Want to check MBR or GPT from the command line? DiskPart can show your disk's partition style in just a few commandsโ€”but be careful, because some DiskPart commands can erase data!

You can quickly check whether a disk uses GPT or MBR with the built-in Windows DiskPart utility.

Steps:
Open Command Prompt or Windows Terminal as Administrator.
Type:
diskpart
Then type:
list disk
Look at the GPT column.

If you see an asterisk (*) in the GPT column, that disk is using GPT.

If there is no asterisk, the disk is generally using MBR.

โš ๏ธ Important: DiskPart includes powerful commands that can modify or erase disks. Commands such as clean and convert should only be used when you understand exactly what they do and have appropriate backups.
