00:00one of the reasons why i was so dismissive of the idea of needing now it's cool if you want
00:06one but
00:06needing a statement win by the browns was quite frankly every win is a statement win and every
00:13win just keeps the momentum going and that allows you to have a positive environment and that allows
00:20players to grow better right like all of the things that come just from winning in and of itself
00:26begats more winning so i like i do think this is something that i think is is something worthy of
00:31taking note of i just think now it becomes how do you sustain it how do you keep this going
00:37and i
00:38think that does involve deshaun more than just being a good teammate off the field yeah but at least
00:44you know i don't know i do you get reassured hearing these type of things like i like hearing these
00:49type
00:49of things i do i like hearing that deshaun is making the extra effort and deshaun is uh really wrapping
00:54his arms around being that presidential quarterback role that exists in the nfl i i don't know why it
01:00just it does it does do something for me as far as understanding deshaun a little bit better but also
01:05being like all right he gets it you are you are the you're the main guy here so it's twofold
01:10all right
01:11because on one hand i think this is the kind of pr uh image control that i think deshaun's camp
01:17should
01:18be doing so i don't think it was a coincidence that it was deshaun's wife jilly that sent these these
01:23pictures out you could tell i just by listening to him it sounded like he was frustrated that more
01:29things that they've done hadn't gotten out yeah as he referenced it he said oh we've been hanging out
01:33like this since the spring we've been doing all these things and he mentioned he referenced the
01:36ball game that they all went to him and jared verse like he like you can tell i think he's
01:40a
01:40little he was a little cognizant of the idea that people aren't aware of how much effort he is putting
01:45in well it's just interesting like i thought the uh taylor rooks interview on amazon prime
01:52around the steelers game i thought that was i thought that was a heavy-handed unnecessary
01:58treatment of the deshaun pr saga right um because you can't tell the deshaun's coming back story
02:07without saying the biggest part of his story you can't if you just make it about the injury it's
02:12insincere and that's exactly how it came off by the way i'm not trying to relitigate that i think my
02:17point is deshaun's camp has tried to do a lot of things in the name of pr rehabilitation that have
02:23just not hit they just haven't and they felt gross they have felt uh they felt one-sided or skewed
02:32or
02:32missing some of the actual context it's because everything he had done seemed like it was very
02:37self-serving no exactly this doesn't well that's why it's playing a hundred percent and that's why like
02:43my message to deshaun's camp is and certainly the browns these things are home runs for fans
02:50if you want people to like deshaun if you're worried that people might if he has another bad
02:55game people might boom again right the next time he's home these are the kind of things that i do
03:00think play with fans because they're not just performative things they are oh there's actually
03:07a connection on this that's something the the brotherhood of the nfl can be sold in a way that
03:13is both serving deshaun and the narrative you want out there while also giving the fans what
03:19i think is something at least adjacent to real well and remember uh remember the movie draft day with
03:24it was bo callahan with the uh the birthday party and people didn't show up to that like it sounds
03:29it sounds stupid to base a whole movie off of people not showing up to his birthday party but the
03:33underlining point there is exactly what we're discussing like deshaun people want to hang out with
03:37deshaun these players want to go to hang out at deshaun's house and and so like there's there's
03:43inroads that have been made but it's also very public for all of us to see and just to you
03:48you
03:48uh you mentioned deshaun actually let's go ahead and play deshaun talking about hanging out after
03:53the ravens win here just to illustrate what you're talking about earlier i mean it's great i mean we
03:57hanging outside the building getting to know each other playing cards just hanging out talking ball
04:02talking about life getting to know each other so it was really cool it's good you know the guys
04:06always know that my house is always open so you know whenever they want to come by and hang out
04:10you know we can do it every week so it's really just you know the timing of everything and when
04:14guys are free and i think i do not recall a lot of these moments pre this year uh meaning
04:22like you
04:23know even and i know deshaun has done philanthropic things but visiting local programs right stuff that
