00:00From news and notes to the coaches and players for America's team, let us go Inside the Star on 105
00:07.3 The Fan.
00:10PP in the morning coming up at 6.40, an all-time college football kegger at 7.
00:16Bobby's post, Hutt Clarity, and restudying the film of the Cowboys' loss at 7.20.
00:24Ask Greta at 7.40.
00:25I think my big takeaway from this is we will get it fixed.
00:28I don't know how, but we will get it fixed.
00:31Steven Jones chopping wood yesterday with the KNC Masterpiece.
00:35And the fellas, they're going to be in prime time for the interviews this week because they're going to get
00:39Jerry for the first time on Friday because Jerry is not coming on with us today at 8.30 because
00:45of NFL meetings.
00:46We got that late last week, not after they ended up losing to Green Bay.
00:51And KNC asked Steven if Schottenheimer's seat is warming up.
00:57Absolutely.
00:59Wait, let me...
01:00Oh, breaking news!
01:02Oh, man, wow!
01:05E-me.
01:06That's an E-me.
01:07E-me.
01:08Bad job by me right there with the setup.
01:11Is Brian Schottenheimer, Steven Jones, still the right man for the job?
01:16Absolutely.
01:16There we go.
01:17There's not any question in Jerry and I's mind.
01:20I think, you know, the team, he has the team.
01:25There's no question they want to go out there and execute and make things happen and feel really good, as
01:33I've mentioned throughout this conversation, about our coaching staff.
01:37We just have to continue to have it evolve and get to a point where we can win these football
01:43games.
01:44Steven's running out of cliches because yesterday everyone went ahead and tweeted what he was going to say in that
01:51interview.
01:52And it is now just a case of rinse and repeat.
01:55Jerry, if he was on today, for some reason, Jerry Jones this year, someone has gotten in his ear saying,
02:01The one thing you need to stress, above all else, is that they are watching a lot of film and
02:07they're working on it.
02:08Every time Jerry comes on, he's like, I assure you they're working.
02:11Okay, cool.
02:13Nice.
02:13Awesome.
02:14Thanks.
02:14I assure you no one's studying it harder and they're losing sleep and they're leaving their families and they're in
02:20that facility.
02:21They're watching.
02:22They're trying to figure it out.
02:23Okay.
02:24Cool.
02:25Maybe that's because that's what they're getting repeated in the meetings when they're asking for that.
02:29What's going on?
02:30Oh, we're working.
02:31We're working hard.
02:32We're here all hours of the night.
02:33Instead of game film, they're showing security cameras film of when they're leaving the facility and how late they are.
02:39They're putting it up there for Jerry to see Christian Parker leaving at 2.30 a.m.
02:43Yeah, and still not figuring it out.
02:45Still not sure how to slow things down as much hours as they're putting in.
02:48So the media took that to Schottenheimer for the 5 p.m. press conference in Frisco and asked him,
02:54Did you need to hear that vote of confidence from Steven about your job status?
02:59No, not really.
03:00I mean, I think at the end of the day, I'm focused on the process of turning this around for
03:05myself, the players.
03:07You know, certainly not good enough.
03:10We're disappointed with where we're at.
03:12We know we need to play better.
03:13We know we can play better.
03:16And, you know, I think at the end of the day, we've got the right guys to do that.
03:20I put up a poll question yesterday.
03:21I was pretty surprised over the results when I asked who you attribute the Cowboys' recent offensive struggles to.
03:29The four options, the quarterback, the head coach slash play caller, the offensive line, the overrated offensive line, with protection,
03:41or D, all of it.
03:43How do you think that vote went, RJ Choppy?
03:46It's fans, which I think mirrors maybe some of what we said yesterday.
03:51I will say they put it on the coach play caller number one.
03:57You're kind of correct.
03:59This was a two-horse race.
04:00Head coach and play caller got 44% of the vote.
04:04All of it very measured.
04:06Nice balanced response.
04:08All of it got 50%, and then the other two got 1% and 4%.
04:12Only 4% blaming Dak Prescott, which stunned me because no matter what Dak topic it is on the Internet,
04:20it usually ends up 50-50, and then only 1.5% blaming the offensive line.
04:26So all of it, number one.
04:27Then the head coach play caller, Schottenheimer, number two with 44.
04:30Noromo fans must be aging out of the demographic that uses social media because they used to be you could
04:38ask any question like that.
04:39Half the response was going to be Dak, no matter what was going on, because they were never going to
04:43accept it.
04:44And I think, honestly, Dak earns more than 4% of the last two weeks.
04:49That's definitely more on him than just 4% in these last two games.
