Instead of just reacting to the headlines, we have to look at the structural machinery beneath them.

In tonight’s episode of Around the Table with the AOTR, Bev and I unpack how rigid fraternal systems cut men down to their knees emotionally, why true victim advocacy requires zero tolerance for horizontal hostility, and how we stop doing the patriarchy's work for it in our own communities.🎙️🖤

00:00What does that emotional stunting actually do to a person's capacity for empathy and
00:04healthy power?
00:05Yeah, that's a great thing to look at because emotional intelligence, you know, a lot of
00:11people don't really understand emotional intelligence and what it does for a person.
00:16And there's just this idea that, you know, well, of course I have emotional intelligence.
00:21I have emotions, but you really have to understand those emotions.
00:25And if you don't understand your own emotions, it's hard to have empathy for another individual
00:30because you don't get why someone would be doing something like that.
00:36And when you're not allowed to express emotions, like most young men and boys are told, you
00:42know, boys don't cry.
00:43You know, you have to be a strong man, you know, you know, grow a pair of balls, you know,
00:49all
00:49of this stuff.
00:49Right.
00:50And it's just not healthy.
00:51Right.
00:52It creates a culture where vulnerability is framed as weakness and dominance becomes
00:57the only tool for control.
00:59When men aren't taught to process fear, shame, or grief, fraternal PAC culture teaches them
01:04to compartmentalize harm and protect the institution at all costs.
