00:00My boy is in the building, man.
00:01My boy is in the building.
00:03You better believe it.
00:04Lil Duval is here.
00:06What's up, mate?
00:07And we talking Camp Duval.
00:08You better believe it.
00:09Congratulations.
00:10Thank you, but I'm kind of mad that you ain't been out to Camp Duval.
00:13I know, and we talked about it.
00:15You was the first person I called, man.
00:17I'm coming.
00:18I said, dog, you coming?
00:19It's like, I'm coming and I'm going to bring you a boat out there.
00:21I still got the boat for you.
00:23That was a year and a half ago.
00:24I'm coming.
00:25That was a year and a half ago.
00:26Man, these folks always got something for me to do.
00:28Everybody who's been, except you, bro.
00:30And I'm seeing what you're doing, too, man.
00:32Rapping on the waterfall.
00:33Crazy.
00:34Yeah, man.
00:34More than rapping.
00:35You know what I'm saying?
00:35I'm just showcasing talent.
00:37You know what I'm saying?
00:37Yes, because I saw the hero of the band was like first.
00:40Yeah.
00:41Quail.
00:41Shout out to Quail.
00:42He's a great musician to play the guitar.
00:44The guitar player.
00:45I saw him.
00:45You know what I'm saying?
00:46I try to, I don't, because people try to pigeonhole it into one thing, but it's everything.
00:50Not just the waterfall.
00:52I mean, Camp Duval as a whole.
00:53It's a community all in one.
00:55I don't like to say it's one thing because it's not.
00:58Because it can be anything.
00:59It's just a creative space where we can create a lot of stuff.
01:02It's real estate.
01:04It's growing people.
01:05It's for our community.
01:06You know what I'm saying?
01:07It's real estate.
01:08But the movie is a whole total thing.
01:11Totally different thing.
01:12That's what we're talking about today.
01:13Uh-huh.
01:13A few years ago, Camp Duval did something that was very smart that a lot of people are doing
01:19right now.
01:21A lot of us are not as creative and are not as open-minded when it comes to the real
01:26estate
01:26plays.
01:27We're looking at the real estate plays that everybody else make.
01:32Camp Duval is a very unique property.
01:35I got a few homeboys who got properties like this in Alabama, in Georgia, in Mississippi.
01:41My homeboy, Coach in Auburn, he got one.
01:44He has like 430 acres with three lakes on it.
01:47That's hard.
01:47But Camp Duval is special to me because watching your vision and watching everything that you're
01:54doing with it, because you don't even live there on a day-to-day basis.
01:56That's not like your primary residence.
01:58It's like an idea for an investment that you can turn into a creative space, but at the
02:05same time, it's like a place you can go and just get away from everything.
02:10Exactly.
02:10It's a place of peace.
02:12You know what I'm saying?
02:12It's a place of God and an easier way to say it.
02:16You know what I'm saying?
02:16When you come there, the only thing on your mind is peace and being creative.
02:22And for me, to you, as a brother, I like Camp Duval better than I like that plane.
02:28Why?
02:30I just like the land better than I like the plane.
02:33You like the land instead of the air?
02:35We're not going to get into all the little details.
02:37But we need to understand that we need more of us in there.
02:41That's the idea that we are what we see.
02:43So when we see more people that's of us doing it, that makes us want to do it.
02:46And by me doing that, they created a space that would make other people want to do it.
02:50And I see more people getting into that stuff.
02:52So it's worked good for our whole community.
02:54Oh, it's definitely big.
02:55Like, you probably don't know this.
02:57Jonathan Strickland is my blood nephew.
03:00He's probably one of the youngest pilots in the history of the United States.
03:03He went to work for United Airlines when he was 18 years old.
03:06Oh, that's hard.
03:07Trained himself.
03:08Remember the kid from the airport in Compton?
03:10Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:10That's my blood nephew.
03:11He taught himself how to be a pilot at 13 years old.
03:13You see, we need to have more stories like that.
03:16His story's crazy, but he's an introvert.
03:17Yeah.
03:18He don't ever talk.
03:18He's been on 106 Apart before on BET back when he first.
03:22Because he said he had like six world records in aviation.
03:26Oh, that's hard.
03:27Yeah, but to watch y'all do it and then for you to buy your own plane.
03:31Yeah, man.
03:32It's like, I like.
03:33We just got to see more of us doing that.
03:35And that's what I try to do.
03:35I try to be like, I mean.
03:38But you ain't no DEI hire?
03:41I will.
03:41I mean, I hire anybody that's going to do the job at this point because it's hard to
03:45find good work.
03:46I'm talking about on the plane, though.
03:47You know, they say you got to be a DEI hire.
03:50Yeah, I hire black pilots.
