00:00you guys can hear thursday night football tomorrow right here on 92.3 the fan
00:05patriots bears our next guest is actually going to be part of that uh that call and he joins us
00:11every single wednesday here on the wise heart right we make it right call kyle wright hotline
00:15and this nfl insider call is presented by nationwide for your insurance and financial
00:20needs nationwide is on your side ross welcome to the show buddy what do you mean part of the call
00:28i'm like i'm like the the the main feature i'm like the star of the call okay mr ego i
00:35mean
00:36your profile is pretty high right now it's pretty high here and i'd like i can say that i think
00:41if
00:41you say it it's a little i mean we're we're in the we're in the heartland here ross
00:48you know the truth is and i mean this in all sincerity if you've ever listened to a game
00:53on the radio and i know a lot of people driving around right now have without question the star
01:00of a of a radio broadcast is the play-by-play guy there is nothing more frustrating than when you're
01:07driving around and the color analyst is talking so much that you don't know what the score is
01:13or where the ball is or who has it tv is different i think tv is kind of more the
01:19color analyst
01:20showing you inside or telling you something you didn't see and having to show it to you on a
01:25replay but radio the play-by-play guy is way way more important because you really just want to know
01:33more than anything like where is the ball what's the score how much time's left and then if the other
01:39joker who's me can add a little bit of something that's nice but that's not that's not the crux of
01:45it
01:45i think from the radio side of things i think maybe you try and pull uh joe tate joe tate
01:51was a
01:51legendary calves announcer who was who did play-by-play but he would also be his own analyst
01:57and i think ross tucker the play-by-play man with a splash of analysis could be very very lucrative
02:03in
02:03the radio game you know play-by-play especially radio that is that's an art and that is a lot
02:13of
02:13talking and a lot of descriptive words and now i'd prefer to just watch the play and then tell you
02:20what i thought simple enough all right uh you know ross it's funny about 40 minutes ago we got into
02:26a
02:27a beautiful loss and whether that can be a thing or not and it's it's it really has come from
02:32the
02:32idea that the browns have had some ugly wins which we all agree you take ugly wins over beautiful losses
02:37the game i brought to the table was jacksonville's 34 to 31 loss to the texans because of like seven
02:43different reasons trevor lawrence throwing for as many yards as he did jacksonville gaining 400 yards
02:47of offense scoring 31 points or racing a 10 point deficit the travis hunter plays and then i was
02:53reminded of albert breer a couple weeks ago telling us he thought the raiders chiefs game that was
02:58considered a beautiful loss do you buy into that or is a loss just a loss and it stinks and
03:03there's no
03:03good ever to come from it beautiful seems like a strange word i mean i i think there's i think
03:11there's
03:12other words we could use uh acceptable loss quality loss um impressive loss beautiful loss i don't know
03:26i mean i i i guess if you do score a lot of points and your offense plays really well
03:33you could say that
03:34you know they performed beautifully in the loss i suppose but yeah i don't know i i but you agree
03:43that you agree that there's a good one that came up with the beautiful loss part of the beautiful part
03:46of it that was i said good loss was initially yeah i was being a sarcastic a-hole yeah so
03:51you agree
03:51there can be such a thing as a good loss because i i'm trying to make the argument that it
03:55demonstrates
03:55things that make you more optimistic about your team going forward
04:00yeah i again i don't i don't i don't even love the word good um but i what i what
04:07i will say is
04:08not all losses are the same i mean there are bad losses where you blow a lead there are bad
04:16losses
04:16where you know you really play poorly or make some critical errors you know the commanders recently had a
04:24bad tie i mean a really really bad tie um meanwhile for other teams there are there are times i
04:31think
04:31if you're a really bad team and you play against a much better team and you play at their level
04:37and
04:37the game can go either way i think that that i think that that's uh a quality loss is how
04:43i would
04:44describe it i think ross tucker odyssey nfl insider with us here nationwide is so much more than a great
04:50insurance company they're one of america's largest financial service companies as well
04:55nationwide is on your side i think my thing is it seems like we've gone past the just win baby
05:03mentality and now in a game against the titans it feels like uh you better win this one but you're
05:10not going to get a lot of credit if you win it meanwhile you're going to get a lot of
05:14uh blame if
05:15you lose it and i just i hate those propositions when six weeks ago most of the people on this
05:21station were picking this to be a four or five win season understood and i think from that standpoint
05:30that is what comes along with success this would be a bad loss for the browns i don't care
05:36how you any way you look at it especially for a titan team that's coming off finally getting a win
05:44but i'm doing colts vikings on sunday for cbs so i watched every snap of colts titans the titans are