04:29we talked about how much we liked that we saw from shador the first two years here i i don't
04:34recall a
04:35lot of those things deshaun seemed to be an insulated guy and i'm not just talking about
04:40like from the fans it felt like there was a gap or some sort of distance by the end of
04:47that the
04:48second injury there it felt like there was a gap between deshaun and the locker room well so he
04:54highlighted that today too by the way like the the point you're getting at and i actually it just
04:58until he spelled it out i've always kind of had the understanding i think we all have but until he
05:02spelled it out where he goes he goes 2022 when i get here uh i'm obviously going away from the
05:07team
05:07for the first 11 weeks he says 2023 was the team that we really bonded and really got along great
05:11and everything was awesome and then he goes 24 i was doing rehab last year i was barely here because
05:16i was doing rehab and he goes like if you spell it out he basically he's only had really one
05:21season
05:22as a chance to really kind of bond with people as is and even that got disrupted and at some
05:27point
05:27in the middle of that there was real friction between deshaun and miles garrett and you know
05:33like i think some of those things have been reported i don't think all of them were and so i
05:38think it's
05:38like all of this is my way of coming back to this is good stuff to hear and again there's
05:45good pr and
05:45there's bad pr there's forced pr and there's natural pr i think this is the kind of stuff that to
05:51to
05:52ingratiate himself to more browns fans i think this is the kind of stuff browns fans actually want
05:58to hear and and i do think like at some point whether it's in that locker room or with those
06:04fans i do think more will be required of deshaun but i think in terms of starting to rebuild the
06:10bridge for people who that can be rebuilt i don't think deshaun will ever be my quarterback i'm sorry
06:16there's a million reasons why and all of them are valid and i understand that there's people out
06:20there who will say he's the quarterback of the browns but he might not be my quarterback
06:25i don't think i'm in the majority i think there's plenty of browns fans who want to build the bridge
06:30to trust town with deshaun well i think this kind of stuff at least in the beginning this is how
06:35you
06:35start to build that bridge yeah i mean no question about it i it just it just it's different uh
06:41but i
06:41think the i think the genuine nature of it is i think what's hitting people in the right way and
06:46it
06:46just it doesn't feel forced it doesn't feel like it's contrived it feels like it feels like
06:50deshaun just living and this is how the result of that i think that's what is making people
06:54resonate with it so the reason why we're playing some of this audio is because i do think it's
06:59apparent i don't think it's up for debate this has become deshaun's team and i think it's really
07:05interesting that we've gotten there and again the four and two start i think is is a huge help and
07:10assist to that i think what will be really interesting and i don't know that i definitively
07:14feel one way or another is i know at some point for fans they're expecting another gear from deshaun
07:21like winning won't be enough it might not be enough for uh some certain browns fans out there the
07:27conversations are already going on uh how many people have already said he's playing like a
07:31backup he's not playing good enough he's not doing his own part the defense is bailing him out like
07:35these conversations are already starting to percolate but what i think is interesting is in that locker
07:40room and it's a different locker room like i do think a big reason why some of the things have
07:46gone on in a positive light is you cleared out that locker room of some of the veterans including
07:52the biggest name of them all in miles garrett but i think i think there was a changing of a
07:56guard that
07:57i think has helped change some of the cultural stuff in that locker room for the better for deshaun
08:02it still is a bottom line business and so i'm really fascinated of you know winning is the cure-all
08:10that's something todd monkett has said repeatedly when it has come to deshaun watson status uh outside
08:15of that locker room i think it's gonna be really interesting to see is there a point this year
08:19where all of a sudden the defense does think what the hell's going on with this offense yeah or you
08:24lose a close game and it's clear that the offense should have done their part or that deshaun didn't
08:28do his part sure because i in whatever i think in a fair amount of the the i mean the
08:33the jacksonville
08:34game is so far away and it seems like such an anomaly in terms of competitiveness but even the jets
08:39game like i didn't come out of that blaming uh deshaun no in fact we ended up making excuses for
