The Bombay High Court has granted temporary relief to actor Imran Khan by putting the Foreigners Regional Registration Office's eviction order on hold until November 2. The actor had earlier been directed to leave India by October 28 following his participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai. The High Court intervened after Imran Khan challenged the directive. During the court hearing, the bench took note of the Additional Solicitor General's submissions and deferred the matter, keeping the eviction notice in abeyance.

00:00I'm going to get in, you know, just move on in our bulletin.
00:04We're all our panellists this evening who took the time out in joining us this evening.
00:08I want to quickly cut across to the other big story that we are tracking.
00:12And, well, it seems to be a breather for actor Imran Khan.
00:16The Bombay High Court has put the actor's eviction order on hold,
00:19giving him temporary relief from the deadline to leave India.
00:23Imran Khan had been directed to leave the country by 28th October.
00:27But with the High Court stepping in, the actor can stay in India at least until Monday,
00:31when the matter is scheduled to be heard again.
00:34The Leave India notice was issued in the backdrop of Imran Khan's participation
00:38in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai.
00:43The actor has since challenged the notice in court, questioning the action.
00:47The High Court's intervention comes just ahead of the deadline,
00:50putting on hold the immediate prospect of the actor having to leave the country.
00:54Before he was detained, on October 10th, Imran Khan had spoken exclusively to India Today.
01:00Making a case for the right to protest, the actor had stressed that everyone should have
01:04the freedom of movement, urging people to show up and stand their ground without fear.
01:10For now, Imran Khan has some breathing room.
01:12But, with the matter set to return to court on Monday, the legal battle is far from over.
01:36I believe that it is important for everyone to show up and show that we are not afraid and that
01:41there is
01:41actually no danger and no threat over here.
01:44The only threat is from all of these people attacking with sticks.
01:50All right, cutting across to Divesh Singh.
01:51Divesh, what happened in court today?
01:57Well, the petition filed by Imran Khan had come up for hearing today.
02:03As per the order of the FRRO, the FRRO had asked Imran Khan to leave the country by 28th of
02:10October,
02:10which was challenged in Bombay High Court.
02:12During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was going to be present,
02:17but due to some commitments he could not be there, ASG Anil Singh was present in court
02:22and he addressed the bench that a further date till November 2 be given.
02:26So, the bench heard ASG Anil Singh and kept the order of the FRRO in abeyance till November 2.
02:34And so, it is a relief to Imran Khan till November 2.
02:38He doesn't have to leave the country on 28th of October.
02:42He can stay in the country till November 2.
02:44And November 2, there will be a hearing again in the same matter in the petition filed
02:48by Imran Khan challenging the FRRO order.
02:51And after that, it will be decided whether the FRRO order can be executed
02:56or the court will decide to grant relief to actor Imran Khan.
03:01Thank you, Divesh, for joining us.
