05:14Because of television here, it's normally, of course, a one-hour time limit.
05:18But because of TV, there's our judges that have a great deal resting on their judgment.
05:27There's Jason Hervey of the Wonder Years, and there's a man, and this Sunday has not been going like James
05:33J. Dillon wants it.
05:34A lot of people would say that's where he deserves to be, behind bars.
05:37Of course, I wouldn't say anything like that.
05:39But I know James J. Dillon really has an eye on the N.W.A. Board of Directors meetings that
05:46are going on this week,
05:47reviewing the incident that took place just yesterday, right here on the Super Station, concerning Dusty Rhodes.
05:53And we could have a ruling on that as early as next Saturday, right here on the Super Station.
05:58Well, ladies and gentlemen, here it is.
06:00We've waited for it.
06:01All the talking is over.
06:03The styling and profiling has ended.
06:08One thing Sting has done, Jim, and he, as you take a look at the beautiful Patty Mullin, Jason Hervey,
06:16you know, and that is not back down from Ric Flair and his screams.
06:22You can tell there are a lot of people around here with their face painted up.
06:26Sting has really become a folk hero in many people's eyes.
06:31Nice kip up for our 270-pounder, Tony.
06:36And he and Flair, as Tommy Young gets rid of some of the debris, he and Flair have had some
06:43of the greatest matches we've ever seen.
06:45There are no strangers to each other.
06:49And this one is in front of a nationwide audience.
06:53Ric Flair still in the apex of his career.
06:55The Stinger is rapidly approaching that superstar's status.
07:00And if he can rack up a victory right here, no doubt, that will definitely put him over the hook.
07:06Because he will then be the one and only heavyweight champion of the world.
07:10Come on, big man!
07:12Flair trying a little intimidation right there on Sting.
07:15You can hear him.

07:43Flair very cautious against Sting.
07:46Flair has, even though he has a lot of confidence, you can tell the way Flair talks, has a lot
07:51of respect for Sting.
07:52It's going to be interesting to see the pacing in this match.
07:55Flair is one that can certainly dictate the pace in a wrestling match.
08:00His championship on the line, you've got to think that he's going to dictate the pace here.
08:05And I don't think that this will be too...
08:07Flair is a strong, strong man.
08:09But the Stinger, I've got to believe, will have the edge in the tail of the tape as far as
08:15the strength is concerned in this one.
08:17And Flair knows it.
08:18But what also Sting has to realize, if Flair gets in this situation...
08:25If he gets in this situation, Flair will have a trick up his sleeve.
08:30Like, right there.
08:34Didn't face it.
08:35Now Stinger walked right out of the corner.
08:37He took Flair's best shot.
08:39And the champion, great dropkick by the Stinger, who was really up on the lights that time.
08:44And the heavyweight champion of the world is regrouping on the outside of the ring.
08:51Tavion encouraging the champion to get back in.
09:01Flair thinking, taking his time, perhaps attempting to break the concentration of the Stinger.
09:08He has certainly stopped the momentum that Sting was trying to build by leaving the ring and going to the
09:14outside.
09:15Much like a basketball team, like Villanova tried to calm down the Oklahoma Senators yesterday.

09:22It didn't work.
09:23Perhaps it won't work here with the Stinger as well.
09:25Tavion headlocked the champion with Sting on the other end of that.

09:31Then reverse will go behind the hemlock.

11:32You got to think he's really bearing down and thinking on this one.
11:41Sting holding on.
11:42We announced earlier if this match would end before this program is over.

