amik and a number of pounds.
07:09You have a combination.
07:11Sometimes it may be Trey, other times it may be Amik.
07:15But I think you've got to make him think.
07:17Let's go to Byron in San Antonio.
07:19What's up, B?
07:21How are you guys doing today?
07:23We are good.
07:24Good, man.
07:24How are you?
07:26Too blessed to be stressed.
07:29I would like to see them play Joseph and Chason on the end, so we can get some more pressure
07:34on the quarterback.
07:37And Dan Oloski has done what in his career?
07:41Nothing.
07:41So why are we even listening to that?
07:43You can still be a good analyst without accomplishing, without an accomplishing.
07:47He's not.
07:47I think Charles Davis is one of the best football analysts out there.
07:52I really like Daniel Jeremiah.
07:54Neither of them had accomplished NFL careers.
07:57And then the next comment will be, let's go ahead and get ahead of the quarterback signing
08:03and go ahead and sign Daniel.
08:05So I understand we've got a fifth year on him, but you could save some money if you sign
08:11him early and have him to think that we signed him to a big contract before the other two
08:17signs.
08:17Y'all have a good one.
08:18You're not, nobody's eligible to sign until you complete your third year.
08:23So it's not like they could do it now and they're waiting.
08:27None of it can happen until the offseason anyway.
08:29That's the contractual structure of the CBA.
08:32It's a good call, though.
08:33I appreciate you, Byron.
08:34Let's go to our guy Shane in Fairfax.
08:36What's up, Shane?
08:38All ears.
08:39B. Mitch, how you guys doing today?
08:40What's happening, man?
08:42First of all, Dan shows you how professional he is.
08:45He didn't get our J.D.'s name right, right?
08:47So that just shows you how professional he is as a journalism, all ears.
08:52I mean, just disrespect.
08:54I mean, you can't get, I mean, how disrespectful, number one, is that?
08:57Just as a person, right?
09:00You're supposed to be good at your job and you failed at that and you failed at
09:02quarterback.
09:03So I get what the last caller said.
09:05But number two, J.D.'s got to go out there and ball out.
09:08He's got to go out there and he's got to use his legs because, look,
09:11this pass rush in that front four is going to be hell on all offensive lines.
09:16So, you know, he's got to make plays with his feet.
09:18And it's got to be Nick Cross.
09:20Nick Cross on the defense has got to come down.
09:21He's got to help on the run support.
09:23Our safeties has got to help on the run because that's what they're going to do.
09:26I believe the Rams are going to try to do their will and run the football
09:30down our trope.
09:31And our safeties have got to play the pass, right?
09:35And they've got to help on the run.
09:37And our safeties have got to ball out this week for us to win.
09:40And special teams, again, special teams was awesome last week.
09:44If we can get something in that nature to flip the field maybe once or twice,
09:48that's a big game.
09:49That's a big turnaround.
09:50So Luke has got to have a big game on special teams as well.
09:53Hell, maybe return one to the house.
09:55We've got to have something.
09:56I agree.
09:57You'd love specials to be a difference.
10:00And in games like this, like the Seattle game, another NFC West team that came here,
10:06the other part of that NFC Championship game last year was the Rams and the Seahawks, right?
10:13And Washington got the win and played their most complete game of the year.
10:16And they got a score on defense.
10:18Sometimes you need other elements of your team to step up to get big wins like this.
10:24I think so.
10:25And, listen, if they just play some complimentary football,
10:29and they give me four quarters of play, hell, let's get four quarters of play
10:33and let it fall away as may.
10:36Keep the phone lines going here.
10:38My guy Cody down in Texas.
10:39Cody, what up?
10:41What's going on, boys?
10:42I was just going to let you all know.
10:43I came to the game on Sunday, and it was super cool.
10:47Me and my brother came up.
10:48He's a big Cowboys fan, but we had a good time at the game.
10:51It was cool.