04:53But, yeah, I mean, line item one, biggest issue right now facing this team or biggest number one person that
05:01needs to figure things out probably is Brian Schottenheimer.
05:04Or Christian Parker, just coaching staff in general.
05:07They've got to figure it out because they're not doing a good enough job.
05:09And Schottenheimer says he and the team are angry.
05:13I'd say right now I'm pretty pissed off.
05:15You're pissed off?
05:16I'm pissed off, yeah.
05:18But you said they're a little bit.
05:21I think they're pissed off, too.
05:22So, yeah, we're ready for a win.
05:25Are they pissed off at the right things?
05:27What's that mean?
05:28They might just be mad at us because we're right and that things aren't going well.
05:32No, I think, yeah, we understand you guys have a job to do.
05:36And like I said, you know, I'll never not take accountability for the fact that we're 2-4.
05:43It's not what we planned on being.
05:44That's not where the standard of what we're trying to do is.
05:47But, again, you know, I think at the end of the day, these guys are focused on the right things.
05:53And that's it.
05:54We've got to play better.
05:55We've got to coach better.
05:56And it needs to start this week against Philadelphia.
05:59That's a good follow-up.
06:01Oh, Todd was on.
06:03Either he doesn't understand.
06:05If he doesn't understand, that's concerning.
06:06But I think it's more likely, what do you mean?
06:09What are they?
06:11What could they be pissed off about that they shouldn't be focused on?
06:14And it's like a lot of that locker room does get pissed off when it's just, man, everybody's just saying
06:19bad stuff about us.
06:20And they get their feelings hurt instead of actually going, yeah, we're pissed off at ourselves.
06:25I think Quinnen Williams, when he's pissed off, is pissed off at themselves.
06:28I think he's pissed off that they're not playing well.
06:30I think Dak usually gets pissed off at themselves.
06:32But there's a lot of guys in there.
06:34Donovan Wilson used to be, like, victim number one in that locker room in terms of just mad that people
06:41were talking bad.
06:42When it's like, you guys have sucked.
06:44What do you want to be said about you?
06:46Yeah.
06:47And the rest of my notes on the press conference from Schottenheimer, he is attributing and blaming a lot of
06:53their offensive struggles to playing catch-up in the second half.
06:57He said this three different times.
06:59By the way, Archer, he was on one yesterday when Brian's like, we got the right guys.
07:04We got the right effort.
07:05Todd's like, how do you have the right guys?
07:08Doesn't this show that you don't?
07:09Then he talked about changes, maybe Clayton Adams calling plays.
07:13Schottenheimer didn't really get into that too much.
07:15But he attributed a lot of the offensive struggles to second half catch-up.
07:19My response back to that is, part of the reason you are down recently is because your side of the
07:27ball isn't putting anything up on the scoreboard.
07:29You were shut out in the first half.
07:31So if it was 17-7, if it was 17-10, you don't have to have this issue of major
07:37second half catch-up.
07:39But you got blanked.
07:40Shut out the first half.
07:41And then the week before, you score a very quick touchdown.
07:45You march down the field.
07:47And then the rest of the half, you ran 19 plays on four possessions.
07:54You had the touchdown.
07:56And then you go five plays, five plays, three plays on your next three drives.
08:03Like that's, yeah, I mean, of course you're going to be down.
08:09And they were still ahead, right?
08:10They were still ahead in that half against Tampa.
08:12Said rushing attempts, blitz, and pressure all get tougher when you were down there in that second half.
08:20Why did you just run the ball nonstop, excuse me, pass the ball nonstop after the Javante touchdown?
08:26And he said, they're daring us to throw.
08:31And I had to stop down for a second and repeat that and replay it.
08:36And I said, he just, he said they're daring us to run, right?
08:39He said, no, daring us to throw.
08:44And I was like, damn, if you told me before the season that defenses would say, go ahead.
08:52You got Dak, Lamb, and Pickens, dare you to throw it.
08:56Go ahead, beat us through the air.
08:58I'd be like, ha, cash money.
09:00Sign me up.
09:01Are you kidding me?
09:02That's exactly what I would want you to do.
09:04So Schottenheimer said that.
09:06But, Bobby, is that what you saw?
09:08We don't want to ruin post-hug clarity too much.
09:11But if that's the case, why?
09:12Why would they dare you to throw?
09:13Because I think, like, for instance, I literally just, I didn't even bother.
09:16I just went and clicked on a play in the third quarter yesterday.
09:18Or I just went and clicked on a third quarter.
09:20That's a look you throw into.
