00:01Serbia's student list has declared victory in parliamentary elections, ending 14 years of power for long-time leader Aleksandr Vucic.
00:10Brazil's president Luís Inácio Lula da Silva pulled off a dramatic comeback as he clinched a re-election victory over
00:17opponent Flavio Bolsonaro.
00:20At a large rally in Orleans, the far-right frontrunner Marine Le Pen called for a rebirth of France and
00:25promised to restore rule of law after another weekend of protests across the country.
00:42Brazil's student list declared victory in parliamentary elections on Sunday, ending 14 years of power for long-time leader Aleksandr
00:50Vucic.
00:51In a brief statement to the nation, Vucic conceded defeat and announced that student list won between 135 and 140
01:00seats in parliament, with his party set to receive 105.
01:05The victory comes after nearly two years of student-led anti-government protests.
01:10A host of student list candidates are experts from fields including academia and the arts, with little political experience, who
01:17built a platform centered on a pledge to fight corruption.
01:20The students have won, and with them the hope that Serbia can be a country of the right, freedom and
01:27freedom.
01:29Let this night be the beginning of a new meeting, a meeting that will not be able to divide by
01:34winners and opponents.
01:36Almost immediately, crowds flooded the streets of the capital Belgrade and other Serbian cities in an outburst of euphoric celebration.
01:45Voters cast ballots in huge numbers on Sunday, with the country recording its highest parliamentary election turnout in more than
01:51three decades.
01:53Domestic and international observers were monitoring the vote, with students mobilizing large numbers of volunteers to oversee the process.
02:02Vucic, who had close ties with Russia and denounced the student movement as a foreign-led attempt to unseat him,
02:08led with virtually absolute power for 14 years.
02:17Brazil's president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, pulled off a dramatic comeback on Sunday as he clinched a re-election
02:24victory over opponent Flávio Bolsonaro.
02:27According to official results, he won 51.8% of the votes, to 48.2% for Bolsonaro, with Lula
02:35pulling around 4.4 million more votes.
02:38I want to say to you that I have a great pride, first, because I am the only president of
02:51the republic, a metalúrgico, a sindicato universitário, elected four times, democratically to be able to win.
03:03The 81-year-old leftist defied projections to win an unprecedented fourth term, staving off a conservative wave that has
03:11seen numerous South American countries shift right, backed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
03:17Bolsonaro quickly refused to concede defeat and asked for the election results to be annulled, after an evening of chaos
03:24at some polling places that followed a last-minute decision to extend voting by two hours.
03:29And what I have to say is that it is impossible, it is impossible to recognize the state of elections
03:35in the context of how these things have happened.
03:38We are going to use our policy to ask for the annulling of these elections.
03:47Flavio Bolsonaro is the son of former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27-year jail term
03:54for attempting a coup after his loss to Lula in the country's last election in 2022.
04:01After a first-round defeat, the left swung into action with massive rallies, declaring a never-again Bolsonaro and revamped
04:08their social media strategy.
04:11No candidate who lost the first round has gone on to win the second in Brazil since 1989, the first
04:17direct election after the end of the country's military dictatorship.
04:26A rebirth for France, that is what Marine Le Pen promised as she unveiled the broad outlines of her presidential
04:32platform before thousands of supporters this Sunday in Orleans.
04:54The national rally candidate was introduced by party president Jordan Bardella, who is positioning himself to become Marine Le Pen's
05:02prime minister in the event of a victory.
05:15At the start of her speech, a commotion was observed in one of the stands.
05:19Later, the Union of Jewish Students of France stated that they had held up a sign in reference to Mediapart's
05:26revelations about anti-Semitic writings attributed to Jordan Bardella.
05:31The rally drew 8,500 supporters according to organizers.
05:39The future belongs to us, those were the last words of Marine Le Pen.
05:39I am here because I vote Marine Le Pen.
05:44It's a candidate that I want to be our president for a long time.
05:50Because for me, the country is very, very, very bad today.
05:53And I think it's the only one who can raise the country.
05:55In any case, it's the only party who hasn't tried yet.