03:51You know what I'm saying?
03:52Are you a DEI hire?
03:53No, I ain't a DEI hire.
03:54No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
03:56I ain't a DEI hire.
03:57But I will hire DEI pilots.
03:58I hire black pilots.
04:00Shout out to all my black pilots.
04:01I'm a woman black pilot.
04:03Camp Duval.
04:04Laura, shout out Laura.
04:05Go ahead.
04:06We got a big week coming up, the 29th.
04:08We got a big event coming up.
04:10And then on the 30th, it's going to be the big day for everybody.
04:14That's the day for everybody that keeps asking me, like, man, when can I see it online?
04:19You can see it online the day after we do the screening in Atlanta, Terror Boulevard.
04:24I mean, Terror Theater.
04:25We're going to show it there.
04:26Then the next day, you can see it everywhere on Apple, Apple, on Apple, what else?
04:33Prime, everything.
04:36You can see it everywhere.
04:37Just make sure you watch it October 30th on Camp Duval.
04:41Camp Duval.
04:42Now, talk to me about the whole storyline.
04:45The storyline is just putting me and my comedian friends.
04:49You know, I got J-Ski, Erica Dutchess.
04:51Shout out Erica Dutchess.
04:52I got Nard Ross.
04:54I got Moneybag Mafia.
04:55I got Nav Green.
04:57I got all of them.
04:58They all came over to Camp Duval.
04:59We practicing on jokes and practicing on how to be creative and coming up with skits and stuff like that.
05:05In the midst of that, hell break loose.
05:09That's what it's about.
05:10You know, it get dark.
05:11When it get dark, in the daytime, Camp Duval is a place of peace.
05:14At nighttime, ain't no telling what's going to happen.
05:17And that's what the movie is about.
05:18Man, my home is so dope, bro.
05:20Like, on so many levels, just watching you from the beginning develop this whole movement and this, everything that you've
05:29done for the culture.
05:30Yeah, man.
05:30Appreciate it.
05:31And just watching the whole thing, like, it was like, from the dirt, from the grind.
05:36Like, a lot of people didn't believe, but it's like, you understood that it's not about you believing.
05:41It's about me believing and understanding my vision and my purpose and just to watch you do it and how
05:48you represent Duval, but at the same time you represent ATL from the comedy shows to the music to social
05:56media.
05:58It's like, you imply it's got to be in the running for a Grammy for social media.
06:05Well, for me, it's bigger than social media.
06:07It's about people.
06:08You know what I'm saying?
06:09That's what it's all.
06:09Always.
06:10You know, that's what it's all about, and that's why I think it shows with what I do.
06:15You know what I'm saying?
06:15My actions speak louder than my words.
06:16My words might get misconstrued, but my actions show exactly the type of person I am, you know?
06:22Of course.
06:23So that's what I move by my actions.
06:24My actions show, and my actions show is bigger than me.
06:27I bring people along with me with anything I do.
06:30And it ain't just started.
06:31I've been doing it from day one.
06:33I've been doing this for 27 years now, and from day one, I always had somebody with me.
06:37Whenever I came up, they came up with me.
06:39So I just do it more and more every time I go.
06:42And the bigger I get, the more people I can help.
06:45Exactly.
06:47And it's not about who can be the biggest or who's going to be the biggest.
06:49And I learn from people like you.
06:50You know what I'm saying?
06:51You've been putting people on from day one.
06:53So that's the same thing I do with this waterfall.
06:55It's a platform that, just like you said before, if you had a station in Dallas, you would have turned
07:01them all the way up.
07:02So that's the mindset I have when I do this.
07:04When I see people I think talented, I'm going to give them a platform to turn them all the way
07:07up as much as I can, you know?
07:09And I don't want nothing from it.
07:10Just like you.
07:11Nothing.
07:12I ain't never seen you ask for nothing back.
07:14You ain't never asked for nothing back from me.
07:15So I know you don't be asking for nothing back.
07:17And that's the same thing I do.
07:18So it's just the same thing.
07:20You got to watch this movie.
07:22You got to check it out like he just told you.
07:24It's the people that he love and care about and rock with and work with coming together, creating something that
07:33now you can see come to the big screen.
07:35That come to your TV.
07:36That come to your computer.
07:37Come to your phone.
07:38You can watch it on all these different mediums.
07:40And it's a good movie, too.
07:42I don't want y'all to just watch it because you support me.
07:45I promise you it's a good movie.
07:46I wouldn't even put it.
07:47AMC wouldn't have put it in theaters if they didn't think it was a decent movie.
07:50It's a funny movie.
07:51Everybody that watched it, they thought it was funny.
07:53That's why we did the screenings in more than one city.