09:22Like, they're all up at the line of scrimmage.
09:24There's, like, a single high safety.
09:27They may drop one at the snap.
09:28I don't even know which play this is.
09:29I literally just clicked a random one.
09:31But that's a look that you have to throw into.
09:33They looked like that most of the second half.
09:35And it's partially because they know they got to play catch up.
09:38Let's start blitzing after them.
09:40Let's get, you know, let's attack them.
09:41Let's go after them.
09:42They were sending a lot of pressure.
09:45And there was a lot of instances where it's six, seven guys up on the defensive line.
09:51And then they're sending everybody.
09:54Nobody's dropping.
09:55It's not a disguise.
09:56Everybody's going.
09:56And so, I think a lot of it, it's not necessarily a, hey, we want you to go ahead and
10:05throw the ball on us all day long.
10:07It's more like teams just are right now trying to get after Dak.
10:11And Stephen Jones was asked by KNC.
10:13I don't know how this would be possible to be surprised by it after Tampa and what Jonathan Gannon have
10:19done to you.
10:20Did you expect Green Bay to blitz that much?
10:22Yeah, I mean, I think it's, you know, if you look up at Minnesota and the job Flores is doing,
10:27you know, with the pressure packages,
10:30I think he's on an unprecedented rate of pressures for play up there.
10:38And obviously having a lot of success doing it.
10:41This is a copycat league.
10:42And then, of course, to see Todd Bowles last week have success against us, you know, with the pressures,
10:51I think we can sure expect to get a heavy dose of it going forward.
10:55All right.
10:55So, we took it to Todd, or Brian Flores.
10:59Flores.
11:00Don't think he'll be the next head coach of the Cowboys moving forward.
11:04But what about throwing the pickings?
11:08Brian Schottenheimer was asked why you can't get him going early on in these games.
11:16Yeah, we need to.
11:17Yeah, no, we need to.
11:18I mean, I think that's fair.
11:19We need to move him around more.
11:22Again, I think when you look at GP, he's able to move around.
11:26We just got to do a better job of moving around with the design, put him in different spots.
11:30But they're certainly paying attention to him.
11:32They're certainly finding him.
11:34And this team was no different.
11:36You can see him pointing and calling him out.
11:37And that's a sign of respect.
11:39What you love about GP is his ability to keep working and find ways to make plays late.
11:45All we heard about in the offseason was George Pickens moving.
11:48George Pickens wanted the move.
11:49They want him.
11:50How can you take a next step offensively?
11:52George Pickens moving.
11:53Have they been doing that throughout the season?
11:55Not a ton.
11:56I mean, they've moved him around some.
11:58But, I mean, it's been more frequently than they did last year.
12:02But, I mean, still, it's why aren't you getting him the ball?
12:05The question is not we've got to start funneling the ball more.
12:08It's like, yeah, we've got to start moving him around because he's not getting open.
12:12He's not getting open right now.
12:13A wide receiver did weigh in that used to play.
12:16Did it feel like he had 11 targets?
12:19No.
12:20Didn't feel like close to that.
12:2111?
12:21Yeah.
12:22But, I mean, that's out of 55.
12:24He was getting one out of every, like, five throws in the second half.
12:27Yeah.
12:27CD had 18.
12:29Didn't feel like that either.
12:31Well, then again, like, targets could be, like, technically Pickens was targeted on that overthrow a couple of weeks ago.
12:39My next poll question will be about George Pickens and why he isn't putting up the numbers like we saw
12:45last season.
12:46Because, oh, man, you got the Pickens fan club out there, and they don't want to hear it.
12:52As you have Chris Collinsworth or Ben DiNucci or Bobby Belt re-watching this stuff and saying he is not
13:00doing his best off the line of scrimmage in terms of route running.
13:04Oh, God.
13:05Oh, George Pickens' Twitter.
13:07They just go nuts.
13:08So what is it?
13:10If you don't want to blame Dak, are you saying it's Brian Schottenheimer?
13:14Like, just not wanting to get George Pickens the football?
13:17I do agree.
13:19Schottenheimer needs to scheme it up better.
13:21But if you talk about George Pickens' effort in route running, the hive gets stirred.
13:25If I have to scheme you up, I'm not paying you $30 million.
13:28And nobody else is either.
13:30If I got to scheme you open, you're not getting paid.
13:32Well, doesn't everyone get schemed open?
13:33Mm-mm.
13:34Chase doesn't get schemed open.
13:36CD doesn't get schemed open.
13:37CD will get put in the slot, but CD just gets open.
13:41Like, Pickens has got to get open at some point.
