00:00Not during an October to remember.
00:02An October to remember.
00:04An October you'll never be able to forget.
00:08It's throwing me off here.
00:09I was sick two weeks ago, and it's still, overnights, it's still getting me.
00:13So I apologize.
00:15The screaming has to be brought to a minimum.
00:18Game three today, I feel good.
00:20I think Guardians fans should feel good.
00:22It does take some of the teeth out of it that it's not a six o'clock start.
00:27I like day playoff games.
00:29I just do.
00:30But if you're doing it five hours before it was originally scheduled,
00:35you're going to have some empty sections.
00:36I caught some hell yesterday.
00:38I'm like, well, you've got to check the timestamp.
00:40I said it two hours before they decided to move the game up.
00:43I'm sorry.
00:44I didn't realize.
00:45I wonder if people have been sent scramble.
00:47I've seen so many people advertising that they can't use the tickets now,
00:52so that means people could not get off work.
00:53That sucks.
00:54I feel bad for that.
00:55The other thing was the game was never sold out.
00:57But for whatever reason, I know people talk about the dynamic pricing.
01:02They have complained about this.
01:05They said the tickets that originally came out were so expensive.
01:08Guys, it was $300 to get into the upper deck.
01:11Yes.
01:12Yeah.
01:12If you want to go to the game, you're going to do it any normal.
01:16I'm not breaking any secrets here.
01:18You're going to go and wait for the market to fall.
01:20That was not on the secondary, though.
01:21No.
01:22Or I'm saying that was on the secondary.
01:24That wasn't from the box office.
01:25There's a big difference.
01:26I think there's a lot of fans.
01:28I think there's a lot of listeners.
01:29They only look at the secondary market.
01:32Yeah.
01:32Because that's where they're going to find their best price.
01:34They literally, it's called the ballpark app, guys.
01:36It's the way that you get into games.
01:39It's easy to go on there and see what they're charging for tickets themselves.
01:42I understand.
01:43They even have a little slider where you say,
01:44oh, I only want to pay this much money.
01:46And then you set that to that, and they will show you what tickets are available
01:49for the amount of money you have to spend.
01:50Well, what if there's no tickets available for the amount of money
01:52that they wanted to spend?
01:53I know it's $99 to get in.
01:55What do you want?
01:56You want a $5 ticket?
01:57It's the ALCS.
01:58Oh, and I'm just giving you what people were yelling about yesterday.
02:01That's all I'm saying.
02:01I have the ballpark app.
02:04I haven't bought tickets in a long time.
02:06I know that.
02:07Okay.
02:07So don't come yelling at me about it.
02:09I do nothing wrong.
02:10Yeah, I buy a lot of tickets a lot of times.
02:13There's more than one way to skin a cat or get into an ALCS game.
02:17I'm just giving you the vast majority of the people's complaints,
02:21is that when you see $300, you're going to go,
02:24hold on, I'm not going to pay $300 now.
02:27I'll pay $100 later on as the game appears.
02:31I just didn't think we were going to have,
02:33before the game was moved up to 1 o'clock,
02:36I didn't think we were going to have this vast swath of sections of empty seats
02:41the way that some people were making it out to be.
02:44Because to me, sitting there and doing that and having that old sports talk radio trope,
02:50it's something I try to avoid at all costs.
02:52It's one of the things we try to avoid at all costs.
02:54At no point was I blaming the fans about any of this.
02:57And that's ridiculous.
02:58It'll happen if there are empty sections.
03:01Like, yeah, people are going to go nuts watching the game from all over the country.
03:04So did the bump up in the game actually make you feel better, though,
03:08about the Guardians' chances?
03:09Oh, you know, I would have liked a more raucous, lubed-up crowd at night.
03:14I think that would have been very cool for all parties involved.
03:17I don't know whether that would be a real advantage, though,
03:22once they actually hit the field.
03:23I'm looking at this as a three-game set.
