๐ THE RIVER WAS IN FLOOD. PORUS WAS WAITING. ALEXANDER CROSSED ANYWAY.
In 326 BCE, Alexander the Great faced King Porus across the Hydaspes River in what is now Pakistan. Porus guarded the river with soldiers and war elephants, making a direct crossing difficult.
Ancient accounts describe Alexander using diversionary movements before leading a force upstream and crossing under cover of darkness. Once his troops reached the opposite bank, the confrontation developed into the Battle of the Hydaspes.
Alexander won the battle, but the opposing army presented a serious challenge. King Porus was later retained as a ruler under Alexander's authority, according to the ancient accounts.
This cinematic 3D CGI reconstruction explores the river crossing, the deception, and the battlefield that followed.
