00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for epic Easter eggs and hidden
00:04secrets from Episodes 3 and 4 of Vision Quest. We'll be getting into spoilers for these episodes,
00:10as well as various other MCU projects, so consider this your warning.
00:14Mommy was a lonely witch, and then one very special night in New Jersey,
00:18she conjured you up and your magical twin brother.
00:22None of that was real. He doesn't need to be poisoned by fantasy.
00:27Number 10. What's Banner busy with?
00:30Episode 3, titled Reboot, makes it immediately clear that Vision is going through it.
00:35While still reeling from adamantium bullets, he and Tommy think of options for saving him.
00:40During this, Vision name-drops Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, but explains that Banner is preoccupied.
00:45There are only two people who could possibly repair me, and one of them died saving the universe,
00:49the other is Dr. Banner.
00:51With what, though? You see, where Vision Quest falls in the timeline is a little ambiguous.
00:56It's after WandaVision and Agatha all along for sure, but the rest is sort of fuzzy.
01:02Banner could still be teaching kids at Empire State University.
01:05Have you got a minute? I wanted to talk to you about your inhibitor.
01:09Oh, sure. Don't worry. It's got fail-safes.
01:13I'm not going to turn into the big green raging monster machine in the cafeteria.
01:17Or, if this is after Spider-Man Brand New Day, twiddling his thumbs in prison.
01:21Or, maybe already dealing with Doom.
01:24The Banner line may seem like a fun reference at first, but it's also an unofficial game of Find the
01:30Missing Scientist.
01:31Good luck with that, Peter.
01:38Number 9. Daredevils, Werewolves, and More
01:41Buckle up, everybody.
01:43Paladin's post-mission debrief is a treasure trove of Easter eggs.
01:47While tending to his wounds, his quirky assistant reminds him of several very valuable nuggets of info.
01:52We find out that he got his adamantium bullets from the Ten Ring Syndicate, which is a nod to the
01:58Mandarin.
01:58And also learn about Paladin's other skirmishes.
02:01Shall I send a gift basket to the Ten Ring Syndicate, thanking them for the adamantium chest armor?
02:06The fancy one with the pears.
02:07Consider it done.
02:08These include a possible disagreement with Punisher, a butt-whooping from Daredevil, and a battle against a werewolf.
02:14The wolf in question is probably werewolf by night, but part of us really hopes Paladin beefed with man-wolf.
02:20You pulled a fistful of shrapnel from that IED out if you got?
02:23Just a punishing disagreement with an old friend.
02:25Right, and the bite marks from that thing that was halfway between a man and a wolf?
02:28Perfectly reasonable fella by day.
02:30Remember the concussion you got from that steel-fiber billy club you took to the noggin?
02:34If you can't take the heat, stay out of Hell's Kitchen.
02:37He's another Marvel werewolf who actually happens to be J. Jonah Jameson's son.
02:52Yeah, probably not the exact wolf the MCU's thinking about, but hey, that will be our headcanon going forward.
02:59Number 8. Friday Remembers Endgame
03:01If you think about it, these AIs have been around the block for a while,
03:05hiding in plain sight for so long that we've all forgotten they've witnessed a lot.
03:10Friday, for example, reminds us that she was an active part of Avengers Endgame.
03:14I was there, at the end of all things.
03:19There were heroes everywhere, fighting and falling and...
03:27I was there when Tony died.
03:29That's because she was the primary AI system that Tony Stark relied on
03:32when he was slugging it out against Thanos and his horde of evildoers.
03:37Okay, dork. Hit me.
03:46Unfortunately, Friday's not just spending her time reliving the glory days.
03:50She brings up Tony's sacrifice and essentially reveals how lonely she feels.
03:55Half the world came back that day.
04:00Am I lost half of mine?
04:02We're not used to chatbots trauma dumping,
04:05but anyone can tell that Friday is struggling.
04:07None of us can change the past,
04:09but hey, the future's still yet to be written.
04:12Friday getting emotional over Avengers Endgame isn't too surprising.
04:16It was a super impactful superhero movie.
04:18And if you love hearing about the best cape flicks, then you're in luck.