10:52We got there early.
10:52I didn't know Jaden was as big of a fan guy as he is.
10:56I watched a lot of the – I mean, I stayed pretty close to the game.
10:58It was so cool.
10:59He was taking pictures with all the fans.
11:01I even saw somebody bring out an LSU jersey,
11:03and my brother didn't think he was going to sign it, and he did.
11:06So everybody was pretty – thought that was pretty funny.
11:08But I really want to call my shot on maybe the O-line, I think,
11:11with Miles Garrett might be coming back.
11:12It's looking like he's trending that way.
11:15It was pretty scary on the game when we saw Jaden hit that –
11:18you can just feel it.
11:20The whole crowd felt it, and he got back up, and everybody was happy.
11:22But with all the elbow going on, we want to make sure he stays pretty healthy.
11:26But I think we need a good game from the O-line and keep it clean
11:30and keep the pocket for him.
11:31So just call my shot for them.
11:33All right.
11:33That's a good call, man.
11:35Glad you enjoyed the game.
11:36Jaden is great with fans and signing autographs and taking pictures,
11:39whatever it is folks are looking for.
11:40He's always very good about that.
11:42Phone number 800-636-1067.
11:45800-636-1067.
11:48Brian, how concerned are you about Aaron Donald and Miles Garrett?
11:55Assuming Miles Garrett plays.
11:56I mean, I haven't seen him play enough this year together to be really overly
12:00concerned about him.
12:01I've seen Aaron Donald as – who was it earlier?
12:05I think it was what Logan said.
12:07Aaron Donald has been better in the run game than he did with the pass rush.
12:11And Miles hadn't been on the football field.
12:13So, you know, coming back at first game, we're going to find out.
12:17But I'm not overly concerned about either one of them right now.
12:21Stallion, I believe you said Miles Garrett, even with missing significant time this year,
12:26is the best player in football.
12:27How concerned are you about Miles Garrett coming back potentially on Sunday?
12:31I'm very concerned because I think that he is probably one of the most dominant game
12:36wreckers on defense.
12:39Like, I just think that right now – it depends.
12:41Like, if he's 100% healthy, then, like, that is a major issue.
12:44But if he's still kind of, like, gimping around there a little bit, you could probably
12:48double-team him.
12:49But still, an 85% Miles Garrett is still better than most players out there.
12:54So, I think he's going to be a concern regardless of the situation.
12:57I think that's fair.
12:59I think one of the reasons you trade for a guy like Laramie Tunsil is for games where
13:05you've got to go up against guys like Miles Garrett.
13:07And they don't have Laramie Tunsil.
13:12We'll see what version this is of Miles.
13:14I don't think – I don't think he's playing unless he feels he can be himself.
13:20And I think it will be more of a snap count, pitch count, than it will be he's not able
13:25to go.
13:27The Commander's run game has struggled.
13:29I think Aaron Donald – and there are other players on that Rams D.
13:33Like, I'm not trying to simplify it too much.
13:37Washington's going to have their hands full, man.
13:39Clearly.
13:39Like, for me to call my shot, unfortunately – like, last week I liked their chances to
13:46win.
13:46I thought they were better than Philly.
13:48The injuries were significant for Philly.
13:50I think the Rams are the better team in this game.
13:53I think for them to win, Jaden Daniels has to be excellent.
13:57And he's shown he can do that at times.
13:59And we'll find out.
14:01Let's go to Donnie in Mitchellville.
14:03What's up, Donnie?
14:05Hey, what's up?
14:06Yeah, I'm being missed.
14:07And my – it's kind of like a question.
14:08Like, I wonder, like, we talk about Puka going off.
14:11If Puka started going off and he was cooking a meek and he was cooking Amos, would they – could
14:18I shoot a shot for Tyler Owens?
14:19Could Tyler Owens get on the field and get any reps?
14:21Like, what do you got to do to get an opportunity, B-Mitch?