08:44deshaun so like i do wonder if there's a point where again what is happening on the field whether
08:50guys in that locker room need to see it more and i don't know i'm just suggesting i've heard a
08:55lot
08:55about yep winning cures all winning and having a quarterback that at some point starts to look like
09:02a starting quarterback all four quarters might be something that has to eventually play this year in
09:08that locker room and what happens when you hit adversity too like the one thing i've been
09:10consistent on with deshaun is i really do think he understands how to do this when things are going
09:14well he did it at clemson he did it in houston it's when he hits those potholes or when he
09:19hits
09:19those skid marks that's when you got to find out because that's where he's failed the test with the
09:23browns 216 474 0092 so i think we can all agree as of right now this is deshaun's team but
09:30does deshaun
09:30have to play better to keep this as deshaun's team i think it would be silly just to imagine
09:37that if he's playing the same way six weeks from now even if they are a gosh let's say eight
09:43win
09:43team that the status quo is going to be enough in that locker room because at some point you got
09:50to feel like in that locker room you can more do more than beat the titans and you know beat
09:55uh
09:55the ravens without lamar let's go with scott in cleveland welcome to the show scott what's going
10:00on um i just want to say like what if the formula is just fourth quarter game winning football right
10:10so the ravens scored 10 points in the first quarter at that point i put the game on as background
10:17and then i see our defense holding them oh they're still not scoring and they win the game same thing
10:23with a few games from earlier jacksonville is horrible who we faced after that uh we had another
10:29game winning drive two two drives one to fanner one to blake whitehart uh you got denzel boston
10:36for a score even in the jest game he scored but then we kind of lost it due to a
10:40bad snap
10:41so let's just what is just the game plan is fourth quarter game winning football and on top of that
10:48what i want to ask is this if at this point if we play like we've been playing at max
10:54i think we
10:55get to like the maximum is like 10 wins so i guess on top of that if we keep playing
11:02game winning
11:03fourth quarter football what would you rather do or what do you think the browns are more likely to do
11:11let deshaun walk in free agency or assign him to a one-year contract uh all right so there's a
11:19there's a lot there scott you're loading it up there scott now specifically the last part remember
11:24it would be cutting him or trading him it wouldn't be letting him go in free agency so they have
11:30to
11:30they have to deal with that contract at some point early in the offseason because there's a huge
11:36uh uh bonus if if if he's still in the contract effort to a certain point so it's it's not
11:43he's
11:43not going to free agency they have to either cut him trade him or extend him this off you rework
11:48the
11:48contract if you want to keep him around you rework the contract what you do and now i do both
11:51parties
11:52agree to it like i i think the answer really depends on what's out there um if there is a
11:58veteran
11:58quarterback a la a sam darnold the browns might opt to just go with a different veteran quarterback
12:03next year and see where this thing goes if there isn't a strong veteran presence and the browns
12:09look at the draft and think all right we want to go ahead and take one of these guys with
12:13the top
12:13five top 10 top 20 pick i think deshaun probably would be the guy that is the bridge quarterback to
12:19that next quarterback even if it only means starting the next eight games the next year oh again within
12:23this too they might also decide they don't even want a bridge quarterback uh they might just want to
12:26throw whatever quarterback they draft right on the field i mean there's a lot of different ways that
12:30they could do this they're going to have a lot of different options i i think it's going to be
12:34by
12:34the time we get to the end of the season i think it's going to be painfully obvious what you
12:37have to
12:37do also i don't think todd munkin the todd father is thinking to himself our game plan is pulling a
12:45win
12:46out of our rectum for every fourth quarter no i don't think that's a game plan i think that happens
12:52in the fourth quarter you want to tap into the fourth quarter whatever whatever he called that what it's
12:57how did scott phrase that like the fourth quarter game winning drive-ness of it all if you knew how
13:01to tap into that you'd be doing it for all four quarters it's got to be infuriating to the browns
13:05people inside that building for why the first three quarters are absolute disaster and then the fourth
13:10quarter looks amazing
13:11you