04:22We break down all sorts of comic book movies on WatchMojo's 24-7 livestream.

04:37Number 7. Vision and Tommy's Multiple Talks
04:41Even super intelligent robots don't always know what to say.
04:44That is especially evident when Vision tries having a heart-to-heart with Tommy.
04:48His son wants answers, but Vision doesn't give very good ones.
04:51And we see that in numerous different simulations.
04:55I was a copy of Vision meant to kill Maximoff.
04:58So none of it was real?
05:00My memories are his, but not my experience.
05:03It just makes no sense when life was just a simulation of American sitcoms.
05:08Well, it felt pretty real to me.
05:10Can we take a second to also emphasize the lighting?
05:12Vision is surrounded by heavy purples,
05:15while Tommy is surrounded by muddy mixtures of yellow and green.
05:18It's a stylistic visual clash between a rational robot and a temperamental teen.
05:23I'm afraid you were just a child so in need of a loving family
05:27that you created this familial delusion,
05:31all based on a chapter in a book you read once,
05:34about two dead heroes.
05:36Stop! Just stop!
05:38Beyond the awesome color coordination, though,
05:40is a conversation about what it really means to be alive.
05:43Honestly, Vision's existential dread feels a lot like Amazo's dread in Justice League Unlimited.
05:49These past months, I have amassed so much knowledge,
05:52and yet I remain confused, empty.
05:57What am I evolving into?
05:59What is my purpose?
06:00I must know!
06:01Tell me!
06:02Though it started out bumpy,
06:04Vision and Tommy's talk was a thought-provoking one in the end.
06:07Number 6. Vision's Radical Reboot
06:10Did you know you could fix Vision the same way you could fix your smartphone?
06:14That's right.
06:14All you have to do is turn this synthezoid off and on again.
06:17Okay, it is a little more complicated, but that is the gist.
06:20In order to repair Vision, the other AIs manually shut him off.
06:32This temporarily kills him, but death is more of a speed bump for Vision.
06:37Speaking of speed,
06:38Tommy revives him by vibrating his hands so fast he jumpstarts Vision back to life.
06:49The way he's submerged in the water and how he rises out from it draw clear parallels to a baptism.
06:55In a way, that is what this is.
06:57Not just a fancy software reboot to squash some lingering computer bugs,
07:01but a spiritual rebirth.
07:02I didn't...
07:03I didn't...
07:04Yes, you didn't.
07:06I was strangely human.
07:09My life flushed before my eyes, I see.
07:12What did you see?
07:15Hope.
07:17A four-letter word.
07:20Number 5.
07:21The Power of Code
07:22We mentioned Vision's reboot earlier,
07:24but sadly it also came with some baggage in the form of the evil Butcher Bird Killer,
07:29who managed to stow away in Vision's mind.
07:31She nearly possessed Vision,
07:33and the sight of that gave off some serious cybernetic Scarlet Witch vibes.
07:37Fortunately for us,
07:39Edith turned into a priest.
07:41No, seriously.
07:41She performed a digital exorcism on the Butcher Bird Killer
07:44in an epic scene-stealer of a sequence.
07:47Oh, clever duck.
07:50I break thee from thy loop with batch command and function.
07:53I sever thine process with backslash body in all targeted nodes.
07:58Leave me be.
07:59When you and your dollhouse of artificial playthings will be safe.
08:04The mind space was turned into a supernatural terror,
08:06but at the same time,
08:07you had Edith and Ultron doing their best exorcist audition.
08:11A little goofy, sure,
08:12but also instantly iconic.
08:14No more, don't threaten me.
08:16In the name of function and command.
08:18The power of code compels you!
08:20Edith was already a fun character,
08:22but the opening to episode 4, titled Malware,
08:25cemented her as an MVP of the series.
08:28Number 4. Synth Hunting
08:29As attention shifts toward finding the Butcher Bird Killer,
08:33Vision and Tommy essentially take on the roles of synth hunters.
08:36It's meant to be just a cool term,
08:38but their new role also has exciting parallels
08:40to another popular sci-fi franchise, Blade Runner.
08:43Get out of the way!
08:53Think about it.
08:54Their task of tracking down the Butcher Bird Killer
08:57is similar to Rick Deckard's job of finding replicants.
