An update on my indoor windowsill garden on the Gold Coast following a heavy downpour. In this video, we take a look at how the plants are handling the moisture, featuring the aloe vera, the jade plant in its purple car planter, a flowering succulent with star-shaped blooms, and a trailing variety. Plus, a fun surpriseโ€”a cluster of bright yellow houseplant mushrooms that sprouted overnight from the potting soil!

00:00This is my collection of kitchen windowsill pot plants and they're obviously inside most of the
00:05time but whenever the rain really sets in like it just has here on the Gold Coast, I'll pop them
00:11out on a little side balcony where they kind of get forgotten for a little while but this morning
00:16I've brought them inside again and whenever I bring them in from inside I initially just pop
00:21them on paper towel because they're often a little bit damp or a little bit grubby from leaves and
00:25whatever but anyway here they are so this is my aloe vera and it sits in this little mug and
00:31I'll
00:31often rotate which side gets the natural light so I think this side could probably do with a bit more
00:37natural light right now so I'll leave it that way. This is my car pot plant so again I'll sort
00:44of rotate
00:44which side sometimes the car's driving that way sometimes it's driving this way so I'll pop that
00:49there and then this one this one's really cool it's kind of got star shaped flowers on it and this
00:55one has also got babies growing on it on that little stem there and on the base. Now this one
01:03I went
01:04outside and I couldn't believe when I saw this one it's grown mushrooms like I love my I love when
01:14I saw
01:15that I just had I really thought that was cute. I absolutely love mushrooms when you see them in
01:19the park or in the forest and you know that's also what I love about gardening in general like even
01:26house plants they'll they'll surprise you they'll do things that will just put a smile on your face
01:31just out of the blue you know I just go out there and there's three mushrooms growing so I looked
01:37up
01:37what they are and how this has happened so basically potting mix especially if it's been made from bark or
01:43other organic matter often has fungal spores in it so when it gets a really good drenching like
01:50this has obviously from the rain that will often trigger a fruiting of the spores and thus we have
01:57mushrooms and I do obviously water this pot plant but it's the rain and I've always said this that
02:04plants seem to really respond differently to rain and so the rain has brought on these beautiful little
02:11mushrooms and now apparently they're not going to hurt this plant so I can just let them sit there
02:16fine and let them wither away and their lifespan isn't very long unfortunately so they're probably
02:22only going to hang around for a few days but importantly they're not edible they're a little
02:26bit toxic so they're not going to go in the fry pan they're just going to sit in that pot
02:31there
02:31and look lovely for a few days and then this lucky last this has kind of got spidery legs on
02:38it
02:38I really like that one as well so there is my collection of kitchen windowsill pot plants
02:44very happy after a beautiful drenching in the rain with my lovely addition of three yellow mushrooms