07:55We did it in Jacksonville.
07:57We did it in Tampa.
07:57We did it in Birmingham.
07:59And we're doing them here.
08:00So we did all the screens to prove that it's not just a movie that's for you to support because
08:04I'm black or just because you f*** with Duval.
08:07It's a good movie.
08:08So watch the movie, and I promise you you're going to enjoy it.
08:12But watch the movie even if you mess with Duval.
08:15Yeah, I mean.
08:15Watch the movie if you mess with Duval.
08:17Watch the movie if you're a Duval hater.
08:21Watch it and complain.
08:22I don't care.
08:22Watch it.
08:22Watch the movie and critique the movie.
08:24Yeah, do whatever.
08:25Watch the movie and send a message to them in DM.
08:28Yeah.
08:28You know what I'm saying?
08:29Tell me you want to be in the next movie.
08:30Yeah.
08:31You never know.
08:31Because you might be in the next movie if I feel your energy right.
08:34Or if you're a fan.
08:35That's another thing, too, about that being in the movies or anything I got going on.
08:41Let your people tell me to put you on.
08:44Put you on my waterfall or put you in the movie.
08:47Not you.
08:47Because everybody's going to keep coming up to me.
08:49Let your people tell me.
08:50They'll let me know that's the person I need to f*** with.
08:53Tyra Theater is on October 30th.
08:56October 29th.
08:57October 29th.
08:58The eve to the eve to Halloween.
09:00So come dressed up with your Halloween gear on.
09:03You never know what's going to happen with Lil Duval.
09:06The red carpet's going to start at 7 o'clock.
09:08Yep.
09:09And at Showtime, 8.30, it's a movie.
09:13Tight shit.
09:14It's a movie.
09:15Now, is this the first of many?
09:17Yes, first of many.
09:18Like, I'm just trying to do shit.
09:21Like Tyler Perry.
09:22He got like a thousand movies.
09:23So I'm trying to do the same thing.
09:25We already working on being pre-production of the next movie I'm doing.
09:30And after that, you're going to keep pumping them out as much if y'all keep supporting.
09:33So if y'all keep supporting, you're going to see a lot more.
09:35How crazy is it, though, to watch the evolution of Tyler Perry?
09:38Because the new movies, they're getting, they're like.
09:41I mean, he's just being consistent.
09:43He's proof of consistency.
09:44You keep putting stuff out over time, over time, over time.
09:47The people going to eventually have to come with it.
09:50Because shit, ain't nothing else.
09:51He got the market on lock right now.
09:53Because who else got television, movie, and everything all in lock that own everything?
09:59So if you ain't following his blueprint, you kind of ain't doing nothing, for real.
10:05And just a testament to his story, I came to Atlanta in 95.
10:09In 96, 97, I started, 96, 97, 98, I started hanging around at Pope Chevrolet on Memorial Drive.
10:19Tyler Perry was a salesperson at the dealership.
10:21For real?
10:22Yes.
10:23Was he doing the plays then?
10:26He hadn't started, he had the scripts.
10:27He would show us the scripts at the car dealership.
10:29And he'll tell y'all about it?
10:31He had the scripts, what he was about to do.
10:33Be honest, what did you say to him?
10:35What did you say when he showed you the scripts?
10:36Did you take it seriously?
10:38I took it kind of serious because I knew about the other dude.
10:41Oh.
10:42What was the other guy named him?
10:43You know who else?
10:44Hey.
10:44He was big at the time.
10:45Let me tell you a story about that.
10:46You know who daddy that was, who family that was?
10:48Who?
10:49Honeybun.
10:49Jack Thriller.
10:50Wow.
10:51That was his people's.
10:52The other guy?
10:54Yes.
10:54That's his people.
10:55That's how he came up.
10:56What's his name though?
10:57I forgot his name.
10:58I forgot they family.
10:59But because he told me the story.
11:01He's like, they used to be the man.
11:03And then Tyler Perry used to open up for them.
11:05Yep.
11:05Then over time, he started blowing up.
11:08And then at the end, by the time what's name got older, Jack Thriller got older.
11:14Shelly Garrett.
11:15I'm not sure.
11:16I don't want to say the name.
11:17I don't know exactly the name.
11:18I think it was Shelly Garrett.
11:19But he was a part of that thing.
11:20But by the time they had already blew up.
11:23And that, it's a small world.
11:24Small world.
11:25So you saw it already?
11:28He would show the scripts and stuff.
11:29Because I was cool with the managers with Steve Stoker and Alvin Spaulding at the dealership.
11:34And he was one of the salespeople.
11:35And he wasn't really one of the top salespeople.
11:38But he was just talking about his dream and what he was trying to do.