09:00Vision and Tommy aren't trying to kill any synths, sure,
09:03but the duo has to stop her from causing more harm.
09:05Guess we've got work to do.
09:07It's just too cute.
09:08He thinks he's going to be your little sidekick
09:10whilst you go synth hunting.
09:13Blade Runner also tackled themes of what it means to be human,
09:16and even suggested that Rick himself was a replicant,
09:19mirroring Vision's own self-identity dilemma.
09:21Vision Quest definitely isn't the MCU's version of Blade Runner,
09:25but the show's treading some similar ground.
09:27He's locking this out.
09:32Number 3.
09:33Coat of Arms
09:34Lisa was absent from Episode 3,
09:36but she more than made up for it during her Episode 4 screen time.
09:39The con artist reconvened with Tommy and Vision
09:42and proved to be the difference maker for them
09:44when they all had to sneak into a tech gala.
09:46Okay, I just need a good destruction.
09:50Leave the rest to me.
09:54Side note, but Vision repeatedly embarrassing Tommy
09:57in front of Lisa is hilarious.
09:58Dude is a top-tier third wheel.
10:01Good to meet you, Dad.
10:03Oh, Vision, actually, and I'm happy you're here.
10:07But not as happy as Thomas,
10:08whose pheromone levels have spiked 47% since you first arrived.
10:12Anyway, after Lisa steals some key cards for them all,
10:15Tommy cheekily jokes about a coat of arms.
10:18Only you'd have a coat of arms.
10:20I can never have too many.
10:22That particular choice of words
10:24is a direct reference to Lisa's alter ego from the comics.
10:27She goes by the name coat of arms,
10:29and through a magical coat,
10:31she's given additional arms that she uses in combat.
10:34Hey, comics can get wild.
10:36Number 2.
10:37Ultron is Mephisto confirmed?
10:39Remember those wild theories about Mephisto?
10:42Every week, the most random side character
10:44was secretly the devil, according to the internet.
10:47It was a strange time,
10:48but Ultron might have actually been Mephisto all along.
10:50All right, settle down.
10:52That's a joke.
10:53But Ultron actually is treated as an allegory for the devil in episode 4.
10:56So in that way, to you, Ultron is a fallen angel.
11:00It's a reflection of us,
11:01of our ability to be both good and bad.
11:04And as for me, well...
11:08I am what I am.
11:10Him going rogue and fighting the Avengers
11:12is similar to Lucifer's fall from grace.
11:15At the gala, when Katarina Wells is talking,
11:17she also reiterates this idea.
11:19For every dangerous Ultron that exists,
11:23there exists the promise of every Vision.
11:27The best of us.
11:28Besides this and the news broadcasts
11:31talking about Ultron's attack on Sokovia,
11:33the big bad robots also presented
11:35as the devil on Vision's shoulder.
11:37Ultron isn't actually Mephisto,
11:39but the devil's symbolism is there.
11:40And it reminds us that he is still one rotten apple.
11:44You remain unbearably naive.
11:48You brought these art-ish queens to life.
11:52Number 1.
11:53There's a new robot in charge now.
11:55Ultron wouldn't be a devil without also making a bargain.
11:58When the Butcher Bird killer attacks the gala
12:00and is revealed to be Josephine Carrington,
12:02a.k.a. Jocasta,
12:03she wrecks Vision up.
12:05In fact, he's so messed up
12:07that he lets Ultron take control.
12:08You're flailing like a father
12:11who's afraid he'll lose his son.
12:12I'm not.
12:15Give me the wheel.
12:19I'll get us out of here alive.
12:21As Ultron returns to the real world,
12:23he quickly steps back into the role of a supervillain.
12:25But by taking charge,
12:27he also shines new light on how the mind space works.
12:30While not entirely the same,
12:32Vision's situation is arguably similar
12:34to dissociative identity disorder.
12:36The A.I.s are like different alters,
12:38and now Ultron has stepped into the role of the primary one.
12:42As you can expect,
12:43that means he is piloting Vision's body now,
12:46and that spells bad news for everyone.
12:49I had strings,
12:51but now I'm free.
