00:01A federal judge ordered U.S. President Donald Trump to sit for a deposition by the 11th of
00:07December in his multi-billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC. If Trump fails to do so,
00:14he could face sanctions, including the possible dismissal of the lawsuit.
00:18A deposition is a legal procedure where Trump is required to answer questions under oath before
00:24the trial begins. An attorney representing the BBC said Trump had initially agreed to be deposed
00:30earlier in October, but he cancelled. Trump had said he had done so due to a matter of national
00:36importance. However, the president was then seen campaigning in Georgia that day.
00:42Trump filed a lawsuit against the British broadcaster in December of 2025,
00:47accusing the BBC of defamation because of a documentary they produced and aired.
00:52The BBC admitted to editing together parts of one of Trump's speeches,
00:57making it appear as if he had encouraged violence at the U.S. Capitol.
01:02The broadcaster apologised and two senior executives resigned, but the BBC denied defamation.