03:25I mean, today, it is what it is, the day game.
03:28I, you know, for our schedule, it's awesome.
03:30Yeah, I'm going.
03:31My wife's taking a half day.
03:32She's meeting me down here.
03:33But the thing I am worried, so the game we're talking about
03:38potentially having to move is tomorrow's game.
03:41Saturday's game is an 8 p.m. start right now.
03:45And then on Sunday, who knows what time they're going to play.
03:48But are you going to play 8 p.m., 8 p.m., get on an airplane,
03:51fly to Tampa potentially for a game six, and then 8 p.m. again?
03:57I think they very well might.
03:59They might just tell them to suck it up.
04:00That's where all this – so today's game, to me, doesn't really matter.
04:04The weather, though, as a total could be a real situation,
04:09although it could mean that you get Parker Messick earlier,
04:13and it could mean that you get, you know, Gavin again
04:18in more than just a two-inning relief appearance,
04:21but actually to go close down a series.
04:24Yeah, I mean, that would help.
04:26And if you could get more of those guys, I do think of the timing,
04:29like the timing would suck of it, having to play an 8 o'clock game
04:32and then fly and then have to go play a back-to-back 8 o'clock game.
04:36But I think they might just tell you for TV purposes to suck it up,
04:39this is what we're going to do,
04:40especially if the Brewers have already clinched
04:42and you're the only game going on.
04:44They might just go, well, this is our TV window
04:46and this is what we're going to do,
04:47and our TV partner wants us to do this.
04:49And obviously they're giving us a billion dollars,
04:51and you're just going to do it because this is a giant television show to them.
04:54To us, it's not life or death, but it's damn close.
04:58I mean, a lot of people care about it.
04:59It's as close to life and death as I...
05:00As sports are going to be.
05:01Yeah.
05:02I mean, honestly, especially if you're listening to this show right now,
05:06sports obviously matter a lot in your life,
05:08and it becomes, in the ALCS, it becomes life and death.
05:11Well, especially because it's been 78 years,
05:13so how many people were actually alive the last time they won a World Series?
05:16It's been a long-ass time.
05:17So this is as close to real serious consequences as pro sports can find
05:25when it comes to the general fan base and hoping that their team wins.
05:29If it was at 6 o'clock, I felt good just for timing.
05:32I was like, okay, everything is going to be here.
05:34I can take the notes and this, that, and the other.
05:361 o'clock, yeah, it makes it a little bit easier,
05:38but also it is just I do feel great with Gavin Williams up on the mound,
05:43and I do feel even better with Gavin Williams on the mound
05:46and all these statistics to back up that he's better at home,
05:49he's better in the daytime, those things are going to be able to help him.
05:52You're going up against a guy that has had numerous,
05:56I mean numerous, 27 outings against the Guardians,
06:00but he's been a relief pitcher.
06:01At one-inning stance.
06:02Yes, at one-inning stance, he's been pretty successful against you.
06:05Hopefully get a chance to go through it and see what he's got.
06:08So there's opportunities here to get to Tampa
06:11where I think that Gavin Williams is,
06:13that first inning is always going to be tough
06:15because you want to get him settled down and have everything right,
06:17but if you get through the first inning and everything's okay
06:20and you get a zero up on the board, then I think away we go.
06:23I really do.
06:25Would be unbelievable.
06:27I keep focusing on neutralizing the start of that order,
06:30the top of the order for the Rays
06:32because they look like a completely different team
06:34when those guys are hitting
06:35and when they are not coming through with runners in scoring position.
06:37They had a bit of a problem in the Yankees series,
06:40even though they swept the Yankees.
06:42They actually did have problems with runners in scoring position.
06:45That's the lifeblood of their lineup.
06:47Once you get past top four, you feel a lot better about things,
06:51and I think that Gavin has the stuff.
06:54He has that mentality.
06:57We saw it in your winner go home,
07:00or winner stay home game five against the White Sox.
