00:02every year we do a wonderful enormous christmas taste test which we start working on in around
00:11may june time and runs through until it goes live in october and we cover everything from
00:19your classic christmas dinner staples so your turkeys your roast potatoes um to all the party
00:27food you might want um and every single dessert i could possibly think of from festive party food
00:33to traditional favorites there are plenty of options to choose from when planning your seasonal
00:38menu but which products are worth trying it's definitely a funny one for us i mean i like to
00:45kind of go all out and getting um into the spirit at work i even put up a christmas tree
00:52in our taste
00:52test room um but i do find towards the end so all of our results go live in october and
01:00i i find i
01:01need a little you know maybe take the rest of october and november as a little break from christmas
01:06and then in december i can really throw myself back into it eden moore's festive sausage roll wreath
01:11scored an impressive 94 out of 100 making it the highest scoring product across all 664 entries
01:19in the good housekeeping institute's taste test it's a twist on a familiar favorite designed to make
01:26an impact on the christmas party table the results put it ahead of every other product tested across
01:32all categories i think it's really the quality of the meat and the pastry that it's um i'm for one
01:39i love a sausage roll i love um and getting a massive one to share for christmas is such a
01:45great
01:45idea for your christmas party table or maybe in the sort of betwixtmas period when you just want to
01:52lay something out for everyone it's already made and looks beautiful you just have to pop it in the
01:56oven um and yet it's filled with high quality meat a lovely amount of um festive spices um and herbs
02:05but
02:06not too overpowering that it doesn't still taste like a sausage roll for something a little more
02:11unusual waitrose's polar bear bao bun scored 92 out of 100 making them the highest scoring supermarket
02:18product in the test they're a more playful option for anyone putting together a spread for friends
02:22and family the testing also included seafood platters canapes and other party food designed for sharing
02:29i think christmas is such a good opportunity to have something fun for children and why shouldn't that
02:34be in food as well that one's a really interesting one because i have seen a different style of one
02:40every year and it feels like this year they finally kind of perfected making it into a fun little shape
02:48um those polar bears are so cute i don't know if you've seen them but if you have chance to
02:53look up
02:54a picture they are just adorable they haven't lost their texture and softness um in being made into that
03:03shape which i think is really important because um obviously it's great when something looks cute
03:09but you do actually want it to taste good too and that's what we're all about with the taste tests
03:13there were strong results for the classics too with aldi taking the top spot for its all butter mince pies
03:20scoring 86 out of 100 its mature christmas pudding also won its category with a score of 85 for something
03:28different tesco's toffee apple panettone scored 88 giving shoppers another option for the festive table
03:34i some of my favorite products are the little treats that you get throughout the festive period
03:39and one that really stood out to me was from aldi their mince pies came out on top this year

03:45think is always our most anticipated taste test they're often uh known to sell out based on our um our
03:52results finding the best festive food involves months of preparation and plenty of tasting good
03:59housekeeping institute experts and consumer testers put products through blind taste tests across 36
04:06categories more than 500 mince pies were eaten alongside 261 pigs in blankets and over 70 kilograms of
04:15turkey the aim is to find the products that deliver on taste helping shoppers decide what deserves a place
04:21on their seasonal table no one ever means to be biased but you have your favorite shops that you go
04:27to
04:27or something you like the sound of uh versus someone that you've never been to and you don't know
04:32so we avoid all of that by um giving them the products completely unlabeled and uh they give us a
04:41mixture of
04:42numerical and written feedback about each one that they try as well as us in the expert taste testing team
04:49giving our feedback as well and we take all of that data um do a little bit of analysis and
04:55that makes up
04:55what we uh how we rank our products whether it's a new party food or a twist on a festive
05:03classic there are plenty of
05:05ways to bring something fun and different to your table and sometimes finding a new favorite is all parts of