11:56And a good knockdown by Sting.
11:58Goes right to the side headlock.
11:59You know, wrestling so much like other sports, based on momentum.
12:03And I would think because his two close friends, Barry Wyndham and Lex Luger,
12:07winning the World Tag Team battle just minutes before,
12:10would give Sting a lot of momentum coming in.
12:12Exactly.
12:12A lot of momentum.
12:13And certainly the horseman dressing room a few moments ago was not a happy sight.
12:18That's right.
12:18And Flair just left there.
12:19So we wonder how much that would affect his concentration in this match.
12:23I don't want to turn anybody off.
12:24But Flair, he chopped Sting so hard while I go in the chest that it,
12:29but Sting has a small laceration on his pectoral muscle
12:33from that impact of that tremendous chop of Rick Flair.
12:37To the other side.
12:39Sting knocks him down one more time.
12:41Over the top of Flair he goes.
12:42Flair tried to hip-toss.
12:44Sting reversed it.
12:45And Sting came up with it.
12:46Goes right under Flair again.
12:48And now to a side headlock.
12:50A two-coup.
12:51Almost got him.
12:53Almost got him sleeping right there.
12:54Yes, he did.
12:55The Stinger went right for the pin there.
12:57And he is controlling the action here.
13:00Side headlock.
13:01Now the Stinger is, again, controlling the pace here.
13:05But Flair, the superb veteran.
13:08As I said, I really think he's unparalleled.
13:11And he's certainly at an advantage.
13:13There's his helper.
13:14His, you know, his advisor,
13:16who's going to have a heck of a time giving anybody any advice
13:19about 30 or 40 feet up in the air.
13:22Flair, and as much as anything else,
13:24his attention diverted.
13:28Because James J. Dillon is a master,
13:30as he's coaching Flair on right there,
13:32of getting the referee's attention.
13:34And Sting goes out as well as anybody else.
13:38Still holding on.
13:39Got a two-coup right there.
13:40Flair trying the hair,
13:41but Tommy Young quickly to break it up.
13:43Flair's got his hands in his tights.
13:46Referee with a two-coup here.
13:49Flair will not, he's not above.
13:52Taking any shortcut necessary
13:54to retain the championship of the world.
13:58That's a tough, tough job for Tommy Young
14:00because when a man rolls over
14:02and his shoulders are at the mat,
14:03your prime responsibility is to look at the shoulders.
14:06And not at the tights.
14:08That's right.
14:08That's what they're trained to do.
14:10Back both men trying to rise to a base.
14:13Sting has done so.
14:14Flair with a side headlock firmly secured
14:18around the head of the heavyweight champion of the world.
14:22And the Stinger goes for the ride.
14:23Football tackle.
14:24Down goes Flair.
14:26Oh, great move.
14:28Flair thought he was going to obviously do something else.
14:31He thought he had invaded him,
14:32but Sting went right down on top of him
14:34with a headlock.
14:35Sting has not been reluctant to take the first hold.
14:38When Flair is down, Sting will go get him.
14:41A lot of people have let Flair get up.
14:43And that's been a mistake.
14:44But that's one thing Sting has not done here in this match.
14:47You know, you'd have to think with Sting's size advantage
14:50and strength advantage
14:51that Flair, when he does get on the offense,
14:53is going to want Sting to be off his feet
14:56wrestling on the mat.
14:57And Flair is a tremendous mat wrestler.
14:59And the Stinger, on the other hand,
15:01is using this headlock.
15:02He's not going to win the match with a headlock.
15:04But what he's doing, as strong as he is,
15:06he can take an elementary maneuver like the headlock
15:09and with his great strength,
15:11turn it into a very punishing maneuver.
15:13All right, right in the neutral corner
15:15right in front of us here.
15:17Sting in a vulnerable position
15:18because this is where Flair is so tough.
15:20Sting back there.
15:21Flair goes right to the midsection
15:23and crossed him.
15:24Sting!
15:26Straddles Flair.
15:27Looks over the fans.
15:29Live here in Greensboro.
15:33And thought better of him.
15:34But Flair get in the up.
15:36He blocked it.
15:37And caught him.
15:38With a big right hand.
15:39One more time.
15:41Flair back to the other neutral corner.
15:42Sting throws him out with a hip toss.
15:45And Flair, too smart for that.
15:49But those blows by Sting
15:51took its toll on Flair.
15:54Flair moved out of the way very quickly.
15:56But the Nature Boy
15:57has sustained a great deal of punishment.
15:59And it's time now for both these athletes.
16:01Even with J.J.
16:03Dillon's encouragement,
16:04there's no way that Flair can even hear him.
16:06Above this tremendous crowd here in Greensboro.
16:09And the Stinger
16:09hops right back in the ring.
16:11That, two things,
16:13was a smart move
16:14and a big break for Sting
16:16that he was able to land on his feet.
16:18You get Flair outside,
16:20he's troubled.
16:21He didn't hit him well ago
16:22when he had this position.
16:23But as J.J.
16:24Dillon looks on,
16:25the Stinger
16:26is hammering those right hands
16:28at the head of the champion of the world.
16:31Right to the midsection again.
16:35Side headlock.
16:37Sting takes him down.
16:39Nice,
16:39authoritative takedown
16:41by the Stinger.
16:41Once again,
16:42with those massive arms.
16:44It's great upper body strength
16:45as our judges.
16:46There's Patty Mullen
16:47looking very intently
16:48at this action.
16:50I'm sure she's used to seeing some action.
16:53But this is real action.
16:55This is for the heavyweight championship
16:56for the world.
17:02The Stinger's got the side headlocked.
17:04All the action we need
17:05is right there in the ring.
17:07And Ric Flair
17:07in this match again
17:08has been on the defensive
17:11and reacting to Sting's maneuvers
17:13more than it's been on the offense.
17:16Still holding out of the trucks now.
17:19Side headlocked.
17:21And Tommy Young
17:22trying to get over to see it
17:23but Flair,
17:25but cagey better than he is,
17:27would not allow it.
17:29That's got to be very annoying
17:30to Sting
17:32to get turned from his advantage
17:34onto his shoulders
17:36knowing it's going to be
17:37probably broken by the referee.
17:47So we're past the 10 minute mark
17:49of this 45 minute television time limit
17:51for the world heavyweight title.
17:54Sting and Flair
17:55and you know,
17:56the judges here at ringside,
17:57this one's got to be
17:58awfully tough to call.
18:00There you see them.
18:01Well, they're very intense over here.
18:02The judges, no doubt,
18:03this match has been
18:04very closely contested
18:05and we have had
18:07very few near falls.
18:09So they're going to have to go right now
18:10with where the momentum is
18:11and I think at this point in time
18:13we can say that the Stinger
18:14has the advantage, Tony.
18:16Well, we talked about Sting
18:17going right after Flair.
18:20That was the great equalizer.
18:22That really caught it.
18:23Sting has been able to absorb
18:24a lot of blows
18:25but he didn't absorb that one.
18:26No, he couldn't.
18:28Flair caught him flush
18:29with that blow right to the ribs
18:30and that massive chop.
18:32Flair's chops
18:34are legendary in this sport.
18:38Right to the sternum area.
18:41And Sting returns.
18:42He returns again.
18:44He kicks him.
18:45A second time.
18:47Make it three
18:48and now to the ropes.
18:50Up high.
18:51What strength
18:52this young man has
18:54from Venice Beach.

