Get the lowdown on Phantom Blade Zero in under a minute! We break down the combat, world-building, and overall verdict for this highly anticipated action-adventure title
Transcript
00:00Phantom Blade Zero is not a Souls-like.
00:02This needs to be the first thing that I tell you, because you need to wipe away any such
00:06preconceptions in order to fully appreciate what it is and is not doing.
00:10The intricate combat and hostile land come instead from wuxia storytelling traditions
00:14and a supernatural martial arts world.
00:16Developer S-Game is keen to celebrate what it calls a Kung Fu Punk aesthetic.
00:20As I explore the Phantom Realm, meeting new people and chopping them up, I find characters
00:24and locations that subtly fuse nature, supernatural horror, Chinese history and mythology and
00:29a hint of the modern world.
00:30If I was to give you just three pros here, then I have to celebrate the game's fantastic
00:35combat, brilliant weapon design and tightly designed world.
00:38The only downsides are its inconsistent storytelling and it's been a little buggy pre-launch.
00:43Overall, Phantom Blade Zero proves itself as one of the best action-adventures of the year.
