00:00I think this might be, you know, a lot of the time I've gone into Friday and I'm like, I
00:04don't know, like that, like last Friday, I felt like if you were coming to us to pump you up
00:12about the Browns and Ravens, what you got was trying to set the expectations at a proper place.
00:19And I feel like this is one we can pump our chest a little bit with and say, I wholeheartedly
00:24expect a win on Sunday and I am expecting some semblance of a step forward for the offense.
00:29Is that a scary trap that you're putting yourself into though, even though we're not off the trap game thing,
00:34not off the trap game thing, but the idea, it's funny, I like in going over games, we've been favored
00:39in this year.
00:40This is the only one that Vegas has us so far to this point, actually being the favorite by the
00:44time we get to kickoff.
00:46No, I just think it kind of goes back to the enjoy it conversation we had earlier off some of
00:51the Nathan audio from the morning boys today.
00:54It's just like part of enjoying it is in a moment where you're finally favorited in a game, you should
01:01walk a little taller, right?
01:03Like I understand that when you face the Steelers on the road in a week, you're going to be the
01:08dog and that's fine.
01:09Especially when you're going to the Pittsburgh, you're going to be the underdog.
01:12The Ravens game, you were the underdog.
01:14The Panthers game, you're the underdog.
01:16This is what, the second time you've been the favorite all season long?
01:20No, what I just said is you haven't been the favorite.
01:23Jets game?
01:24Oh no, you're right, they're a one and a half point dog, thank you.
01:26You're welcome.
01:26Thank you for reminding me.
01:27You're welcome for that.
01:27So, yeah, like walk a little taller, enjoy this one.
01:31Act like the favorite.
01:32Well, and act like you're playing the Titans.
01:34It's okay.
01:35That's kind of what made it nice so much, you know, when we were just talking to Quincy there,
01:40because it was like his whole mentality was, this is a shutout game.
01:44Like that, you want to talk about walking tall, presenting this as if this is a shutout game,
01:47I don't think you can walk any taller.
01:49Now, Nathan Zegura, I mentioned he was on with the Morning Boys earlier today.
01:54Obviously, we talked about his enjoy this message.
01:56He also had a conversation about the offense and progress going forward.
02:02We need more consistency on offense, and I think it starts with the ability to control
02:06the line of scrimmage, both in the run and the pass game, and for Deshaun to be comfortable.
02:09I think that he has been better, certainly, than we've seen, but you want him to just be
02:13able to rip it like he does it seemingly at the end of the game for 60 minutes.
02:16And so, that's where I have optimism, is that we are 4-2.
02:20There's no question that we have not played our best football on offense.
02:24There's no question in my mind we have not played our best football on offense.
02:27So, when that comes, if we can keep playing well on defense, I think you have a team that
02:32has a chance to be a contender in your division.
02:34And now you're about to go on a three-game road trip that is going to really kind of test
02:37the mettle of this football team.
02:39And I think it's really important that you go and you start by taking care of business
02:42against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday.
02:44Yeah, there becomes this kind of, you know, carousel of stink that happens when the pass
02:50game is inconsistent and, you know, from moment to moment, you're not sure what to expect.
02:55And then the run game is inconsistent and you're not sure what to expect, a five-yard gain or
03:00a, you know, three-yard loss.
03:02And then the offensive line is inconsistent.
03:04And you just kind of never get off the carousel.
03:07I happen to agree with Nathan that, uh, that quite frankly, their best offensive football
03:13is ahead of them.
03:15I think what's interesting is normally I would say, I would agree with Nathan at the offensive
03:19line, just solidifies if they just keep it together, pull it together.
03:23I think that's the perfect way for them.
03:26That takes pressure off to Sean.
03:28The Sean can then take pressure off the run game.
03:31And then the circle of the carousel of stink turns into the carousel of, I don't know,
03:35fun offensive football.
03:37I just think it might have to go a different way.
03:40I think it might have to be, to Sean elevates this offense and that takes pressure off the
03:45offensive line because I, this offensive line just is too inconsistent to expect just one
03:50of these days.