18:57has just slammed Flair

19:01And Flair is hurting for certain

19:28is going to put

19:31of the Nature Boy.
19:34An advantage that
19:35Sting has here
19:36as he cinches up
19:37one more time.
19:38He has wrestled
19:39Flair before
19:41and when you do that
19:42you can only learn
19:44more about the champion.
19:45It's not like
19:45it was his first time
19:46against Flair.
19:50How long can he
19:51hold this bear hug?
19:52Flair
19:54this has really
19:54got to be excruciating
19:56on his lower back.
19:58And let's see
19:59if Sting will
20:00move away
20:01from his headlock
20:02that he was using
20:02as his primary
20:03offensive weapon
20:04and go to
20:05moves that's going
20:06to work on the
20:07lower back.
20:08And it is amazing
20:09that the Scorpion

20:10also affects
20:11the lower back
20:11because it's
20:12in a Boston
20:13Crab-like position.
20:14That's a good point.
20:15It really does.
20:16So Sting
20:17really having
20:18the champ
20:19and you're right
20:20you know you said
20:21the momentum
20:22has to be
20:23with Sting right now
20:24and if they needed
20:25to call it
20:26the judges
20:26needed to call it
20:27then it wouldn't
20:28go to Sting.
20:30But Flair
20:30not finished yet.
20:32One thing about

20:33and I've seen it
20:33over the years
20:34he can take punishment
20:36better than anybody
20:37will.
20:37He's very resilient.
20:39There's no doubt

20:41to the ropes