05:53not good i mean they had 186 yards of offense in that game that the colts had 400 they won
06:00because
06:01daniel jones threw two picks john and taylor fumbled they had a punt return almost for a touchdown
06:06they had a block punt for a touchdown they are not a good team and if the browns are serious
06:13about being in this thing until the end which i think they can be and about maybe even making
06:19the playoffs or being there at the afc north you can't lose this game you cannot lose this game
06:24you know you can't be a serious contender if you're losing to the jets and the titans and teams like
06:30that i mean the wins they've had at home over the steelers and the panthers and the ravens are
06:36amazing but it's almost like you you cancel those out if you lose to some of these other teams
06:43yeah no i agree like i just think the titans are so bad like this is the game you have
06:47to win this
06:48game and you can't really settle for anything less and what i've called for though is i want more than
06:54just a every win the browns have this year ross is by four or fewer points uh at what point
07:00are
07:00we're going to see this browns team actually put an exclamation point on one of these games
07:06yeah i don't know that's a good question um i don't know that this is going to be the week
07:12because the titans defense is pretty decent but it's possible i will say i mean first of all if
07:21you could get to sean watson to just engage fourth quarter mode a little bit earlier you know that might
07:27help i also think the fact that jerry judy made some plays concepcion made some plays
07:34they're kind of getting closer they're kind of getting closer in the sense that you know the
07:39ravens have a really good defense so if you have a bunch of these guys all making plays now you
07:45just
07:45kind of have to have them all make plays at once and not settle for field goals then maybe they
07:50can
07:50have a little bit more breathing room on a victory ross obviously one of the biggest stories
07:56in this matchup that that hasn't had anything to do on the field was former browns defensive tackle
08:02and uh now former titans defensive tackle jordan elliott uh trying to go to his uh the player's lot
08:10and and get a get his gun after an altercation at a titans practice i'm not sure if you saw
08:16robert
08:17sala address the matter today but he addressed it head-on and admitted exactly what i just said is what
08:23happened here i'm curious if you think the nfl is going to respond and if you you think maybe
08:28jordan uh elliott will will see some sort of punishment from the nfl
08:36that's a good question you know i mean getting fired's a pretty pretty big punishment you know i
08:43i really have no idea nick i don't know if there's any precedent for this situation or if there's any
08:50um other situations where they've gone this way the interesting thing about it is you know robert
08:57sala talked about um suicides and guys having you know uh needing to talk to somebody i i don't know
09:08if the nfl will discipline him if if that part of it happens you know if if if he does
09:16um need some help
09:18with whatever the situation is i don't know that they would also discipline him especially since
09:26i would not anticipate him getting signed anytime soon so you're talking about a guy that he offends
09:35he uh essentially suspended himself
09:40so with this ross because i know you know you're not just a former nfl player and analyst i know
09:45you
09:45talk to a lot of former players um and this is less of a you know potential critique of the
09:51nfl it's
09:52more of like a i like a a think tank kind of approach to this are there things that when
09:58you
09:59talk to former nfl players like yourself that you guys think that maybe the nfl can help this kind of
10:05situation with jordan elliott's to avoid you know you know not not necessarily what happened this week
10:11but obviously help players through these mental health issues in real time
10:17yeah and they're doing it and it's light years different than it was when i was playing 20 years ago
10:23i mean light years every team now has to have a team psychologist so every team in the building
10:32this only started like five to ten years ago and as of five years ago i think there were still
10:39only a handful
10:40of teams doing it now my understanding is that it's mandatory and every team has a psychologist
10:48that players coaches can talk to whenever they need it so they've made tremendous progress
10:57in that area and i gotta tell you it's really it's really a good thing you know i'll tell you
11:06guys
11:07something um do you guys have a hard out when does it end nick uh you got about another 45
11:12to 60
11:14seconds if you got it oh okay so the short version is when i was 23 for the cowboys thought
11:21we thought
11:22i lost the game for us against the 49ers i really struggled that night 23 in department in dallas by
11:30myself watched every news show all night to see if they were blaming me for the loss and to watch
11:37the play
11:37where i didn't block danis double field called my girlfriend now wife three or four times called my
11:44parents three or four times did not sleep one second the entire night finally went in the facility at
11:514 a.m because i had to watch the play i could not sleep until i at least watched the
11:55play um
11:56it's it's a lot you know that's a lot of pressure to have on very young men ross we always
12:03appreciate