03:51It's just going to like that.
03:52I think if it, I think it will get better, it's just going to take time.
03:55Yeah.
03:55And it's just not, it's not taking massive leaps forwards.
03:57Uh, and that's, I think one of the differences there there, there's just a lot of different
04:00ways that this offense needs to be better and can be better.
04:03I find, I will get it as encouraging that you can have the 28th scoring offense in the
04:08NFL and be four and two, because as Nathan points out the room to grow side of this,
04:12like that room to grow is really fun.
04:14If this defense can be this good, you don't need perfect on the offense.
04:18You really don't.
04:19You don't need to Sean to be the greatest quarterback you've ever seen.
04:22And there were stretches that throughout this year, where I think people questioned what
04:25type of Deshaun you would need.
04:26Now, you know, definitively you just need him to be all right.
04:30Yeah.
04:31And I think, I think continuing, I really do think if Deshaun is close to the guy he
04:35was against the Steelers and I'm talking out of the totality, cause I know there was some
04:40inconsistency there.
04:41If that's about the better version of Deshaun, maybe not the best, but the better version
04:46of Deshaun you can get.
04:47If you get that on Sunday, you're going to win this game.
04:49And I think it will be the comfortable win that people want.
04:51I mean, that was his best performance.
04:52Uh, and so like that's, you know, I'm always very curious to find out where exactly Deshaun,
04:57why like when this whole thing settles and we have, I don't know, five more weeks, six
05:02more weeks, are we going to have a Deshaun that like in that Steelers game has one of
05:06the best second quarters you could possibly play.
05:08And then also turns it on for the fourth quarter, or are we going to have the Deshaun we've
05:12been seeing more times than not where it's three quarters of what the hell is going on.
05:16And then a fourth quarter that is awesome.
05:17Like, I, I don't know where we, I don't know where the dust settles on this for Deshaun.
05:21I'm just hoping it's more of the Steelers one than the other one.
05:23Yeah.
05:24And it, I do think there's dangers in overanalyzing individual games.
05:29Um, we certainly are seeing trends with, with Deshaun, but like the Tampa Bay game, he was
05:34good half of that game and it was the second half, you know, like I, I feel like we've
05:39and not you or me, but I do think the general conversation is he only shows up in the fourth
05:44quarter.
05:45That's not entirely the case.
05:47Like he has had games where he is.
05:49Oh, yep.
05:49This, he disappeared in the third quarter.
05:51I think I, so the, the stat that Daniel Oiofusi had that went around for the majority of the
05:56week.
05:56I mean, in the first three quarters, his rank is 32 out of 33 quarterbacks as far as QBR.
06:01And then in the fourth quarter, he's ninth.
06:03And so I, that stays with people.
06:04Like when you see those numbers, that stays with people.
06:06Certainly understand it.
06:07But I, I, you know, I think this idea that any quarterback is going to be fantastic for
06:11four quarters.
06:12It's not really even how like my homes operates and Josh Allen operates.
06:16No, I've been telling you for a while though.
06:18What I'm, what I'm looking for is just the lows to not be as well, which, and I think this
06:22game represents that opportunity.
06:24Like if, if you hold onto the ball too long, if you aren't taking shots or taking the wrong
06:29shots, throwing, you know, what was it?
06:31Turnover worthy plays, TWPs, come on.
06:35Hey, um, if you do those things, well, this will be more of what you saw against the jets.
06:40That'll be more of what you saw against the Ravens.
06:43But if you go ahead and are getting that ball out quickly, and again, I think this offense
06:46is so predicated on not just getting the ball out quickly, but getting the ball out to your
06:51best playmakers.
06:52That is Denzel and stride.
06:54That is Casey at any point on the, the, the Dylan Gabriel, assuming that he plays like get
06:59those guys, the ball is quickly and even if that's closer to the line of scrimmage and
07:03just let them make plays.