06:00So we try.
06:01The future belongs to us.
06:03Those were the last words of Marine Le Pen's speech at the end of this day of Congress of the
06:11Rassemblement National launching the presidential campaign of Marine Le Pen.
06:16For sure, the 8,500 people said to be gathered here are absolutely convinced.
06:25And the master word was Renaissance, rebirth, renewal.
06:30And the recipes for that, that she described alongside Jordan Bardella, was basically toughening, increasing security, toughening immigration control, being
06:44stricter on crime, especially crime committed by foreign people, as they said.
06:57UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said Britain should have an honest discussion about possibly restoring the European Union's free
07:04movement rules.
07:05This country forward with positivity.
07:07He told British media that immigration has changed since Brexit and that people previously often came to Britain for a
07:13few years before returning home, meaning the so-called revolving door was not working anymore.
07:19Immigration was one of the main issues in the 2016 Brexit referendum when Britain's voted to leave the EU.
07:26Burnham has committed to his predecessor Keir Starmer's election-winning manifesto, which ruled out free movement with the EU, as
07:34well as single market membership or a customs union.
07:37Any major change could therefore wait until after the next general election, expected in 2029.
07:44Burnham said he could not see himself recommending that Britain join the Euro or the Schengen area.
07:50He is due to meet EU leaders in Brussels on 20th of November to discuss closer ties.
07:56Reform UK leader Nigel Farage called his comments a total betrayal of Brexit Britain.
08:06Israel has said that all land crossings in the occupied West Bank will close on Tuesday, when the country holds
08:13its legislative elections.
08:15The Israeli military also said Palestinian workers would be barred from entering parts of the West Bank from Sunday to
08:21Monday, with some exceptions.
08:23The move comes after two Israeli soldiers were killed by Palestinian gunmen in Hebron earlier this week.
08:30Israeli forces have since carried out searches, detained people and demolished buildings in the area.
08:39Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that more than 200 families had been displaced from Hebron over three days, with around
08:462,500 people removed from their homes.
08:49Israel's military said civilians were allowed to leave through designated screening points and that no one was forced to evacuate.
09:01Meanwhile, thousands protested against the Israeli government in Tel Aviv on Saturday, ahead of the election.
09:10The rally was organized by a group representing families of victims and hostages taken during the Hamas-led attacks of
09:17October 7th, 2023.
09:27Would you let a humanoid robot into your home to do the cleaning?
09:30In San Francisco that now costs around 26 euros an hour.
09:35American start-up Tower Robotics has developed a humanoid cleaner designed to tackle the same everyday chores a person would.
09:42It's a humanoid, so it can do basically everything a human can do.
09:46It can vacuum clean, it can mop the floor, it can wipe kitchen counters, it can dust off some shelves.
09:57Tower Robotics launched a service about a month ago, more than 50 homes have already been cleaned, and there is
10:03now a waiting list for people wanting to try it.
10:07It's exciting, the fact that it stumbles a little bit almost makes it endearing.
10:13It's a little bit like watching a child.
10:14And I think that's kind of like how it's entering society, it's not about expecting it to be completely perfect,
10:20but the fact that it can climb back up after it falls or like pick something up that drops.
10:24It's like the error correction that kind of makes it like seamless and kind of like in my home.
10:30But the robot isn't working alone yet.
10:32A human operator controls it remotely, seeing the home through its cameras as it carries out each task.
10:41Tower Robotics says its robot still cannot match the speed or ability of a human cleaner.
10:47But for some customers, taking a little longer is worth it if the robot handles the jobs they would rather
10:52avoid.
10:54Like I don't want to clean the toilet, like I'm willing to wait a little bit more and read a
10:58book or do some work.
10:59So I'm very excited, it's like a glimpse of the future.
11:02For now, that glimpse of the future comes in one-hour slots.
11:06Tower Robotics says it hopes to offer longer cleaning sessions as the service develops.
11:11And cleaning is only the beginning of its ambitions.
11:15The company eventually wants its humanoid robots to help with some repairs and maintenance and even elderly care.