11:40And to watch it and just to understand it's like.
11:44It's a vision, man.
11:45Everybody ain't going to see your vision.
11:47But as long as you see it, as long as you stay consistent at it, it's going to work.
11:50You know what I'm saying?
11:51I'm living proof.
11:52Shit, Tyler Perry, he bigger living proof.
11:54But the guy who was the big guy on tour at the place, it was Shelly Garrett.
11:57It was Shelly Garrett.
11:58Shelly Garrett.
11:59Shelly Garrett.
12:00Shelly Garrett.
12:00Okay.
12:01He had the beauty shop and all those big plays back in the day before Tyler.
12:04But that's how it go, though, man.
12:06But it's just as simple as this.
12:08But people don't understand that that's how this, the same way y'all seeing how this,
12:11how we doing with this first movie, Camp Duval, that's how he started.
12:15So you're just seeing the beginning parts of it.
12:17So be a part of this journey with us.
12:19But the movie game is so crazy, man.
12:20To see you get into it like this, congratulations.
12:23I appreciate it, man.
12:24I mean, like I said, it's bigger than the movie.
12:26It's everything.
12:27Like, we're going to go for movies.
12:28We do series.
12:29We're going to do sketches.
12:30We're going to do maybe even podcasts.
12:32I mean, once it builds, I don't like what podcasts are now, but once it evolves into
12:37where it's going to be, then we will be doing that, too.
12:39You know what I'm saying?
12:40Yeah.
12:41So for you, Tip, Boosie, Country Wayne.
12:46Yeah.
12:46Everybody's doing it.
12:47You know what I'm saying?
12:48Desi.
12:49Yeah.
12:49And you support all of them, too.
12:50Like, you support Tip's movies and his stuff he got going on with his film and stuff.
12:55Support Desi.
12:56Support Country Wayne.
12:57Support who else doing?
12:59You know what I'm saying?
13:00Man, support all of that stuff because at one time, shoot, like Dolomite.
13:04Dolomite, everybody thought that was some but look at it now.
13:07It's classic now.
13:08You know what I'm saying?
13:08Classic, classic.
13:09So, I mean, support it, man.
13:11Support it.
13:12Because it's going to grow.
13:13It's going to grow.
13:13You know what I'm saying?
13:14And not only do you support, even if the people that's getting, when you support that movie,
13:18you're supporting the people that work for that movie.
13:20The people, the staff that work on the movie, the light man, the camera man, you know
13:25what I'm saying?
13:25The runners.
13:26A lot of checks being written.
13:27A lot of checks being run.
13:28And that's what made Atlanta Atlanta at one time, you know what I'm saying?
13:31Like, it wasn't just the artists, it was the people that worked for the art, the people
13:34that was running around Atlanta, you know what I'm saying?
13:36The people that was putting flies on the car.
13:39So, it's a whole ecosystem in this movie business that we're doing, all this film and entertainment.
13:45So, it's a Halloween movie premiere.
13:48Ain't nobody dying today.
13:51Yeah.
13:52Camp Duval.
13:53Yeah.
13:53Thursday, October 29th at the Tower Theater on Cheshire Bridge.
13:59Pull up.
13:59We got a lot of special guests.
14:00Come hang out with the boy, Lil Duval, the entire cast.
14:03Come hang out.
14:03Wear your best costume.
14:04He hanging with some cool people, too.
14:06Wear your best costume.
14:07We're going to dress up and we're going to watch the movie and have a good time and vibe
14:11decent.
14:12I'm turning up on the ones and twos.
14:14You know, I'm going to have my boy DJ MLK with me.
14:16Shout out.
14:17Shout out MLK.
14:17We're going to represent for the Humming Lil Duval.
14:19We're going to support this movie, man.
14:21When you start seeing these clips on his social media, share the links.
14:25Download the videos off of his page and post them on your page and tag him.
14:29Not just the stories.
14:31Put them on your page.
14:32Put them in your stories, too.
14:33Put them in your page.
14:34I'm going to be promoting this.
14:35Not just this week.
14:35I'm going to be promoting it for years.
14:37This is how these movies, you're going to be promoting them for years.
14:39Because this is another thing y'all have to understand, too.
14:41Movies back in the day, when they was in theaters, they just wasn't in theaters for
14:45a week.
14:46Like, Gooners was in theaters for about two, three years.
14:48Y'all do know that, right?
14:50They was.
14:50So, I mean, with this movie, y'all going to be hearing me talk about this movie,
14:53Camp Duval, for about two, three years.
14:55Maybe five years.
14:56Let me keep promoting it.
14:57So, y'all, be looking out for it.
15:01Red carpet at 7.
15:02Showtime is 8.30.
15:04Don't miss it.