07:04Cause what I think has happened the last two weeks is yes, guys are getting touches, but
07:09they're just, they're, they're not getting like quality looks at the football to then
07:13try and turn uphill or, or make big plays.
07:15All right.
07:16Is this the game that we start to see Deshaun, you know, he's a couple of times this year,
07:20Munkin has made a point of emphasis of letting Deshaun, speaking of the Steelers game, throw
07:24it, throw it deep early.
07:26I haven't done that the past couple of weeks.
07:28Is this the game now?
07:28Because again, this defense is not particularly tough in Tennessee.
07:31It isn't.
07:31We've talked a lot about it already.
07:33It's just not a very good football team.
07:34Is this the game where you try to maybe, maybe let Deshaun flex a little bit, maybe, maybe
07:39see if you can get back to stretching the field vertically instead of whatever it's been
07:42the past couple of weeks.
07:43Well, it's tough because this will be a chicken or egg thing.
07:46Like you need sustainable drives early.
07:48And, and, and part of that is avoiding the big disaster play.
07:53So on one hand, it's like, Hey, if you got Denzel over the middle on a 25 yard pass, go
07:59for it.
07:59Right.
08:00On the other hand, you want to see that, that bird spread its wings.
08:02Yeah.
08:03Well, but I just mean like, you got to avoid the big turnover because at some point they got
08:07to say that, like the one thing that we just have not talked about enough is how bad this
08:12team has been holistically in the first quarter, I mean, getting outscored in the first six
08:16games, 44 to six.
08:18Yeah.
08:18That, that six is doing a lot of talking on not scoring.
08:21Yeah.
08:2144 points in one quarter through six games is an insane amount of points.
08:25But like, again, if like, if you're munking though, what's your approach this weekend?
08:28If we, we know it's an easier team, but obviously wins come at a premium.
08:31Are you taking a couple opportunities in this game to see if the Deshaun from earlier on in the
08:35season and what I think is the most successful version of Deshaun is the one that will exist
08:40for the rest of the year?
08:41Or have you, have you clipped his wings and decided, I just don't turn the ball over and
08:46we're going to, we're going to keep the, we're going to keep everything within a 15, 20 yard
08:50radius.
08:50And you're not going to have those explosives that they were bragging about three weeks
08:53ago.
08:53I would be dialing up a shot on the first drive.
08:56I don't know if that's the first play, which is always fun when they do that.
09:00Cause then if you go, you know, 75 yards, that's bad.
09:02So we enjoy that.
09:04Or I don't know if you get into a rhythm and maybe once you get your first, first down,
09:08maybe then you go ahead and take it.
09:10If you get it to second and manageable and second manageable, you take the shot.
09:14But yeah, on that first drive, if you have had any modicum of success, I want to see you
09:20take a big swing.
09:21Yeah.
09:21I mean, this is the game.
09:22This is like, you're, you're on the Autobahn to go 200 miles per hour.
09:25Let's see what you can do.
09:26Let's see, let's see how fast this car can drive.
09:28Or just go 75.
09:29I feel like you've been going 25 on the Autobahn.
09:32So you got to do something higher.
09:33If people are passing you is the point here.
09:35Just drive faster than you've driven in America.
09:38And if it means a turnover happens, I'm open.
09:40This is the game I'm willing to allow it.
09:42Obviously it's not preferred, but like I'm willing to allow it.
09:45If that means you're going to stretch the field vertically and we're going to see if
09:48we can get some, some of that magic from a few weeks to go back in play.
09:51Cause the last two weeks, it just has not existed.
09:532-1-6-4-7-4-0-9-2 at Nick Wilson says at Jay Peterlin, are you expecting a
09:58quality performance
09:59from Deshaun Watson on Sunday and who or what is the key to improving the Browns improving
10:05on offense?
10:06I'll go back to it.
10:07I, 99% of the time I say it's got to start up front.
10:11I just think they're, they're stuck in this carousel of stink.