14:24So, I understand Bounders are getting hurt.
14:25Now, my question was, Sandestill, Sandestill went out.
14:29Who took his place?
14:30I didn't even notice.
14:31Well, you got – you had Meek, Rasul, all those guys are playing corner.
14:36Owens is a safety.
14:37And, you know, I just – I know what he's doing on special teams.
14:41And that's one mindset.
14:44But just to be able to make those calls and be in the right position all the time,
14:48I don't know if he's necessarily ready for it yet.
14:50But I think once he hits it, he's going to be on the field.
14:53And he won't get off it.
14:56Appreciate the call.
14:57B, have you heard the rumors of a Mikey Sammerstil trade?
15:00Nope.
15:03That was reported somewhere, and I don't know the validity of it,
15:07but I found that interesting.
15:11Bro, you know, NFL, we talk about players being arrogant and cocky.
15:15The GMs and coaches are the most arrogant and cocky people out there.
15:19They always think they can fix somebody.
15:21Here was Albert Breer on Mikey Sammerstil with the trade deadline coming up.
15:29Albert Breer wrote,
15:32I'm not saying, again, that the commanders are looking to move him,
15:34but he's somebody that the more people I've talked to,
15:36the more it seems like he could be available as sort of like a bit of a reclamation project.
15:40He's got outside-inside versatility.
15:42He's probably better inside, but he's somebody that you could add to your secondary.
15:46I'm talking about the Lions here who have a depleted secondary.
15:49Again, would that be a little redundant with Brian Branch?
15:51You've got to play Sammerstil a little bit outside more than maybe you want to.
15:54Is that a functional thing?
15:56Those are the questions you've got to answer,
15:58but I think Mike Sammerstil could be somebody the Lions could look at,
16:01so they're certainly looking for help at that position.
16:05It's interesting.
16:07You go back to Michigan, maybe that matters or is good for him.
16:12I think a lot of trade discussion will center on what happened Sunday.
16:17Yeah.
16:18Will is in Clinton.
16:19What's up, Will?
16:20Call your shot, buddy.
16:22Gentlemen, how you guys doing?
16:23What's up, man?
16:24I think it should be.
16:25I think it's all on the D-line, stopping that run.
16:29I think they've got to maybe put eight in the box or whatever they've got to do
16:33to stop that run.
16:35But my thing on this Jaden thing,
16:38I've always understood that the name of the game was protecting the ball,
16:42but now they want them to force the ball and throw kicks.
16:45And my one question is, who leads the league in interceptions right now?
16:52I don't know offhand.
16:54I'm trying to think who I would even guess.
16:59Hold on.
17:00Let me see.
17:01Stafford had what?
17:02Six?
17:03Eight?
17:05Eight.
17:05Stafford has eight.
17:06I think it's Darnold.
17:08Darnold?
17:08Double digits?
17:11I can double-check on that.
17:12I'm pulling it right now.
17:14All right.
17:15League leader in interceptions is Justin Herbert.
17:22Justin Herbert, through seven games, has ten picks.
17:25And that's the guy that Orlowski say is the face of the league last year.
17:31Five touchdowns, ten picks for Justin Herbert.
17:33Daniel Jones, five touchdowns, nine picks.
17:36Sam Darnold, ten touchdowns, nine picks.
17:39Matt Stafford, 15 touchdowns, eight picks.
17:42Drake May, 15 touchdowns, eight picks.
17:45Jacoby Brissett, ten touchdowns, seven picks.
17:49Then there's a bunch of guys with six.
17:51I mean, you've got to go way down this list to find Jaden because he's thrown zero.
17:56You are listening to Beamich and Finley.
17:57We'll keep the phone lines going,
17:59and we're going to talk some Washington Spirit ahead of their playoff game this weekend at 1245.
18:04It is Beamich and Finley.
18:06Are you tired of the Jaden Daniels not taking enough risks narrative?