07:02That guy is a guy you're betting on.
07:04You feel good about regardless of who he's going up against.
07:07I hate saying this out loud
07:10because things can change so quickly in a series,
07:13but when I saw the two games in Tampa,
07:15I'm not terrified of that team.
07:19I guess I should say yet, but I'm not terrified of them.
07:22They didn't do anything offensively.
07:24I mean, guys, it was an error.
07:26We made an error, and then we hung one out there
07:28that they hit to the gap.
07:29We don't make the error.
07:31Who knows how that game goes, how it turns out,
07:33but they haven't done anything offensively
07:35that makes me worry about their lineup at all,
07:37and really, we saw their best pitcher,
07:40and we had 14 hits that game.
07:42It wasn't all against him, but in that game,
07:44that guy that's supposed to be their ace
07:46that's supposed to help them through things.
07:48Now, we're going to see him again.
07:49I don't know if we're going to get to him
07:51multiple times again like that,
07:53but their offense does nothing to really make me worry right now.
07:58Well, the horse is dead.
07:59I don't mean to bring it up again,
08:00but eventually we might run into this problem again,
08:02especially if we're going to get Parker Messick
08:04possibly on Sunday.
08:05Austin Hedges, it was brought up to me,
08:08I thought it was a pretty good point,
08:09after the error by Jose Ramirez,
08:13should he have went out there and talked to Parker Messick
08:15to calm him down considering it's his personal catcher?
08:18Probably.
08:19I mean, that's why you have,
08:21there are rules against how many mound visits
08:23even as a team without Carl coming out
08:25or a vote coming out,
08:27but yeah, probably when you're the old guy on the field, right,
08:32and the guy that everyone presumes
08:33is going to be the manager of a ball club one day
08:37and you've been charged with making sure
08:39you bring the rookie pitcher along,
08:42it's your job to do.
08:43And is there a scenario that plays out
08:45where he might have wanted to
08:47and they might have held him off because of,
08:48I have no, like that I don't know.
08:50That I don't know.
08:51Like both guys that had problems in game two,
08:54see, this is the issue.
08:55If you had a guy that you just didn't care about
08:57make the errors or a guy that isn't a fan favorite,
09:01yeah, I think some people would be upset.
09:02I think we're obviously much more understanding
09:04where an icon, a legend, a beloved figure
09:08has a gaffe in Jose Ramirez
09:10and then a guy who's very well liked by the fan base
09:13in Austin Hedges has a little bit of a gaffe
09:16and the problem was with 95% of the fans,
09:20the problem was is that he just,
09:21there was no challenge on the 2-2 call.
09:24Not the going out there,
09:25which when it's brought up by the baseball people
09:27that you talk to, it's like,
09:28you know what?
09:29That's actually a really good point.
09:30You only, if you settle down,
09:32you get the next out,
09:32it's only a one run inning,
09:34things are called down, off we go.
09:36Yes, early.
09:38The White Sox, the series before,
09:40in game four, they challenged two pitches,
09:42like consecutive pitches in the third inning.
09:45Lost their challenges, right?
09:46Yes.
09:46And then in game four,
09:47they did it as well, right?
09:48And in the fourth inning,
09:50in a series in which you have a 1-0 lead,
09:52if this was game six,
09:54probably a totally different scenario.
09:56You're up 1-0 in a series,
09:57it's a nothing-nothing game.
10:00To me, not challenging,
10:02not that big of a deal.
10:03But then in game five,
10:04the White Sox,
10:04because of what had happened earlier in the series,
10:06victimized by the bad challenges,
10:08were reluctant to challenge anything.
10:10We got people who want to get in on this.
10:11It's a mess with their heads.
10:12I want to get to some of you guys.
10:132-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
10:15And the vast majority of players have agents.
10:18But boy, I got to tell you,
10:20Shador picked a hell of a time to hire his.