10:15I think it might have to be Deshaun making a few of those big throws and just getting that
10:20confidence going and cause I think that's really at the heart of some of the struggles.
10:25I do think that they are aware of how poorly they've played.
10:29I think that's where some of the, the self-inflicted stuff comes in of maybe forcing it a little
10:34bit.
10:34And I think you need, you need the guy with the ball in his hand to go ahead and turn
10:38a couple plays your way and just take that pressure off.
10:42And hopefully that can breed confidence.
10:44Well, I think, I think Deshaun was smart, but I also think the, the coaching staff, they put
10:47together that limiting turnovers, it was going to be their big MO.
10:51And even though he's had a lot of TWPs, a lot of turnover worthy plays, like at least
10:55limiting the ones that you can control the best you can is going to be key for Deshaun.
11:00And so like they, I, they've really, they've leaned into it the past couple of weeks.
11:04I want to see him open it up a little bit more.
11:06Yeah.
11:06I want to see him go for it.
11:07Yeah.
11:07Cause you think it's on Deshaun.
11:08You agree.
11:09Like, I don't know, it should be on Deshaun, but it's, it's probably, it's probably going to
11:13be with the way this is going.
11:14At some point, if you want to, if you want to actually take this team to another level,
11:17and we keep talking about getting this team a little bit further, a little bit further,
11:20you're going to have to be better than a 28th scoring offense in the NFL.
11:24The way to do that is making those big plays happen.
11:27You, you threw out a question in the pre-show that is kind of stuck around and I just looked
11:31down and I, it was, do you, do you want Deshaun to succeed?
11:36Are you just tolerating him?
11:38Has he become a quarterback that Browns fans want to succeed?
11:41Are they just willing to tolerate?
11:42Right.
11:42And, uh, I think, I don't think it's as simple as a yes or no, meaning like choose one side.
11:49I think it's a choose your own adventure for each individual fan.
11:52Like I want Deshaun to play well because Deshaun is the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.
11:57So I'm probably in the toleration category.
11:59I do think because they're four and two, I do think there are people who have maybe flipped
12:04and said, no, I want Deshaun to succeed.
12:06I think there's a lot of people that have, because I think they realize your happiness
12:09week in week out is largely dependent on whether or not Deshaun Watson could play football right now.
12:13I mean, I can't remember the, the caller's name that they called earlier in the show.
12:17Oh, it was, uh, was it Fred, Freddie, Fred, we had a Fred and, uh, and Fred had said,
12:24Fred, I realized what I did there.
12:25That's on me guys.
12:26Um, we went through like seven different versions of Fred and Frederico, Rico.
12:30Yeah.
12:30Yeah.
12:30All that stuff.
12:31I think I called Fred bird at one point.
12:32I'm not sure.
12:32The Cardinals mascot or cheese is what we called him.
12:35Very memorable.
12:36Fred, Fred Monsky.
12:37That was a different, I was waiting on that one.
12:39And then, uh, we called back one.
12:41Fred is actually what you call Nathan Zaguro.
12:43That is true.
12:43Mon Fred.
12:44Yeah.
12:44Mon Fred and only Mon, only Mon Fred.
12:46No, no other names.
12:47That sounds so much like that.
12:48Can't think of anything else.
12:49Yeah.
12:49But, uh, I do think like he had asked, you know, Oh, well, if he plays well, do you got
12:55to sign him?
12:56And it's like, man, I'm just, I'm, I'm in the toleration mode.
12:59I'm just trying to build up like the nice things I say about Deshaun.
13:03And he, and again, he's fulfilling his end of this by his fourth quarter stuff, but I'm
13:08not, I'm not ready to start thinking about paying him just quite yet.
13:12Even if I understand the value of that later, I mean, it's all not great for sports talk
13:15radio, but the reality is, is we're just in a massive holding pattern when it comes to a
13:19lot of this, a lot of this, I, if you made me bet, I'm still betting Deshaun doesn't
13:24end up getting a, an extension or a reworked contract, but it's a big holding pattern for
13:29a lot of this.
